Definitions
- the present invention relates to a dishwasher, in particular a domestic dishwasher with a half load function.
- a user may need to operate from time to time a domestic dishwasher even when the upper rack and the lower rack are not completely loaded with dishes. In such instances, the valuable resources including fresh water, electrical energy and detergent are unnecessarily wasted. In general, in a prior at dishwasher, most of the energy is needed for heating and circulating the wash liquor. To improve customer convenience, the dishwashers are usually provided with a half load function. Dishwashers with the half load function are commonly known. In such a dishwasher the user can choose to conduct the washing with only one of the upper rack and the lower rack, and its associated rotating spray arm.
- EP 1 726 246 A1 discloses a prior art domestic dishwasher which has the half load function.
- An objective of the present invention is to provide a dishwasher which overcomes the drawbacks of the prior art in a cost effective way and which enables and an improved energy and water use efficiency.
- the dishwasher of the present invention comprises a partition plate which is releasably mountable between the upper part of the tub and the lower part of the tub.
- the partition plate has a surface area which is slightly smaller than the horizontal cross section of the tub.
- the dishwasher of the present invention further comprises a mounting means for releasably mounting the partition plate into the tub.
- the upper pull-out rack and the upper spray means are disposed into the upper part of the tub.
- the lower pull-out rack and the lower spray means are disposed into the lower part of the tub.
- the user is enabled to adapt the tub for use in accordance the half load function.
- the washing can be confined to the upper part or the lower part of the tub which is to be mainly used in combination with the half load function.
- the partition plate prevents the water sprayed by the lower spray means from intruding into the upper part of the washing tub.
- the thermal energy of the wash liquor is prevented from being lost to the upper part of the tub, in particular to the upper sections of the tub surface and the other functional components disposed therein.
- the partition plate reflects the water sprayed by the upper spray means back into the upper part of the washing tub, but allows by virtue of the size of the partition plate, the wash liquor to drain along the surface of the tub into the sump.
- a denser environment for washing the dishes is set up in the upper part of the tub.
- the user has been enabled to flexibly wash the dishes in either of the upper pull-out rack and the lower pull-out rack when the dishwasher is not full.
- the energy and water use efficiency of the dishwasher has been improved, and thus, the washing cycle has been shortened.
- the dishwasher has been rendered more environment-friendly.
- the customer satisfaction can be increased.
- the partition plate has an additional spray means for spraying wash liquor onto the lower pull-out rack.
- the supply means also selectively supplies the additional spray means with wash liquor.
- the dishes in the lower pull-out rack can be sprinkled from above with wash liquor.
- the additional spray means of the partition plate has nozzles, and a duct for conveying the supplied wash liquor to the nozzles.
- the partition plate has a rail on each of its sides which moves along a railway formed by a plurality of rollers disposed within the tub. The user can release the partition plate for stowing outside the tub.
- the rails and the rollers form the aforementioned mounting means.
- the upper pull-out rack has also a rail on each of its sides which moves along a railway formed by a plurality of rollers.
- the rollers which engage with the rail of the partition plate from above also bear the adjacent rail of the upper pull-out rack.
- the dishwasher has a stowage compartment for the partition plate.
- the partition plate is made from a plastic material.
- the partition plate is made from PMMA (Polymethylmethacrylat).
- control unit has a plurality of modes which can be selected through the control panel.
- the washing is conducted in the entire tub, namely both in the upper part and the lower part of the tub.
- both the upper spray means and the lower spray means are utilized to spray wash liquor.
- the washing is conducted only in the upper part of the tub. In this mode only the upper spray means is utilized.
- the washing is conducted only in the lower part of the tub. In this mode either only the lower spray means or only both of the lower spray means and the additional spray means is utilized.
- the upper and the lower spray means each comprises at least one rotating spray arm.
