Abstract

The invention relates to a composition for the prophylaxis or treatment of oxidative stress and to the damage, disorders and conditions resulting from oxidative stress. Said composition contains at least one quaternary benzophenanthridine alkaloid (QBA), preferably selected from the group consisting of sanguinarine, chelerythrine and salts thereof.
