Technical field
This invention relates to a method and computerized system for analysing the movement of a user to increase the physical activity of a user (in articular the use of a bicycle) by moving along a pathway.
Figure imgf000002_0001
As is known, there is a strongly felt need by the population for monitoring and encouraging physical activity (in particular the use of bicycles for urban and suburban travel).
More specifically, as is known, most of the population has a particularly sedentary lifestyle: in that sense, the need is particularly felt to provide incentives for the performance of physical activity.
Medical studies have confirmed that a certain amount of physical activity to be performed daily or weekly has beneficial effects, which are extremely positive, on the health of the individuals concerned.
Moreover, the majority of the population uses cars or similar motor-driven means for short range travel (less than 2-3 km).
The need is particularly felt for methods and solutions which can reduce the environmental impact due to the use for short range transport of cars or similar motor-driven means and at the same time encourage the benefits deriving from the execution of regular physical activity. Disclosure of the invention
The aim of this invention is therefore to satisfy the above-mentioned need. More specifically, the aim of this invention is to provide a method and a computer-implemented system for analysing physical movement of a user along a pathway to encourage the physical activity of the user which satisfies the above-mentioned need.
A further aim of the invention is to provide a method and a computerized system for monitoring physical activity of a user which is particularly simple and effective.
The above-mentioned aim is achieved by a method and a computerized system according to this invention for monitoring the physical activity of a user.
The technical features of the invention, with reference to the above aims, are clearly described in the claims below and its advantages are apparent from the detailed description which follows, with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate a preferred, non-limiting example embodiment of the invention, and in which:
- Figure 1 is a schematic view of the computerized system for analysing physical movement according to this invention;
- Figures 2 to 9 illustrate some displays made available by the mobile device and relating to computerized instructions forming part of the system according to this invention. iptson of preferred emoodsments of tne invention
The invention defines a computer-implemented method for analysing physical movement of a user along a pathway PS for encouraging the user's physical activity due to the movement of the user along a pathway PS.
The method comprises the following steps: - predisposing a remote computer 2 configured for receiving and transmitting data, the remote computer 2 being provided with at least a processor;
- preparing a database 5 containing information identifying at least one user (preferably a plurality) and a credit or score associated with the user
(preferably users;
- preparing (operational) processing instructions 6 configured for being executed on a mobile device 3 of a user 4 and installing the processing instructions 6 on the mobile device 3 of a user 4;
- detecting, by executing the processing instructions 8, the position of the mobile device 3 of a user 4 at predetermined time intervals;
- performing, by performing the processing instructions 6, a processing based on a position detected at two or more different moments of the mobile device 3 so as to derive a physical movement indication of the user 4 along a pathway PS;
- transmitting the physical movement indication of the user from the mobile device 3 to the remote computer 2;
- modifying, in the database 5, the value of the credit or score associated to the user 4 on the basis (the value) of the physical movement indication transmitted from the mobile device 3,
It should be noted that the (operating) instructions 6 for processing are computerized instructions, which may be executed on the mobile device 3. It should be noted that, preferably, the (operating) instructions 6 for processing define an "APP" that is to say, they are software instructions designed to be installed on the mobile device 3.
Preferably, the mobile device 3 is a mobile phone or, alternatively, any device 3 of a mobile type equipped with an interface (not shown in the accompanying drawings) for connection to a mobile telephone network. Preferably, the mobile device 3 therefore comprises a SIM card, and is designed to allow the use of mobile telephone services (voice services, etc.). !t should be noted that the remote computer 2 comprises one or more computerized units, equipped with one or more hardware and software modules.
According to another aspect, the movement indication comprises at least a first value, representing an absence of physical movement along the pathway PS, and a second value, representing a presence of physical movement along the pathway PS,
The indication of movement can therefore comprise one or more parameters (which are able to adopt continuous or discrete values), that is, they may be a single variable or comprises a plurality of variables.
!t should be noted that the indication of movement represents the quantity of physical movement performed by the user 4 along a pathway, that is to say, the movement of the user 4 along the pathway performed using his or her own muscular force (for example, walking, running, cycling).
