Description

Sealing profile for a window or similar and window or similar provided with such a sealing profile.
The present invention relates to a sealing profile for a window, door or similar.
More specifically the invention concerns a sealing profile for a window or similar consisting of a frame that is composed of profiles and a panel affixed in a groove of the frame .
Traditionally profiles for windows or similar are constructed from half shells, respectively an inner shell and an outer shell, for example aluminium, that are connected together by means of one or more courses, which for example ensure the thermal or acoustic insulation between the two half shells.
The glass panel is thereby kept in place in the frame by means of glass supports, whereby an air gap remains between the outer edges of the panel and the frame.
After keying the glass panel in the groove, the edges of the glass panel and the aforementioned air gap are concealed behind glazing beads in the form of profiles that are affixed all around in the groove of the frame.
The panel thereby sits with its edges held between a seal that is provided to this end in the groove and a seal that is provided to this end between the glazing bead and the panel .
Windows that are composed in such a way present a disadvantage that they are not completely airtight at the location of the saw cuts of the glazing beads, and to a lesser extent the connection between the glazing beads and the frame . With high wind pressures in particular, when the glass panel is pushed against the glazing beads, air can be blown in between the seals and the glass panel, whereby this air can then leak inside through the openings of the saw cuts of the glazing beads, which causes a perceptible draught.
Such air leaks are undesired as they reduce the insulation of the window and cause a draught.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a solution to at least one of the aforementioned and other disadvantages .
To this end the invention concerns a sealing profile for a window or similar consisting of a frame that is composed of profiles and a panel affixed in a groove of the frame, whereby the sealing profile is made of an airtight material, and is composed of a base part for fastening the sealing profile in the groove and a foldable strip that is provided with adhesive means to be able to stick the foldable strip against a mounted panel. Such a sealing profile is fastened along the edges of the panel with its base part in the groove, after which the foldable strip is pressed tightly and bonded against the panel so that an airtight seal is formed around the panel between the frame and the panel.
Another advantage is that such a seal is simple to apply, whereby it can be chosen to affix the sealing profile in the profile before or after the panel is placed in the groove of the frame.
In a practical embodiment the adhesive means is at least one adhesive strip that extends over the entire length of the foldable strip, whereby when there are two or more adhesive strips, they extend parallel to one another and are separated by a fold zone along which the strip or a part thereof can be folded.
In another practical embodiment the base part comprises a series of parallel detailings, one of which is intended to be affixed in a detailing of the groove according to the thickness of the panel.
The advantage of these two aforementioned practical embodiments is that one sealing profile with different adhesive strips and/or different detailings on the base part can be almost universally applied for different types of profiles and panel thicknesses. Preferably the sealing profile is formed by a slat-shaped section with a profiling on one side of the slat-shaped section to form one or more parallel detailings of the base part for fastening in the groove and on the other side of the slat-shaped section one or more adhesive strips that are separated from one another by a fold zone.
Preferably means are provided to keep the foldable strip, in the assembled situation of the sealing profile, away from a panel to be fitted, for example by providing a hook- shaped part that is hooked behind a detailing in the groove .
This provides the advantage that as a result the sealing profile does not get in the way of placing the panel in the groove .
The invention also concerns a window consisting of a frame that is composed of profiles and a panel affixed in a groove of the frame, whereby the profiles are provided with a sealing profile according to the invention as described above that is fastened with its base part in the groove of the frame and with a foldable strip that is folded and bonded to the panel, whereby the sealing profile extends completely around the edge of the panel.
With the intention of better showing the characteristics of the invention, a few preferred embodiments - of a sealing profile according to the invention and a window provided with such a sealing profile are described hereinafter by way of an example, without any limiting nature, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: figure 1 schematically shows a perspective view of a window according to the invention;
figure 2 shows a cross-section according to line II-II of figure 1 on a larger scale during the fitting of the window;
figure 3 schematically shows a sealing profile according to the invention;
figures 4 and 5 successively show the different steps for fitting and fastening the glass panel and the sealing profile according to the invention;
figure 6 schematically shows an alternative embodiment of a sealing profile according to the invention;
figure 7 schematically shows an alternative embodiment of a sealing profile according to the invention, but in an assembled situation.
The window 1 shown in figure 1 consists of a fixed frame 2 and a frame 3 of a turnable leaf mounted therein, whereby the fixed frame 2 is intended to be installed in an opening of a wall of a building.
The frame 3 of the movable leaf in and the fixed frame 2 are both constructed of profiles that are connected together at their end in a suitable way.
