- a genuine designer bag may be provided with an RFID tag, allowing identification as genuine, while a fake designer bag would not allow such identification.
- the luggage item 1 further comprises a motion detection unit 18 (as a specific implementation of electronics or sensor units 18 mentioned above) connected to the control unit 11.
- a motion detection unit 18 allows a large number of functions to be implemented in the control unit 11 in cooperation with the app being executed on the (remotely located) personal device 12.
- the motion detection unit 18 output signal may be used to control the recharging function of the luggage item 1 : only after detection of motion (the luggage item is actually in use), the recharging function is enabled. Or after detection that no motion has occurred for a predetermined time period, the recharging function is disabled, allowing to protect the rechargeable battery 10 from deep unloading and possible damage.
- This embodiment obviates the need to have a separate (hardware) switch to control the rechargeable battery 10. Furthermore, the output of the motion detection unit 18 can be used together with data from other functional units in the luggage item 1, or e.g. in combination with the presence of a specific personal device 12 in the vicinity of the luggage item: the recharging function is only enabled when that specific personal device 12 is in the vicinity, and a recent motion detection has occurred.
- control unit 11 may be used in combination, e.g. data originating from the motion detection unit 18, GPS receiver 15, Bluetooth signal strength of connection between control unit 11 and personal device 12, etc.

- the luggage item 1 is locked when its owner is not within a predetermined distance (using GPS or Bluetooth signal strength data), or when the luggage item 1 is moving (using motion detection unit 18 and location data from location unit 15). This would ensure that the luggage item 1 is always locked, e.g. when moving with the luggage item 1 in backpack configuration through a crowded environment.
- embodiments may choose to share their location with (a selected group of) other people. This would even allow e.g. to react to a request of another person to use the chargeable battery 10 functionality of the luggage item 1.
- the additional electronic or sensor unit 18 may also be a lighting unit, e.g. in the form of a smart fabric forming (part of) the outside surface of the luggage item 1.
- the app on the personal device 12 can then be used to program or control the smart fabric, e.g. to provide a specific lighting pattern.
- the control unit 11 may be programmed to use the lighting unit as theft indicator ('This bag is stolen').
- the additional electronic or sensor unit 18 is a cooling element in a further embodiment, e.g. in the form of a Peltier element. This would allow to active cool e.g. a drink inside the luggage item 1, possible even dependent on other available data (timing, schedule data, identification of specific drink and look-up of desired consumption temperature, ... ).
- control unit 11 is arranged to gather and store user data for later use, possibly also for use by the producer or seller of the luggage item 1. This would allow use of the gathered data for marketing purposes, but also for service to the owner (e.g. already knowing that the luggage item 1 made a hard fall before a defect was noted may be helpful in quickly repairing the luggage item 1).
- the charging cable 17 can be a single charging cable for a specific device, or a group of cables (or connectors) for a plurality of external devices.
- the amount of energy can result in generation of excess heat, e.g. when voltage transformers are used to adapt the recharging voltage to a specific apparatus to be recharged.
- the voltage transformers are advantageously provided in the loading cable 17 (and not as part of the rechargeable battery 10). This allows to keep any heat generating components external of the luggage item, thus preventing any possible (local) overheating of the luggage item 1.
- the loading cable(s) 17 may be provided with automatic voltage adjustment in combination with a specific connector, such that a device is always charged with the proper charging voltage.
- a wireless charging method may be employed in the present luggage item, e.g. using induction charging or other electromagnetic charging methods without direct wire connection.
- a charging monitoring function implemented in the control unit 11 (e.g. start charging a personal device if its battery level drops below 20%) this would be very advantageous and user-friendly.
- the charging monitoring function may also be implemented in the control unit 1 1 when charging cables 17 are used, and may e.g. include generating a warning at low battery level after which a user can connect the respective personal device.

L'invention concerne un article de bagagerie (1) comprenant une unité de commande (11) connectée à une ou plusieurs unités électroniques (10, 14-18) disposées dans l'article de bagagerie (1). L'unité de commande est conçue pour communiquer avec un dispositif portable (12) externe à l'article de bagagerie (1). Plusieurs fonctions peuvent être mises en oeuvre par l'unité de commande (11) en coopération avec le dispositif portable (12), y compris la surveillance de l'état de charge d'une batterie rechargeable, la surveillance à distance entre l'article de bagagerie (1) et le dispositif portable (12), la détection de vol et l'alarme, etc.