Therefore, by means of the instructions 6, a calculation is executed of the movement - due to the physical activity - of the user 4 along the pathway PS (by analysing the positions at different and consecutive moments in time): on the basis of this calculation an indication of the physical movement of the user 4 is derived, representing the quantity of movement performed by the user 4 (during the movement along the pathway PS). It should be noted that the indication of physical movement of the user 4, according to an embodiment, may comprise a measurement of length of the pathway PS executed by the user 4.
!n other words, on the basis of the detected positions of the user 4, by means of the operating instructions 6, an estimate of the length of the pathway executed by the user 4 during his/her movement is derived, representing the physical movement performed by the user 4.
According to another aspect, the step of modifying in the database 5 the value of the credit or score associated to the user 4 on the basis of the physical movement indication of the user transmitted by the remote computer 2 comprises a step of increasing the value of the credit or score if the physical movement indication has assumed the second value, representing an actual movement along the above-mentioned pathway PS.
Advantageously, according to this aspect, if the user 4 has performed physical movement which has determined a movement along the pathway PS, the fact of increasing a credit or score following this action encourages the user to 4 to execute further movement, that is to say, the physical activity.
Preferably, according to another aspect, in the step of predisposing a database 5 containing identification information of users 6 and a credit or score associated to the users 6, the credit is convertible into telephone utility services.
It should be noted that the identification information of the user may comprise personal data of each user, such as a mobile phone network number associated with the user.
According to this aspect, the computer-implemented method for analysing the physical movement of a user 4 along a pathway PS makes it possible to encourage the physical activity of a user 4, based on an incentive in terms of increase in telephone credit (which can be used for telephone services).
According to yet another aspect, the method comprises a step of associating a mobile network telephone number to the mobile device 3 and a step of transmitting to the remote computer 2 (preferably simultaneously with the indication of physical movement of the user) the telephone number of the mobile network.
According to this aspect, the identification information of users 6 comprises a telephone number of a mobile network.
According to this aspect, the remote computer 2 receives the information concerning the telephone number in such a way as to increase the score or credit on the telephone number selected by the user (by associating the number to the mobile device 3), updating the database 5. According to a variant, the method comprises the following steps:
- associating a telephone number of a mobile network to the mobile device 3,
- storing the association between the telephone number of the mobile network and the mobile device 3 in the database 5;
- generating an identification code of the user, storing the identification code of the user in the database 5 and transmitting the identification code to the mobile device 3;
- transmitting the identification code of the user to the remote computer 2 (preferably simultaneously with the transmitting of the indication of physical movement of the user).
When the user wants to associate a telephone number to the mobile device 3, according to the variant described above, the operations to be executed are as follows:
- entering the new telephone number into the mobile device 3;
- transmitting from the mobile device 3 to the remote computer 2 the telephone number entered;
- checking whether the telephone number entered is present in the database 5;
- if the telephone number entered is present in the database 5, sending the activation code (preferably using an SMS) to the mobile device 3.
It should be noted that, after receiving the activation code, the user enters (that is, stores) the activation code in the mobile device 3, determining the association of the preselected telephone number to the mobile device 3. In this regard, it should be noted that the mobile device 3 is equipped with a memory.
As described above, the remote computer 2 receives the information concerning the telephone number in such a way as to increase the score or credit on the telephone number selected by the user (by associating the number to the mobile device 3), updating the database 5.
Preferably, the activation code is stored in the mobile device 3, determining a permanence (until any modification or cancellation) of the association set up between the preselected telephone number and the mobile device 3.
Advantageously, but without limiting the scope of the invention, in this way the method may allow the increase of the telephone credit of the mobile device 3 used or selected.
According to another aspect, the method comprises a step for displaying the pathway PS followed by the user on a map.
The display is performed on the mobile device 3, by executing the processing instructions 6.
Advantageously, according to this aspect, the user may display directly on the mobile device 3 the pathway PS followed.
According to another aspect, the step of performing, by executing the processing instructions, a processing based on a position of the mobile device 3 at two or more different moments, so as to derive a physical movement indication of the user along the pathway PS, comprises a step of deriving, on the basis of the position at two or more different moments, at least a measurement of an average speed of the user 6 and a step of comparing the at least a derived measurement of the average speed with a predetermined first threshold value.
