Abstract
The present invention relates to floating photocatalytic devices made of autoclaved cellular concrete or micro-crosslinked polymeric microfibre, such as TNT (nonwoven fabric) by way of non-limiting example, containing Fe, Nb, Zn and Ti oxides, alone or in combination, and to the uses thereof. The uses include photocatalysis, hence with in situ generation of free radicals, the hydroxyl radical (OH●) and the O2
●- and HO2
● radicals. The devices oxidise all organic materials in the water, eradicating insect larvae, including larvae of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes which transmit yellow fever, dengue or chinkungunya (Aedes aegypti), or Western Nile fever or malaria (Anopheles). The invention can be efficiently used in domestic containers and in areas where water accumulates.
