- chassis service of the range transmission section of compound transmissions is a common practice because it saves time and cost relative to removing the range transmission section or the complete compound transmission from the vehicle.
- chassis service typically involves installing a number of restraining clips through an access cover located at the top of the range transmission section. Access to this opening may be difficult due to the proximity of chassis components, such as the body of the vehicle and the frame. The process also involves removal of internal fasteners and replacement with additional restraining clips. With the service support tool 100 installed, the range housing 1 la is no longer needed to support the counter shaft 47, gears 46, and the output shaft 48 during service.

Abstract
La présente invention concerne une boîte de vitesses à relais mécanique de véhicule qui comprend un logement de transmission, une section de transmission principale et une section de transmission à changement de vitesse. La section de transmission principale est pourvue d'au moins un rapport de démultiplication, est placée dans le logement de transmission et soutenue par ce dernier, est pourvue d'au moins un arbre de renvoi qui définit à l'intérieur une première cavité de réception d'outil de support de service s'étendant axialement. La section de transmission à changement de vitesse est pourvue d'au moins un rapport de démultiplication et d'au moins un arbre de renvoi qui à l'intérieur définit une seconde cavité de réception d'outil de support de service s'étendant axialement qui est coaxiale à la première cavité de réception d'outil de support de service s'étendant axialement. Les première et seconde cavités de réception d'outil de support de service s'étendant axialement sont dimensionnées de façon à recevoir un outil de support de service qui, en combinaison avec ledit au moins un arbre de renvoi de la section de transmission principale, soutient ledit au moins un arbre de renvoi de la section de transmission à changement de vitesse et des engrenages associés au cours du service.
