Description

3. The present invention relates to TURBINE WITH POPPING DOOR PANS FOR POWER GENERATION USING FLOWING WATER OR LASHING SEA WAVES, relates to improvements over the conventional water turbine.
There have been many proposals to generate electricity in the flowing water of the canals, rivers etc. or the lashing sea waves. In the conventional turbines, a large quantum of thrusting force of the moving water column or the lashing sea waves escapes the [under water] turbine and fails to register the maxi mum force. Usually the blades of an underwater turbine intended to register the thrusting force, are laterally fixed. While one blade resisting the flowing water, the opposite blade should not resist the flowing water. But in the conventional types water turbines, the opposite blade also resist the flowing water to some extent. A part quantum of the total force registered by one blade is nullified by the opposite blade by providing some resistance to the thrusting water.
These problems are overcome by the present invention which provides the opportunity to register the maximum thrusting force of the moving water column or the lashing sea waves. Jn this invention an underwater .-turbine is designed in a novel way as to register : the maximum thrusting force of the flowing water and converting the registered force in to torque.
The specialities and novelties of this invention are
1 . The popping up drag door pans are used instead of conventional turbine blades.
2. These popping up drag door pans can register maximum thrusting force of the .thrusting water of moving water columns results in maximising the torque:
3. Each set of two opposite popping up drag door pans of the turbine create max imum imbalance between the two opposite popping door pans and resulting in maximising the torque. While one popping up drag door pan with closed doors is pushed by the thrusting water colum and simultaneously the opposite popping up drag door pan with opened doors allow the water to cross over to the other side through the opened doors. Thus, the popping up drag door pan with opened doors do not resist the water and a perfect imbalance of thrusting forces in between these two opposite popping up drag door pan arises. So the maximum torque is obtained.
4. The doors of popping up drag door pan are aeiOdynamicaUy shaped aerofoils which can experience aerodynamic forces like LIFT and DRAG forces. When the water passes through the gaps in between the opened doprs the LIFT force towards the lateral side is generated. Due to this force the opposite popping lip drag door pan is moved forward. This increases the torque some more.
5. The whole apparatus is floatable and portable. If the flowing water column raises, the instrument will not dip in to the water, because of the floatability or buoyancy.
According to the invention, there is provided a TURBINE WITH POPPING DOOR PANS FOR POWER GENERATION USING FLOWING WATER OR LASHING SEA WAVES, comprising of a central axis [no.2] with which the popping up drag door pans [no.3] are attached laterally in multiples, a set of gears which transfer the force from the central axis [no.2] to the generator [no.6], a floating system that helps the whole instrument to float in the water column and a metal stand (no.1 ) which holds all the components.
There now follows a description of some particular embodiments of this invention, by way of examples only with reference to the drawings in which
The figures 1 , 2 shows the example of the vertical cross section of the assembly of a metal stand (no.1), central axis (no.2) with which the popping up drag door pans [no.3] are attached laterally in multiples, a floating system and a gear box (no.9).
The figures 3, 4, 5 shows examples of horizontal cross section of the assembly of a metal stand (no.1 ), central axis (no.2) with which the popping up drag door pans [ no.3] in various multiple numbers are attached laterally and a gear box (no.9).
The figure no. 6 is a line diagram of horizontal cross section shows the action of drag and lift forces.■.
Referring to the figures nos, 1 , 2 it can be seen the side view or the vertical cross section view and the figures nos. 3, 4, 5, 6 are horizontal cross section view of the assembly of a metal stand (no. 1 ), central axis (no.2) with which the popping up drag door pans [no.3] are attached and a gear box (no.9).
A metal stand (no. l ) with which all other components are assembled. The central axis (no.2) is the axis of the turbine. The popping up drag door pans [no.3] are attached laterally pointing outward and in plurality with the central axis (no.2). The popping up drag door pans [no.3] are attached to the central axis [no.2] at equal distances and at equal angles. These popping up drag door pans [no.3] may be in set of 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 in numbers.
