Description

COOKING APPLIANCE WITH AN IMPROVED CONTROL PANEL
The present invention relates to a cooking appliance, in particular a domestic oven. The present invention more particularly relates to the electrical and mechanical control devices, including the control knobs, the display and the like of the cooking appliance.
Cooking appliances are commonly known. A cooking appliance, in particular an oven generally comprises a cooking chamber which is heated by radiative heat transfer and/or convective heat transfer. In general, the cooking appliance has a control panel which allows the user to perform settings and adjustments so as to operate the apparatuses, including the heaters, the fans, the illumination and the like in a predetermined way. The control panel usually comprises at least one rotatable control knob for performing the settings and the adjustments and a display for displaying any related information. In general, the cooking appliance comprises, in addition the control knobs and the display, a plurality of electrical and mechanical control devices which are disposed into its interior for controlling the aforementioned apparatuses.
Fig. 6 to 9 shows an oven (23) which is known from the prior art. The oven (23) comprises a display holder (24) which supports a display board (25), a display (26) which is mounted onto the display board (25), a coded switch (27) and cables (28). The coded switch (27) has a switch board (29). The switch board (29) is secured by means of a bracket (30) into a recess (31) so as to prevent it from dislodging/breaking under the influence of axial forces transmitted by the shaft (32) of the coded switch (27). The oven (23) further comprises, separately from the display holder (24), a main board holder (not shown) which supports a main board (not shown) and various electrical and mechanical control devices (not shown) which are mounted onto the main board. The main board holder is usually disposed onto the side walls (33) or the upper wall (34) to prevent it from overheating. A drawback of the prior art oven (23) is that the assembly of the above mentioned components is time consuming and incurs comparatively high costs.
An objective of the present invention is to provide a cooking appliance, in particular an oven which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art in a cost effective way and which enables an improved production and assemblage.
This objective has been achieved by the cooking appliance as defined in claim 1. Further achievements have been attained by the subject-matters respectively defined in the dependent claims.
The cooking appliance of the present invention comprises a single integral board which supports a plurality of control devices including the control knobs, the display and a single holder which releasably and jointly retains the single integral board, the control knob and the display. The control knob and the display are each immediately connected to the board via corresponding holes in the single holder and in the control panel. The single holder is detachably attached onto the inner side of control panel.
With the present invention, the display board, the main board and the switch board commonly known from the prior art have been unified into a single integral board. In addition, the display board holder and the main board holder commonly known from the prior art are unified into a single holder which jointly retains the single integral board, the control knobs and the display. In the present invention, the single holder, including the single integral board, each control knob, the display and the electrical and mechanical devices on the single integral board can be assembled in a few steps onto the inner side of control panel. With the present invention, particularly by virtue of the single integral board the need for cables has been reduced as much as possible. With the present invention, the production and the assemblage of the cooking appliance have been improved and the costs have been comparatively reduced. With the present invention, particularly by virtue of the control panel, the space inside the oven which can utilized for the ventilation has been effectively increased and thus, the electrical and mechanical devices can be more effectively protected from overheating and the appliance can be safely operated. Thereby, the customer satisfaction can be increased.
In alternative embodiments, the single holder retains the single integral board and the display by means of screws and/or resilient claws.
In another embodiment, the single holder is attached onto the inner side of control panel by means of screws.
In another embodiment, the control panel is detachably attached to main body of the appliance, in particular to the upper front side thereof, through an attachments means.
In another embodiment, the control panel comprises a formed sheet metal. And the single holder is manufactured from an electrically insulative and heat resistant plastic material.
In another embodiment, the control knob has a potentiometer with a bore and a free shaft which can be penetrated into the bore for rotatably actuating the potentiometer. In this embodiment, the potentiometer is mounted onto the single integral board. And the shaft is rotatably retained by the single holder with a sufficient clearance so as to axially decouple the shaft from the potentiometer.
In another embodiment, the control knob can be selectively held at either one of a plurality of predetermined angular positions by means of a spring loaded ball mechanism. Thereby, the potentiometer can be stepwise actuated with an improved tactile feeling.
Additional advantages of the cooking appliance of the present invention will become more apparent with the detailed description of the embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
