Description

A HERBICIDAL COMPOSITION COMPRISING METSULFURON-METHYL, THIFENSULFURON-METHYL AND TRIBENURON-METHYL AND THE USE THEREOF FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention concerns a herbicidal composition in form of water-dispersible granules (WDG) comprising metsulfuron-methyl, thifensulfuron-methyl and tribenuron-methyl for controlling undesired plant growth.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Undesired plant growth causes significant yield reduction. Therefore, the control of the undesired plant growth is crucial to obtain high productivity in crops and is a continual objective in the agricultural field.
Metsulfuron-methyl, thifensulfuron-methyl and tribenuron-methyl, which are triazinylsulfonylurea herbicides, are branched chain amino acid synthesis (ALS) inhibitor. They act by inhibiting biosynthesis of the essential amino acids valine and isoleucine, therefore they stops cell division of the plant and plant growth. ALS is found in plants but not in animals, therefore, triazinylsulfonylurea herbicides can provide good herbicidal activity with low use rates and low toxicity to animals.
Triazinylsulfonylurea herbicides are highly active herbicides. Similar to other agrochemicals, triazinylsulfonylurea herbicides can be formulated as concentrates in a variety of different forms, such as wettable powders (WP) and tablet (TB) . However, the dust of WP comprising triazinylsulfonylurea herbicides affects the growth of nearby crops which are sensitive to the triazinylsulfonylurea herbicides. On the other hand, WP also brings pollution problems of residual triazinylsulfonylurea herbicides contamination of the spray equipment. TB formulation of the herbicidal composition is easy to measure and use. However, TB formulation is attractive to children and pets. Compared to WP and TB, the  water-dispersible granules (WDG) are more easily measured and mixed. Because of low dust of WDG, they cause less inhalation hazard to the applicator during handling.
It has now surprisingly been found that applying a herbicidal composition in form of WDG comprising metsulfuron-methyl, thifensulfuron-methyl and tribenuron-methyl results in an unexpectedly enhanced control of the undesired plant growth.
