Abstract
The idea is to type text only with the thumbs while the hands hold a device like tablet computers or smartphones. The two-part split touchscreen keyboard enables people to enter keystrokes with both hands while holding the device because the keyboard is positioned on the left and right boarder of the touchscreen. The sort order of the characters is based on the standard sort order of the used character set. The first half of the letters is on the left side the others are on the right side.
Description
Two-part touchscreen keyboard for thumb handling.
The invention concerns touchscreen enabled handhold devices.
Handhold devices like tablet computers or smartphones have a touch screen. To enter text we need one hand to hold the device and the other to touch the keystrokes.
The user must search the letter keys on the screen, because the letters are displayed like on an old typewriter.
The task of this invention is a keyboard layout where a user can enter text with both hands while holding the device.
The task is solved through literal 1 of this claim.
The advantage is that a user can hold the device with both hands and enter keystrokes with his thumbs.
Figure 1 explains the invention.
1 Hand hold device like smartphones or tablet computers.
2 Touchscreen on the device.
3 Left side of the keyboard.
4 Right side of the keyboard.
5 Free defined letters, digits or special characters in the native sort order.
6 Special keys like: close the keyboard, go to the next or previous keyboard layout, switch to upper or lower case letters.
Figure 2 shows the right and left side position of the keyboard on different devices.
Figure 3 shows the different content layouts.
The invention of the split keyboard enables users to enter text into a device with there thumbs figure 1 symbol 1. The device has a touch screen 2. The keyboard has a left 3 and a right 4 part. The keyboard is shown on the touch screen and generated by software. The left part of the keyboard is positioned on the left boarder of the touch screen and the right part on the right boarder fig. 2. The letters on the keyboard 5 are positioned by the native sort order, therefore in a Latin character set the letters A to N will stay on the left side and the letters O to Z on the right side. The size of the keyboard is variable fig. 3 but each letter must be reachable by the thumb of the holding hand.
Claims
1 A split keyboard layout where the fist part of the keyboard is positioned at the left boarder of a touchscreen and the second part of the keyboard at the right boarder figure 1 symbol 3 and 4.