A panel 5, in this case a glass panel 5,. whose edges are concealed behind glazing beads 6, is affixed in the frame 3. The cross-section of figure 2 shows that the profiles 4 of the movable leaf 3 and of the fixed frame 2 is constructed from two half shells 7a, 7 / respectively an inner shell 7a that is oriented towards the inside of the building and an outer shell 7b that is oriented towards the outside of the building.
The two half shells 7a, 7b7 are mutually connected together by means of insulating courses 8 that ensure a thermal break between the inner shell 7a and outer shell 7b. The two half shells 7a, 7b of the frame 3 of the movable leaf together form a groove 9 as it were in which a panel 5, such as a glass panel 5, is affixed, whereby the panel 5 is locally keyed in the frame 3 by means of glass supports, which for simplicity are not shown here.
According to the invention a sealing profile 10 is provided that is made of an airtight material and which consists of a base part 11 and a foldable strip 12, as shown in more detail in figure 3.
In this case, the sealing profile 10 is formed by a slat- shaped body that is divided by a constriction 13 into a base part 11 and a foldable strip 12 whereby the constriction 13 forms a fold zone 14 in the form of a film hinge along which the foldable strip 12 can be folded.
In this case, the base part 11 is profiled with one detailing 15 that extends over the entire length of the base part 11 and which fits in a detailing 16 of the groove 9, for example by means of clamping, such that the detailing 15 of the base part 11 can be pushed in the detailing 16 of the groove 9.
Alternatively it is also possible that there are no detailings 15, 16 in the base part 11 or the groove 9, but the sealing profile 10 is provided with an adhesive layer for fastening to the groove 9.
Instead of a fold zone 14 realised by a local weakening by a constriction 13, it is also possible to realise such a fold zone 14 in other ways, for example by choosing a material that is also foldable or flexible as the airtight material . The foldable strip 12 is provided with adhesive means, in this case in the form of an adhesive strip 17 that extends over the entire length of the sealing profile 10, and which in this case is provided with a removable protective tape 18.
Furthermore, means 19 are provided to keep the foldable strip 12 away from a panel 5 to be fitted in the assembled situation of the sealing profile 10. In this case these means 19 are formed by a hook-shaped part that fits behind a detailing 16 of the profile 4 concerned on which the sealing profile 10 is mounted, in this case behind the detailing 16 of the inner shell 7a of the frame 3 of the movable leaf in which the base part 11 is fastened. The detailing 16 is provided with an extra rib 20 to this end. The use of a sealing profile 10 according to the invention is simple and is illustrated in figures 2, 4 and 5. After the fixed frame 2 and the frame 3 of the leaf have been installed in an opening of a wall, the panel 5 is placed in the groove 9 as shown in figure 2 and keyed in the frame 3 of the leaf. Furthermore the groove 9 is provided with a seal 10 according to the invention, which is fastened along the periphery of the panel 5, if possible in the detailing 16 of the groove 9, either before fitting the panel 5, or after fitting the panel 5, whereby the hook-shaped part is hooked behind the rib 20.
In a subsequent step, after removing the protective tape 18, the foldable strip 12 is folded along the fold zone 14 and bonded to the panel 5, for example along the edges 21 of the side of the panel 5 oriented towards the inside, as shown in figure 4, whereby the foldable strips 12 are bonded overlapping on the panel 5 at the location of the corners to form an enclosing airtight seal that completely covers the air gap 22 around the panel 5.
Finally, the necessary glazing beads 6 and seals 23 are affixed between the glazing beads 6 and the panel 5 in the known way as shown in figure 5. Figure 6 shows a sealing profile 10 whereby there are three adhesive strips 18 that extend parallel to one another, and which are separated from one another by local constrictions 13 that enable the foldable strip 12 to be folded at different locations, for example depending on the thickness A of the panel 5 or the mutual position of the panel 5 with respect to the detailing 16 of the groove 9 or depending on the thickness B of the air gap 22, as shown in figure 7.
It goes without saying that it is also possible to provide each of the adhesive strips 17 with a removable protective tape 18.
In the embodiment of figure 6 a series of parallel detailings 15 is also provided on the base part 11. Depending on the thickness A of the panel 5, one of these detailings 15 can be fixed in the detailing 16 of the groove 9.
It is clear that the sealing profile 10 can be affixed before or after fitting the panel 5 in the groove 9, depending on how easy or how difficult it is to push the base part 11 in the detailing 16 of the groove 9 when the panel 5 is already affixed in the frame.
It is also clear that instead of a glass panel 5 another type of panel 5 can also be fitted in the groove 9.
The present invention is by no means limited to the embodiments described as an example and shown in the drawings, but a sealing profile and a window or similar according to the invention can be realised in all kinds of forms and dimensions, without departing from the scope of the invention.