It should be noted that the indication of physical movement of the user derived is dependent on the outcome of the comparison (that is, the value of one or more of the parameters transmitted defining the indication of physical movement depends on the outcome of the comparison).
It should be noted that the first threshold value is a value of between 20 and 35 km/h, still more preferably between 20 and 27 km/h.
Even more preferably, the first threshold value is a value of 25 km/h.
According to this aspect, preferably, the step of comparing at least a measurement of average speed derived with a predetermined first threshold value comprises a step of checking if the measurement of derived average speed exceeds the first predetermined threshold value. According to this aspect, if the derived measurement of average speed exceeds the predetermined first threshold value, a step is included of reducing or annulling the measurement of length of the derived pathway PS by at least a portion or for the totality of the pathway PS.
According to this feature, if the average speed of the user exceeds in the section of pathway considered (example, in a km of pathway) the first threshold value, this indicates the fact that the user is probably using motor-driven means (car, motorcycle, etc.), that is to say, is moving without performing physical activity.
Consequently, according to the above-mentioned aspect, the length for at least a part of the pathway PS is reduced or annulled, in order to attribute a lower weight (or no weight at all) to the section where the average speed has exceeded the first threshold value, indicating the fact that the user has probably used motor-driven means for the movement.
According to another aspect, the indication of movement comprises a time of movement (for example, the time between the start of the movement and the end of the movement or the time for starting a predetermined functionality from the mobile device 3 side).
Thus, this aspect defines a control concerning the movement of the user, allowing identification of an abnormal condition of movement along the pathway PS.
Preferably, the above-mentioned comparison is executed on sections of predetermined length of the pathway PS (for example, every km travelled). According to another aspect, the step of performing, by following the processing instructions 6, a processing based on a position at two or more different moments of the mobile device 3 so as to derive a physical movement indication of the user along the pathway, comprises a step of deriving, on the basis of the position of the two or more different moments, at least a measurement of a maximum speed of the user 6 along the pathway PS and a step of comparing the derived at least a measurement of the maximum speed with a predetermined second threshold value. !t should be noted that the indication of physical movement of the user derived is dependent on the outcome of the comparison.
It should be noted that the second threshold value is a value greater than the first threshold value.
Preferably, the second threshold value is a value of between 30 and 55 km/h, still more preferably between 35 and 45 km/h.
Even more preferably, the first threshold value is a value of 40 km/h.
According to this aspect, preferably, the step of comparing at least a measurement of maximum speed derived with a predetermined first threshold value comprises a step of checking if the measurement of derived maximum speed exceeds the second predetermined threshold value.
It should be noted that, preferably, if the derived measurement of maximum speed exceeds the second predetermined threshold value, a step is included of reducing or annulling the measurement of length of the derived pathway PS by at least a portion or for the totality of the pathway PS.
As already mentioned with reference to the average speed, this aspect defines a control concerning the movement of the user, allowing identification of an abnormal condition of movement along the pathway PS (due, for example, to the absence of physical activity).
Preferably, this comparison is carried out on sections of predetermined length of the pathway PS (for example, each km travelled).
Preferably, if the derived measurement of maximum speed exceeds the second predetermined threshold value, there is a step of annulling the length measurement of the pathway PS derived for the portion of the pathway PS in which the condition has been detected that the derived maximum speed measurement exceeds the second predetermined threshold value.
According to another aspect, the step of performing, by following the processing instructions 6, a processing based on a position at two or more different moments of the mobile device 3 so as to derive a physical movement indication of the user along the pathway PS, comprises a step of deriving, at two or more different moments (preferably corresponding to two positions), at least an acceleration measurement of the user 6 along the pathway PS by reading a sensor (of acceleration or gyroscopic) of the mobile device 3 and a step of comparing at least a derived acceleration measurement with a predetermined third threshold value (of acceleration), the derived user physical movement indication being dependent on the outcome of the comparison.
It should be noted that the step of comparing the at least a derived acceleration with a predetermined third threshold value comprises a step of verifying if the derived acceleration measurement exceeds the third predetermined threshold value.
It should be noted that, preferably, if the derived measurement of acceleration exceeds the third predetermined threshold value, a step is included of reducing or annulling the measurement of length of the derived pathway PS by at least a portion or for the totality of the pathway PS.
