Description

DESCRI PTI ON
AN Al R CONDI Tl ONI NG SYSTEM FOR ARMOURED VEHI CLES
Technical Field of the I nvention
The invention subject to the application is related to an air conditioning system that has been developed for armoured vehicles which do not allow the inlet of fresh air from the external environment, which enables to clean the air sucked in from the vehicles by filtering.
Known State of the Art of the I nvention (Prior Art)
This invention is related to an air conditioning system which enables to clean the air by filtering said air that has been sucked in from within the vehicle, developed for armoured vehicles which do not allow the inlet of fresh air from the external environment.
Nowadays polyurethane (PU) sponge filters are widely used as pre-filters in armoured vehicle air conditioning systems. Said filters having a porous polyurethane structure that can be washed, are cut as standard plates or are cut according to desired measurements; and are used as pre-filtering materials in panel filters. They are preferred in air filtration systems in armoured vehicles as they are more durable against hydrolysis compared to polyester sponge filters and are less susceptible to light. However PU filters having a porous structure used in cleaning the air sucked in from the interior of the vehicle cannot sufficiently clean the air circulating inside, as it stores the dust and various particles found in the environment having larger sizes than its pore structure and as it allows the entrance of smaller dust and particles into the system. As dust accumulates on the filters, the system is clogged in a short period of time and the performance of the air conditioner is reduced. Additionally the dust and particles that have accumulated on the filter, causes smell especially during the initial operation of the air condition fans, and this negatively affects the respiration inside the vehicle.
An air conditioning system comprising an evaporator (condenser) that has been developed to reduce the problems arising from the accumulation of dust and particles on the mentioned polyurethane sponge filters is described in the invention subject to the application. By means of said evaporator, the condensation of the water vapour found inside the absorbed air that has been sucked into the air conditioning system is provided. The dust and particles in the environment are ensured to be stored by the water provided through condensation, thereby the amount of dust and particles accumulated on sponge filters are reduced. As a result an air conditioning system which operates more efficiently having water filtration characteristics is provided. Brief description of the I nvention and its Aims
The invention subject to the application is related to an air conditioning system which enables to clean the air by filtering said air that has been sucked in from within the vehicle, developed for armoured vehicles which do not allow the inlet of fresh air from the external environment
An evaporator that has been positioned vertical to the ground plane, that enables the condensation of water vapour located inside the air sucked in from within the vehicle is used in this invention, by means of the air conditioning system developed according to the present invention, dust and particles located inside the air sucked in from within the vehicle are removed from the air conditioning system as they are absorbed by the water that is produced following the condensation of water vapour. The angular positioning of the evaporator to the ground plane enables the flowing out of water that has been produced and which moves together with the dust and particles, from the evaporator, without it being accumulated inside the evaporator core. The dust and particles that are absorbed by the water is accumulated inside a water tank and following this the water located therein is removed from the air conditioning system via a water discharge pump.
• The performance loss of the air conditioning system is reduced by cleaning the air inside the vehicle, and the clogging of the polyurethane (PU) sponge filter in a short period of time is prevented,
• The maintenance and replacement periods of the PU sponge filters are extended,
• Respiratory health problems which may have occurred are reduced by means of cleaning the air inside the vehicle,
• The undesired smell that occurs especially during the initial operation of air condition fans, arising from the dust and particles accumulated on PU filters are reduced by means of the invention.

The invention subject to the application is related to an air conditioning system (1 ) which enables to clean by filtering the air from within the vehicle that has been developed for armoured vehicles which do not allow the inlet of fresh air from the external environment. The air conditioning system (1 ) illustrated generally in Figure 1 , basically comprises an evaporator (condenser) (2) , polyurethane sponge filters (3) , and water collection tank (5) , suction fans (6) and water discharge pump (7) . The evaporator (2) in the air conditioning system (1 ) has been positioned angularly to the ground plane, and the suction fans (6) are provided at the upper section of the air conditioning system (1 ) . The air sucked into the air conditioning system (1 ) from within the vehicle, described according to the present invention is initially filtered by polyurethane (PU) sponge filters (3) . The sponge filters (3) have a porous structure and they can be provided with different pore sizes. However the polyurethane sponge filters (3) can only filter the dust and particles in the air according to their pore sizes as said filters have a porous structure. I n other words, the PU filters (3) used in the air conditioning system (1 ) cannot completely filter the air; and they allow the entrance of dust and particles which are smaller than their pore size into the air conditioning system (1 ) and the remaining larger dust and particles are accumulated on said filters. This in turn causes the air conditioning system to be clogged, dust and particles accumulate on the filters (3) and this in turn negatively affects the operation of the air conditioning system. As a result, this is significantly important for armoured vehicles which do not allow the inlet of fresh air from the external environment and which necessitate the air sucked in via the PU filters to be filtered and discharged.
The invention subject to the application (1 ) comprises an evaporator (condenser) (2) that enables to provide the filtering of air collected therein. The evaporator eliminates the liquid evaporation temperature from the medium of the liquid having low pressure and temperature, and although it is the place where the fluid becomes gas, and it absorbs the heat from the present air during operation, thereby cooling the medium. I n other words the evaporator (2) used within the scope of the invention allows the water vapour inside the air to condense and causes water (4) to be produced. As accumulation of water produced (4) , on the evaporator (2) core is not desired, the evaporator (2) is positioned angular to the ground plane located inside the air conditioning system (1 ) subject to the invention. By this means the water (4) produced flows out over the evaporator (2) core, and the water that is provided at the lower section of the air conditioning system is allowed to travel towards to water collection tank (5) . The dust and particles inside the air conditioning system (1 ) are absorbed by the water (4) produced, and as they tend to move together inside the water, the dust and particles (4) are collected inside the water collection tank (5) . This invention comprises a water discharge pump (7) that has been placed at the lower section of the air conditioning system (1 ) in order to discharge the water (4) collected inside the water collection tank (5) . The water discharge pump (7) removes the water (4) collected inside the water collection tank (5) and the dust and particles absorbed by the water (4) from the air conditioning system (1 ) . I n this case, the air sucked into the air conditioning system (1 ) is filtered and cleaned in itself, and it is enabled for the air conditioning system (1 ) to circulate air that contains less dust and particles.
The air conditioning system (1 ) subject to the invention basically comprises the following operation steps;
• The air that is sucked in from within the vehicle into the air conditioning system (1 ) is cleaned by means of polyurethane (PU) sponge filters (3) .
· The evaporator (2) that has been positioned angularly to the ground plane enables the air to lose heat and the water vapour inside therein is condensed therefore producing water (4) .
• As the particles and dust carried by air located inside the air conditioning system (1 ) are absorbed by the water (4) that has been produced, and they have a tendency to move together, the water flows towards the water collection tank (5) via the evaporator (2) core that has been provided at an angular position together with water (4) and said water is collected inside the tank.
The water (4) and the dust and particles inside the water (4) collected inside the water collection tank (5) are removed from the air conditioning system ( 1 ) via the water discharge pump (7) .
