Definitions
- the base unit comprises a ring 102 in which magnet 103 is placed.
- Front unit 104 comprises a magnet 105 placed in insert 106 with there being a small rim 106c.
- the small rim 06c is slightly larger than the outer size of back 102 so as to further enable separation of the members.
- front and rear members 101 and 104 do not appear to comprise matching halves of a whole jewelry item and appear to merely be elements to hold jewelry items together.
- the German reference shows a jewelry item in Fig. 1 having magnets 6 and 14 attracted to each other. There is an inner rim 1 with a gap 12 with gap 12 fitting on projection 3 and inner rim fitting within receptacle 2.
- This German reference is essentially used to enable different tops to be mounted to the ring bottom so that interchangeable ring designs may be provided.
- Figs. 2a-2e are exploded perspective, front, side and rear views of one heart pendant half and the front view of the same pendant half;
- Figs. 3a-3c are front and rear views of an assembled pendant; a side sectional view through jewelry element halves of Fig. 3 include back views of the pendant halves of Fig. 3a.
- This invention provides matching jewelry pendant halves having matching silhouettes attracted and held to each other by inside magnets.
- Fig. 1 shows the front and side views of the jewelry article of Fig. 1 when assembled, Fig. 1a shows the pendant halves 10-12 separated from each other.
- FIG. 1 and 2 show the matching pendant halves with the respective lips and recesses along the outer edges or rims of the respective halves
- Fig. 3c shows a sectional view more clearly illustrating the lip 14 and recess 16 nesting arrangement.
- Lip 14 nests within recess 16 of the matching pendant halves 10 and 12 and prevents side slipping of one jewelry half with respect to the other and which are held together magnetically. Additionally, the lip and recess may have a friction fit to further enhance the halves being held together.
- Figs. 1a-1d show the outside surfaces 22 and 24 to be decorated differently, but other round pendant halves could be matched with either of the pendant halves 10 and 12.
- Figs. 2a-2e show matching heart half pendants 26 and 28 also magnetically attracted to each other. Magnets 17 are located in the center of each respective element as generally shown at 18.
- the matching heart pendant halves 26 and 28 are magnetically attracted and are prevented from sliding because of the nesting lip and recess along the outer edges of the matching heart half elements as described with reference to lip 14 and recess 16 of Fig. 3c.
- Each of the pendant halves in any of the embodiments of Figs. 1-3 has a bail 30 large enough to allow a chain or a rope to be threaded separately through the opening of either of the two bails.
- the bails are formed with or attached to the top of each of the pendant halves.
- the chain, or rope 36 (see Fig. 3c) will be threaded through both the bails of the two halves of the pendant.
- each respective pendant half are substantially similar to each other although they need not be. They must be in facing relationship with each other separated by a space permitting the user to place a finger or finger nail therebetween to separate the pendant halves.
- Figs. 1a and 2a illustrate another structural feature of this invention. Facing magnets 17 and 17 sit within facing central recesses in respective pendant halves 10 and 12. The outer surfaces of magnets 17 and 17 are flush with the surrounding flat surfaces of the matching inside surfaces 40 and 42 on the "insides" of the matching halves 10 and 12. These inside surfaces are flat including the magnets 17 and 17 and may have a flat polished finish allowing each pendant half to be a pendant by itself with the surfaces 40 and 42 having finished polished jewelry appearances. Therefore, each matching half 10 and 12 may be reversible itself when worn as a pendant half and the pendant halves 10 and 12 may be dividable to be worn by two people.
- Figs. 3a-3c have had their structural elements described above with reference to the same reference numerals describing magnets 17 and 1 1 and surrounding inside surfaces 40 and 42.
- Element 50 is a decorative stone on pendant half 12.
- the present invention is different from both Severs and the German reference insofar as the front and rear jewelry elements are of the same silhouette and appear to be the same jewelry design to match each other. Additionally, the present invention distinguishes from Fujimoto in that the recess and lip are just inside the outer perimeter, the bails are on top of the pendant half in facing and spaced relation and each pendant half has a silhouette for decorative function.
- the present invention comprises mating silhouette fronts and backs so that each half is half of an entire whole jewelry article, such as a heart, so that one could have the front and back halves of hearts or of any other design.
- the consumer has the ability to change interchangeable pendant halves so long as the silhouettes of each match so that the consumer can create her/his own front/back combination and/or wear each half as a pendant by itself because of the polished jewelry finish of the inside surfaces 40 and 42.
- the heart shaped pendant of this invention shown in Figs. 2a-2e is formed from two equally sized front and back pendant halves.
- Figs. 2d and 2e show the inside 40 of one half pendant 12 and the outside 26 of the other pendant half 10.
- Heart halves 10 and 2 are secured together by lip 1 which press fits into recess 16 to prevent accidental sliding apart of the two halves.
- the outer surface of each half can be decorated in infinite ways, with regards to surface treatment, colors, use of decorative stones, etc.
- Fig. 2e shows the letter A as the decoration and Fig. 2a shows a clean outer surface.
- This invention is to matching pendant halves with each having reversible sides.
- Each half is interchangeable for other matching silhouette halves, which allows a retailer to store many halves, but the customer can decide on which sides she/he would like to combine and purchase other matching silhouette halves to change the pendant's appearance.
- the pendant can also be worn with just one half. In this way, one can give one part of a heart/pendant to a friend.
- This new design allows a woman to give one-haif of her heart to a loved one, without compromising the beauty and integrity of a fully shaped heart.
- One aspect of the invention is to be able to either wear it as a reversible pendant, as a single pendant, or to pick two halves that correspond well and look great when connected to each other, either symbolically or aesthetically.
