Definitions

  • This invention relates generally to a monitoring system and method. More specifically, although not exclusively, this invention relates to a monitoring system and method for use in connection with the parking of a vehicle.
  • US2002014361 1 discloses a system and a method for performing vehicle payment transactions.
  • the system includes a vehicle with location determining and communication components and a server with communication and transaction components.
  • the location determining component determines the location of the vehicle, which is then sent to the server and the server determines if the vehicle location corresponds to a pay location, in which case the server completes a payment transaction.
  • EP1941462 discloses a method and device for automatic payment of traffic related fees for a vehicle, such as parking fees and road taxes. Automatic payment is effected by determining the position of the vehicle to be parked using a network-based position correction system, determining the time the vehicle has been parked and completing a payment transaction using a data link between the vehicle and a server.
  • a first aspect of the invention provides a monitoring system, e.g. for determining compliance with parking rules and/or for charging for parking, the system comprising:
  • geospatial positioning means in or on or associated with or mounted or mountable to the vehicle for determining a geospatial position of the vehicle
  • an optional image capture means in or on or associated with or mounted or mountable to the vehicle for capturing image data relating to the location of the vehicle;
  • a processor operatively connected to the detection means, the geospatial positioning means, if present the optional image capture means and the memory means;
