Abstract

The present invention describes a refreshable braille display (RBD) device. The refreshable device comprises a plurality of braille character cells, actuation means, and one or more cantilever strips. Each of the braille character cell parted into five layers, comprises a latching means to lock a tactile element in 'up' position. The actuation means secured within each of the braille character cell, comprises one or more shape memory alloy (SMA) wires for raising the one or more tactile elements. Each of the cantilever strips positioned in between the five layers of the braille character cell, and fastened with the actuation means. In another embodiment a plurality of braille character cells, each of the braille character cell being parted into two half cells.
