Description

PACKAGE FOR CONTAINING AND DISPLAYING PRODUCTS
AND/OR VALUE AND LUXURY ITEMS
The present invention refers to a package for containing and displaying products and/or value and luxury items, such as perfumes, creams, alcoholic products, high-end cosmetics, high fashion accessories and/or items, jewellery and/or the like.
The object of the present invention has particular use in the paper industry and, specifically, it is intended for packages, wrappings, boxes, coated boxes, jewel boxes, cases and/or the like for containing, displaying, commercialising and selling valuable and luxury products.
As it is known, the presentation and display, as well as the commercialisation and sale of valuable and luxury products, requires equally valuable packages of high quality which are handled in every detail.
Therefore, packages of various shapes and sizes are known that can be of the simple or folding type, coated with special materials, such as special paper and/or cloth and/or any other valuable material, and/or silk- screen printed and/or planographically printed and/or provided with plastic elements which are appropriately made through thermoforming processes.
An example of a known package normally used to sell and/or display perfumes, beauty products, alcohols and/or the like, provides the presence of at least three components, that is to say: a box-shaped body; a lid; and a suitable support for the products or items to be contained and/or displayed.
Generally, the box-shaped body is made of cardboard or a similar paper-based material and is provided with a bottom from which a plurality of side walls extend perpendicularly so that a respective housing compartment is defined.
The lid is also made of cardboard or a similar paper- based material and has a covering wall from which a plurality of side walls extend to define a covering compartment capable of receiving at least the upper part of the box-shaped body inside of it.
The support, which is entirely made of plastic through a suitable thermoforming process, has a monoblock structure having one or more housing cavities to engageably receive the products to be sold and/or displayed and a plurality of support portions arranged to engage the bottom of the box-shaped body when the support is inserted inside the housing compartment thereof .
Each housing cavity, which is provided on the support, is equipped with suitable retaining protrusions that block the products and/or items rested in them by interference .
In order to visually cover most of the plastic structure of the support and at the same time allow the aesthetic decoration thereof, it is common practice to glue a decorative mask onto it, which is appropriately made of a paper valuable material. The decorative mask totally covers the support with the exception of the housing cavity, so as to allow the positioning or removal of the products and/or items to be commercialised and/or displayed. The decorative mask is thus provided, for each of the housing cavities provided on the support, with a corresponding through- opening having the same shape and configuration as the corresponding housing cavity.
Although known packages, like the one described above, allow satisfactory protection of the products and/or items contained therein and, at the same time, a pleasant presentation and display of the products and/or items to be commercialised and sold, the Applicant has found that they can be improved in various ways, mainly in relation to the overall quality of the package both in structural terms and in aesthetic terms, to the excessive presence of plastic material, to the degree of rigidity of the packages obtained, to the thickness of the box-shaped body that houses the plastic support, to the long times required to design and make such packages, to the ease and simplicity of recycling the various components, to the high costs of designing, making and commercialising such packages, as well as to the reuse of the excess thermoformed pieces of each configuration.
In particular, the Applicant has found that the excessive use of plastic material in packages for the sale of valuable and/or luxury products or items significantly spoils the image of the same, requiring the use of expensive and complicated supports made solely from cardboard that in turn have substantial problems relative to the systems for hooking and retaining the products and/or items according to the desired configurations.
It should also be considered that plastic supports are not easy to decorate and personalise at low costs, being needed to couple, through suitable glues or similar gluing substances, respective suitably decorated cardboard masks, which totally cover the plastic structure with the exception of the housing cavities that must receive the products and/or items to be held. Making and applying such decorative masks significantly increases the overall manufacturing and commercialisation costs of the aforementioned packages, making such supports difficult to recycle, since they are solidly joined to respective layers of paper material .
In addition, the use of plastic material, which per se has significant costs, also has a negative impact on the overall commercialisation costs of the packages in question.
It should also be noted that the aforementioned packages are suitably designed and made to be used in specific promotional and/or seasonal campaigns like at Christmas or Spring, thus being subject to continuous variations of configuration from one campaign to the next. The internal configuration of such packages, in other words the arrangement of the products or items to be sold and/or displayed, thus varies from one campaign to the next and changes in relation to the requirements and the desires of the producers using them. Each variation of the configuration of the packages considerably affects the overall times and costs needed to design, manufacture and commercialise the packages, as it is necessary to firstly design the new configuration to be made, and secondly to design the moulds suitable for obtaining the corresponding plastic supports. Once the moulds have been made, it is necessary to mould a sufficient number of test samples of the plastic supports, through which it is possible to check for the presence of possible imperfections in the moulds .