As already mentioned with reference to the average and maximum speed, this aspect defines a control concerning the movement of the user, allowing identification of an abnormal condition of movement along the pathway PS (due, for example, to the absence of physical activity).
Preferably, this comparison is carried out on sections of predetermined length of the pathway PS (for example, each km travelled).
According to yet another aspect, the method comprises a step of deriving speed at different moments in time (preferably associated with each position, that is to say, a speed is derived for each position).
According to this aspect, the method comprises a step of filtering the speeds acquired.
The step of filtering the acquired speeds may comprise, according to one aspect, a filtering step executed on the basis of an acceleration signal of the mobile device 3 (the acceleration signal may be derived directly by an acceleration sensor present on the mobile device 3 or it may be calculated by means of the speed data acquired at two different moments in time). It should be noted that the filtering step allows a speed measurement to be rejected, or not, so as to substantially reduce the risk of including speed measurements in the subsequent processing which are so-called "outliers", that is, abnormal for the normal conditions of physical exercise of the user.
The aim of this aspect is to compensate for any anomalies in the derived speed measurements caused by poor quality GPS sensors (often installed in the mobile devices 3).
!t should be noted that the step of filtering the acquired speeds may also comprise a further step of performing a filtering on the basis (also, that is to say, preferably, in addition to the above-mentioned acceleration signal) of other signals, such as, for example, the signal of a gyroscope on board the mobile device 3.
According to another aspect, the step of transmitting the indication of movement of the mobile device 3 to the remote computer 2 comprises a step of transmitting the physical movement indication of the user 6 via a mobile telephone network to an interface 7 operativeiy connected to the mobile telephone network, and a step of transmitting the indication of physical movement of the user from the interface 7 to the remote computer 2.
It should therefore be noted that the interface separates the remote computer 2 from the mobile telephone network, and allows the remote computer 3 to exchange data from and to the mobile telephone network.
Preferably, the database 5 is resident inside the remote computer 2.
It should be noted that, preferably, the remote computer consists of two separate units.
!t should be noted that, preferably, the database 5 is resident in a first unit, The second unit comprises a plurality of software modules, designed to implement various services. More specifically, a first of these modules receives the data from the mobile device 3.
On the other hand, a second of these modules manages the requests from the mobile device 3 relative to the credit or score stored in the database 5, Lastly, a third module generates an activation code, to be sent to the mobile device 3, after a request coming from the mobile device 3. This aspect, relating to the activation code, has already been described above. It should be noted that, preferably, the activation code is sent through an SMS from the remote computer 2 towards the mobile device 3.
The invention also defines a computerized system for analysis of a physical movement of a user along a pathway PS, for encouraging the execution of physical activity by the user, comprising:
- a remote computer 2 configured for receiving data and for transmitting data and provided with at least a processor;
- a database 5 containing identification information relating to users and a credit or score associated to the users;
- a plurality of operating instructions 6 configured for performing on a mobile device 3 of a user, the processing instructions 6 being configured so as to actuate following operations during performing thereof:
- detecting the position of the mobile device 3 of a user at predetermined time intervals;
- performing a processing based on a position at two or more different moments so as to derive a physical movement indication of the user 6 along the pathway PS travelled by the user 6;
- transmitting the user physical movement indication 6 from the mobile device 3 to the remote computer 2, the remote computer 3 being configured for modifying the value of the credit or score associated to the user 6 based on the movement indication of transmitted by the mobile device 3.
It should be noted that, advantageously, the system 1 according to the invention makes it possible to encourage the user 6 to execute physical activity.
Preferably, according to another aspect, the operating instructions 6 are configured to provide an interface for selecting the mode of physical activity performed by the user.
More specifically, according to this aspect, the selection interface makes it possible to select two modes of physical activity: "cycling" and "walking". It should be noted that, preferably, in the "cycling" mode the indication of physical movement (transmitted by the mobile device 3 to the remote computer 3) comprises a time (relative to the use of the bicycle).
It should be noted that, preferably, according to another aspect, the operating instructions 6 are configured to provide an interface for displaying the credit or score.
More specifically, according to this aspect, the database 5 comprises (that is, it has stored) information regarding the increase of the credit or score, associated with the time during which it has occurred.