Each popping up drag door pan [no.3] is comprising of one frame and the popping up drag door/s (no.4) which are attached to the frame, vertically or horizontally at the pivots (no.7),door stoppers (no.8) and door angle stoppers [no.8A]. The popping up drag door/s (no.4) are freely open able only one side of the popping up drag door pans [ no. ].
The door stopper (no.8) of the popping up drag door pans [no.3] do not allow the popping up drag door/s [no,4] to cross over to the other side of the frame. The door stopper (no.8 ) is a wire netting or some projection attached to the frame of the popping up drag door pans [no.3] or any projection at the edges by lengthwise or breath wise of the popping up drag door/s ( no.4). The popping up drag door/s [no.4] are open able only one side of the frame with the help of the door stoppers [no.8] and not able to cross over to the back side of the frame. The popping up drag door/s [no.4] of two opposite popping up drag door pans [no.3] opens towards the opposite directions.
..4.. " The door angle stopper [no.8 A] is an arrangement or projection with the frame of the popping up drag door pans [no.3] that permits the popping up drag door/s [no.4] to open only up to an angle which is less than the right angle.
When the water flows, the popping up drag door/s [no.4] of one popping up drag door pans [no.3] are forced to close by the thrusting force of the flowing water, and at the same movement, the popping up drag door/s [no.4] of the opposite popping up drag door pan [no.3] are forced to open in the opposite direction by the thrusting force of the flowing water. The popping up drag door/s [no.4] may be single or in multiple numbers in each popping up drag doo pans [no.3]. When the door/s of one popping up drag door pans [no.3] closes, simultaneously, the door/s of the opposite popping up drag door pans [no.3] opens.
Wh i le, one popping up drag door pan [no.3] with closed doors is registering the thrusting force of the flowing water by resisting the water flow and get pushed back by the water force, the opposite popping up drag door pan [no.3] with opened doors do not resists the flowing water and allows the flowing water to pass through the gaps in between the opened doors, but helps rotation of the central axis [no.2] in a positive way by creating the DRAG and LIFT forces [figure 6]. The popping up drag doors [no.4] are aerodynamically shaped aerofoi ls that experience the DRAG and LIFT forces [figure 6] when the water passes over the surface of the popping up drag door/s [no.4] of opened popping up drag door pan [no.3]. Thus both of the popping up drag door pans [no.3] transfers torque to the qentral axis (no.2) and the central axis (no.2) get rotated continuously with maximum torque.
The gear box (no.9) or a belt pulley is attached with upper end of the central axis (no.2) is meant for thp transmission of mechanical force registered by the turbine to the
' ..5.. alternator (no.6). The bearings (no.5) allows the central axis (no.2) to spin freely. The floating system [no. 10 ] is an arrangement in which buoyant material is fixed on the top of the metal stand [no. l ] and below the alternator [no.6]. Any material with high buoyancy, like vacuum tubes with larger diameter or low density plastic boards or wooden planks is suitably used. This will make the apparatus float in the water.
The device operates as follows .
When (while) the flowing water flows across the turbine, the thrusting force of the flowing or lashing water forces to close the popping up drag door/s [no.4] of one popping up drag door pan [no.3] and also forces that popping up drag door pan I no. 1 to move back.
At the same time, the thrusting force of the flowing water opens the popping up drag door/s [no.4] of the opposite popping' up drag door pan [no.3] towards the opposite direction and allows the water .to enter through that opposite popping up drag door pan [no.3] and pass to the other side through the available gaps in between the opened popping up drag door/s [no.4]. Thus the opposite side popping up drag door pan [no.3] with opened doors do not resists the water flow, but helps the rotation of the central axis [no.2] in a positive way by creating the DRAG and LIFT forces [figure 6].
These two opposite popping up drag door pans [no.3] registers an unbalanced forces and results in rotation of the central axis (no. 2) in one direction and produces torque. This torque is transferred to the alternator (no.6) through the gear box (no.9) which also meant to multiply the number of rotations of the central axis (no.2) and rotates the shaft of alternator to produce electricity.
