Description
DESCRIPTION
Combination of Olive Oil, Nigella sativa seed oil and Rosemary Oil
The present invention is an herbal pharmaceutical product obtained from the oils extracted from the defined parts of the plants of Olives (Olea europaea), Nigella sativa and Rosemary to be used in treating sinusitis and a formulation thereof. Olive oil (Olea europaea) which is present within this developed combination used to treat sinusitis, is a fruit oil which has high oxidative stabilit as it comprises a high amount of single unsaturated oleic acid, together with the antioxidant agents (phenolic compounds, tocopherol and other aromatic agents) it comprises. It has been accepted to be a functional nutrient by international medical science authorities as it has a protective effect agains some cancer types and it lowers bad cholesterol (LDL) and increases good cholesterol (HDL) thus decreasing the risk for especially heart diseases. The rich unsaturated oleic acids inside olive oil, decreases atherosclerosis and the heart attack risk that emerges in connection with atherosclerosis. Moreover olive oil, decreases stomach acids when consumed either hot or cold and provides protection against gasthritis and ulcer. It is an oil that can be best absorbed by the intestines and it is characterized in that it can regulate passage from intestines. It lowers the risk to have gallstones and helps in dissolving gallstones. It ensures the development of bones and teeth, and renewal of cells and tissues and it also has anti aging effect.
The other herb used in the combination is Nigella Sativa, and it is known as a sacred seed as it is known to be a cure to many health problems in the middle eastern countries. It comprises basic fatty acids at the rate of 58% which in turn comprises Omega 3 and Omega 6. These are essential in establishing Prostglandin El which provide protection agains chronic diseases by basancing and strengething the immune system against allergies and infections. This composition protects healthy cells from having viruses and prevents the formation of tumor. The usage of nigella sativa is generally known, and is used in order to treat headaches, nasal obstructions, toothaches and enterozoa. It has been known for centuries thatenigella sativa is used to treat liver
and digestion problems and that it stimulates the metabolism, and prevents lethargy and fatigue. Modern medicine makes use of the characteristics of this plant and its stimulating effect and enables it to be used in treating many diseases such as haemorrhoids, hepatitis, the common cold, diarhhea, coughing and tenias. Investigators, have approved the anti bacterial and antimicotic effect of Nigella Sativa and have determined that it is also beneficial in decreasing the blood sugar level which forms the basis in diabetes treatment.
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) comprised within the composition is an important medical and aromatic plant type from the Laminacae (Labiatae) family. Rosemary is used in relation with digestion, circulation problems, neuralgia, mild spasms, bloating, pain, aczema, muscle aches, ciatica, asthma, respiratory disorders, rheumatism and depression. Moreover it is also efficient against parasites. Rosemary which is used as an herbal medicine, stregnthens the memory, stimulates blood circulation and the nervous system and relieves bloating. It can be used to treat stomach aches, it has sedative effect, it can treat goute diseases and arthritis.
The accumulation of inflammation in the cavity of the bones in the face called sinuses, and accumulation of mucosa inflammation is called sinusitis. Headaches, and the feeling of nasal blockage, mild and sever pressure pain, when pressed on the areas above and below the eye are symptoms of sinusitis. Olive oil is added into the mixtures prepared for sinusitis used among the public.
In the German patent application numbered DEI 0200901 1152 the usage of a combination which comprises Rosmarinus officinalis to treat sinusitis as an antibacterial agent is described.
The tissue renewing effect of olive oil comprises within the composition, the painkilling and antibacterial effect of Nigella sativa and the painkilling effect of Rosemary oil have been known for many years.
When olive oil, nigella sativa and rosemary oil are used together, they provide antiinflammatory and antibacterial effects and a therapeutic dose can easily be reached due to their synergic effect.
The present invention aims to provide radical treatment against sinusitis by providing more than one effect, and increasing bio-availability by using all of said plant oils together instead of using them separately and getting less benefit.
The usage of olive oil, nigella sativa oil and rosemary oil separately may lead for said oils to be secreted out of the body without achieving the desired effect and before the active agents inside them reach a therapeutic dose. By obtaining an antimicrobial and antiinflammatory effect provided by the oils within this improved composition the inflammation inside the sinuses are cleaned out and at the same time the damaged tissues are repared and as a result a radical treatment is provided rather than a symptomatic one.
According to the composition prepared with the present invention, the usage of olive oil, nigella sativa, and rosemary oil together produce a synergic effect and the desired therapeutic dose is reached.
According to the European Pharmacopea 6.0 within the composition subject to the invention, comprises olive oil, 80% nigella sativa seed oil, and as major oil acids, by taking into consideration literature data, 50-56% linoleic acid,21-28% oleic acid, 12- 18% palmitic acid; following this the company specification has been formed and 15% was used and rosemary oil has been used as 4% according to the European pharmacopea.
This composition developed in order to be used in treating sinusitis is used as nose drops.
Preparation method
Olive oil 50 cc
Nigella sativa oil 50 cc
Rosemary oil 5 cc
The above mentioned ingredients are mixed. The obtained misture is filled into glass vials. The plant oil ratios used in treating sinusitis can vary. Olive oil can be used between 10-70cc, nigella sative oil can be used between 10-60cc and rosemary oil can be used between 1- 15 cc.
Sideritis oil which has antiinflammatory and antimicrobial effect, can be added to the olive oil, nigella sativa oil and rosemary oil composition subject to the invention. Also citrus leaf oil can be added to this developed composition subject to the invention.