In the case in which the moulds have been made correctly, it is possible to move on to the large-scale production of the plastic supports needed that will then be coupled with respective decorative masks prepared beforehand. On the other hand, in the case in which there are imperfections that cannot be corrected, it is necessary to redesign and remake the moulds, repeating the production of the test samples until a positive result is obtained.
The moulds made for each promotional campaign are also closely linked to the particular configurations of the packages to be sold and/or displayed and are difficult to reuse during other promotional campaigns, since every new desired arrangement of products and/or items requires the creation of new plastic supports provided with corresponding housing cavities. Consequently, at the end of each promotional campaign the moulds made for it are normally wasted.
It should also be noted that the total lack of flexibility of use of known packages does not allow the packages to be reused from one campaign to the next, since the creation of new configurations does not allow the reuse of possible remnants of plastic supports made for previous campaigns, which must inevitably be discarded, in a similar way to the moulds.
A further drawback encountered in relation to totally plastic supports is the shape thereof. In particular, because of the physical limitations due to the moulding of the plastic supports, they tend to take up an overall substantially frusto-conical shape.
Consequently, once the plastic supports have been inserted inside the corresponding box-shaped bodies of the packages to be made, the supports move, in the visible areas, from the side walls of the box-shaped bodies, leaving visible aesthetically displeasing slits .
In order to try to avoid this drawback, it is common practice to apply corresponding decorative masks to the plastic supports, said masks protruding laterally with respect to the supports so as to internally lick the side walls of the corresponding box-shaped bodies and cover the undesired slits. However, the protruding portions of the decorative masks are somewhat structurally weak and easily damageable with negative consequences both for the corresponding plastic supports and for the respective packages.
The main purpose of the present invention is to propose a package for containing and displaying products and/or value and luxury items, such as perfumes, creams, alcoholic products, high-end cosmetics, high fashion accessories and/or items, jewellery and/or the like, capable of solving the problems encountered in the prior art.
A purpose of the present invention is to ensure a high level of quality of the packages made and/or commercialised both aesthetically and structurally.
A further purpose of the present invention is to significantly reduce the amount of plastic material used .
Another purpose of the present invention is to facilitate the recycling of the aforementioned packages .
A further purpose of the present invention is to reduce as much as possible the overall costs of designing, making and/or commercializing the packages.
Another purpose of the present invention is to reduce the times of designing and making the aforementioned packages .
Another purpose of the present invention is to avoid discarding the moulds used for making plastic components from one campaign to the next.
Another purpose of the present invention is to allow the reuse of the plastic components from one campaign to the next .

Moreover in the embodiment illustrated in figures 2 to 7, each housing seat 10 is interposable or interposed, at opposite ends of the respective engagement portion 9b, between the main portion 9a and both the auxiliary portions 9e of the support structure 9 so that the respective housing cavity 10c is, at least in part, preferably completely, aligned with the corresponding through-opening 9c of the main portion 9a of the support structure 9.
With reference to the embodiment illustrated in figures 2 to 7, the support structure 9 is provided with four support portions 9f extending in pairs and from opposite sides of each auxiliary portion 9e. Also in this case, the auxiliary portions 9e are obtained from the same structure as the respective auxiliary portions 9e folding them along corresponding folding lines which have been suitably made.
With reference to the embodiment illustrated in figures
8 to 10, the auxiliary portion 9e is completely superimposable or superimposed to the main portion 9a of the support structure 9 and has at least one through-opening 9h, preferably having the same shape as the corresponding through-opening 9c of the main portion 9a, so as to receive the body 10a of the corresponding housing seat 10.
In this case, the engagement portion 10b of each housing seat 10 is completely interposable or interposed between the main portion 9a and the auxiliary portion 9e of the support structure 9 so that the respective housing cavity 10c is, at least in part, preferably completely, aligned with the respective through-openings 9c, 9h of the main portion 9a and of the auxiliary portion 9e of the support structure 9.
With reference to the embodiment illustrated in figures
9 and 10, the support structure 9 comprises a plurality of support portions 9f, two of which extend from opposite ends of the auxiliary portion 9e, whereas the remaining support portions 9f extend from opposite areas of each opening 9h of the auxiliary portion 9e . Advantageously, all of the support portions 9f are obtained by folding structural parts of the auxiliary portion 9e.
The removable or permanent engagement of each housing seat 10 to the support structure 9 is advantageously ensured by suitable engagement means 12, visible in figures 2 to 5 and 10.
Preferably, the engagement means 12 are operatively interposable or interposed between the support structure 9 and each housing seat 10 in order to join the latter according to predetermined configurations.
With reference to the embodiment illustrated in figures 2 to 4, the engagement means 12 comprise at least one coupling protrusion 12a which protrudes, for each end of each housing seat 10, from the respective engagement portion 10b and on the side opposite to the respective housing cavity 10c. The engagement means 12 also comprise, for each coupling protrusion 12a of each provided housing seat 10, at least one respective coupling opening 12b obtained from a corresponding auxiliary portion 9e of the support structure 9.
Advantageously, each coupling protrusion 12a of each housing seat 10 engages the respective coupling opening 12b of the respective engagement portion 9e of the support structure 9, preferably by interference, so as to block the opposite ends of the engagement portion 10b of the corresponding housing seat 10 between the main portion 9a and the auxiliary portions 9e of the support structure 9.
The engagement means 12 relative to the embodiment according to figures 2 to 4 have the advantage of allowing easy and practical assembly/disassembly of the support structure 9 with the corresponding housing seats 10.
Such an embodiment is further advantageous because it does not require the use of glue.
In accordance with the embodiment illustrated in figures 9 and 10, the engagement means 12 are defined in part by the main portion 9a of the support structure 9, in part by the auxiliary portion 9e of the latter and in part by at least one gluing substance 13 (figure 10) or a similar joining substance, suitably interposed between the main portion 9a and the auxiliary portion 9e of the support structure 9 and the engagement portion 10b of each housing seat 10.
In other words, the housing seats 10 are interposed between the main portion 9a and the auxiliary portion 9e of the support structure 9 and held in such a position through gluing thereof in order to form a multi-layer or "sandwich" structure.
The package described above solves the problems encountered in the prior art and achieves important advantages.
Firstly, the package object of the present invention offers a better quality level in terms of structure and appearance than known packages provided with support made entirely of plastic.
In particular, replacing a support structure made entirely of plastic with a support structure made entirely of cardboard, with the exception of the housing seats for the products or items to be contained, allows a significant elimination of plastic from the packages that, as well as giving the packages themselves a more pleasant and valuable appearance, allows a significant reduction of the costs linked to such material. The Applicant has surprisingly noted that packages with support structures like the one described above allow a saving of plastic material, per package, of about 80%.
In addition, there are also substantial advantages in terms of speeding up the processes of designing and making the packages, since the moulds to be designed, made and tested are dedicated only to the production of the housing seats of the support structures that must in part reproduce the shape of products and/or items that remain on the market for fairly long time periods, and no longer to specific support structures dedicated uniquely to respective promotional campaigns. Consequently, it is possible to reuse the moulds made previously over time and during each successive promotional campaign, since such moulds are not constrained to the configuration of the support structure, but to the product and/or to the item to be inserted in the packages. The configuration of the support structures and, therefore, of the packages to be made is easily and quickly obtained by designing and making support structures made of cardboard adapted to engageably receive the thermoformed housing seats.
In addition, it is equally advantageous, both in purely economic terms and in strictly practical terms, to be able to make moulds dedicated to the maximum dimensions of the housing seats to be made and if necessary to have a series of internal thicknesses in order to allow the production of housing seats of smaller dimensions than the housing seats of maximum dimensions.
It should also be considered that it is possible, as well as to reuse the moulds made for the previous campaigns, also to recover and reuse the excess housing seats left over from previous promotions, since they are not bound by the support structures.
In the case in which it is necessary to vary the configuration of a package as a function of the new promotional campaign to be carried out, it is sufficient to design and make new cardboard support structures capable of engageably receiving the housing seats to be made or already made.
Of course, this allows a significant reduction of the overall costs of designing, making, commercializing and selling the packages provided with modular support structures, since it is no longer necessary to design and make batteries of moulds for each promotional campaign but it is sufficient to make the support structures to be assembled with the housing seats for the products and/or items to be sold.
In this sense, the production of the thermoformed seat can be increased because it is not linked to the seasonal nature of the package with a consequent lowering of the relative unit cost.
In addition, the packages according to the present invention can be easily dismounted allowing quick and simple separation of the plastic elements from the cardboard elements, with significant advantages in terms of recycling.
It should also be noted that the cardboard support structure, the main portion of which extends transversally to the side walls of the base body when it is inserted in the housing cavity of the latter, constitutes a stiffening structure capable of substantially stiffening the base body, and consequently the package, giving to the latter a high degree of solidity that is perceived as a characteristic of quality by the purchaser and/or end customer. In other words, the support structure acts as a reinforcing ribbing supporting the side walls of the base body of the package from the inside. Since the support structure gives rigidity to the base body and to the package, it is possible to make the side walls of the latter significantly thinner, also reducing the overall use of cardboard further contributing to the reduction of the commercialisation costs thereof.
It should also be noted that the support structure can be made so that the main portion ends flush with the side walls of the box-shaped body, avoiding that undesired slits be defined between the support structures made entirely of plastic and the side walls of the box-shaped bodies of known packages.
In accordance with what has been described, it is also possible to prepare automated processes for making and producing the cardboard support structures and the plastic housing seats, further speeding up the production process of the aforementioned packages.
