Accordingly, the terms will be defined based on the entire content of the description of the present invention.
Unless otherwise noted, the term “comprise” or variations such as “comprises” or “comprising” is understood to mean “includes, but is not limited to” so that other elements that are not explicitly mentioned may also be included. Also, the term “unit” or “module” means a unit of performing at least one function and may operate by using hardware or software or a combination of hardware and software. Expressions such as “at least one of,” when preceding a list of elements, modify the entire list of elements and do not modify the individual elements of the list.
The present invention relates to a method of providing a location-based service to a user and a wireless terminal using the same. FIG. 1 is a diagram showing a schematic operation of a wireless terminal providing a location-based service.
Referring to FIG. 1, wireless terminal 101 of FIG. 1 receives a global positioning system (GPS) signal from a GPS satellite 120 and detects a location thereof using the received GPS signal. Arrows in FIG. 1 represent the movement of the wireless terminal 101.
The wireless terminal 101 at an initial location determines a service provision area 110 so as to provide a location-based service to a user. The ‘location-based service’ provided to the user refers to providing various pieces of information to the user based on location information of the wireless terminal 101 and executing various functions. For example, the location-based service may include executing an application matched with a predetermined location or providing an advertisement associated with a location. In addition, the ‘service provision area 110’ determined to provide the location-based service may be a location or may include a predetermined area.
Referring to FIG. 1, the wireless terminal 101 is located outside of the service provision area 110, and thus the location-based service is not provided. When the wireless terminal 101 moves to be within the service provision area 110, the wireless terminal 101 ascertains the location of the wireless terminal 101 within the service provision area 110 and provides a location-based service. If the wireless terminal 101 moves again to be located outside of the service provision area 110, the provision of the location-based service is terminated. In the case of a wireless terminal shown in FIG. 1, in order to provide a location-based service, a continuous location detection of the wireless terminal is required. Thus, the wireless terminal needs to consistently receive the GPS signal, resulting in huge power consumption.
In the present invention, while an approximate location of a wireless terminal is ascertained by utilizing a positioning method that consumes a small amount of power at low definition, when it is determined that the wireless terminal approaches a destination at which a service is provided, exact location information is ascertained using a positioning method that consumes a large amount of power at high definition. Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a method of providing a location-based service at an exact location and reducing unnecessary power consumption.
A high-definition positioning method consuming high power includes a method using GPS, and a positioning method consuming low power at a lower definition than GPS includes a method using an assisted global positioning system (A-GPS). The A-GPS is a method using not only a GPS satellite signal but also a network resource in order to obtain the location of a terminal. The A-GPS may obtain the location of a satellite faster by utilizing a network resource, receive a good satellite signal via an auxiliary server even under a poor reception environment, and provide improved results by performing a large number of calculations. In addition, a low-definition positioning method that consumes a small amount of power includes a method using the location of a base station connected to a current wireless terminal or a method using location information of a Wifi AP.
FIG. 2 is a flowchart for describing a location-based service providing method according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Referring to FIG. 2, a method of providing a location-based service to a user, according to an embodiment of the present invention, includes an operation of determining a service provision area (operation S210), an operation of ascertaining whether a wireless terminal is within a predetermined range from the service provision area by using a first location detection method (operation S220), an operation of ascertaining, when the wireless terminal is within the predetermined range, whether the wireless terminal is within the service provision area by using a second location detection method (operation S230), and an operation of, when the wireless terminal is within the service provision area, providing a service corresponding to the service provision area (operation S240).
First, the operation of determining the service provision area (operation S210) may include an operation of determining the service provision area based on location setting information corresponding to an application installed in the wireless terminal.
The ‘location setting information’ corresponding to the application may include location information that is stored in the application by an application maker or a user so as to determine a service provision area so as to provide a location-based service, or that is received from an external server. In other words, an application maker himself/herself may store location setting information in an application, or alternatively, a user himself/herself may install an application and then input a location setting information. In a case where a user himself/herself installs and sets a location setting information, the user may set the location setting information by searching for a specific location or may set location setting information based on a present location, and various methods, for example, designating a shop name or a business category, may be used. Hereinafter, the operation of determining the service provision area (operation S210) of FIG. 2 including determining the service provision area based on the location setting information corresponding to the application will be described in detail with reference to FIGS. 4 and 5.
In addition, according to another embodiment of the present invention, the operation of determining the service provision area (operation S210) of FIG. 2 may include an operation of receiving an input of a keyword, an operation of searching for location areas corresponding to the received keyword and displaying the found location areas, and an operation of selecting at least one location area from among the displayed location areas.
According to another embodiment of the present invention, the location-based service providing method may further include an operation of accumulating and storing location information associated with movement of the wireless terminal, and the operation of searching the location areas corresponding to the received keyword and displaying the found location areas may include an operation of arranging location areas associated with the accumulated and stored location information from among found location areas according to priorities and displaying the arranged location areas. The arranging of the location areas may be performed by using a method of arranging location areas according to priorities of the location areas. For example, a location area in which a minimum distance from a present location is shorter may have a higher priority. A location area from which the wireless terminal has approached a larger number of times within a specific distance may have a higher priority. For example, if a user has already traveled to all parts of the country with a wireless terminal, all routes that the wireless terminal has travelled may be stored in the wireless terminal. The user that is supposed to go on a trip at this time desires to visit ‘restaurant A’, which is one of the restaurants that the user visited in the past, is clean, and has friendly staff, and thus the user searches for the ‘restaurant A’. A list of search results regarding ‘restaurant A’ across the country is arranged and displayed based on a user’s past travelled route history. At this time, in the list of search results, a point x where the user has visited in the past is displayed with top priority.
Accordingly, according to another embodiment of the present invention, when a wireless terminal determines a service provision area so as to provide a location-based service to a user, location search results are arranged and displayed based on a past travelled route of the wireless terminal separately from a distance from a present location of the wireless terminal. By giving priority to location areas that are more likely to be selected by a user and displaying the location areas, the time to ascertain location area search results by the user may be reduced.
In addition, according to another embodiment of the present invention, the operation of searching the location areas corresponding to the received keyword and displaying the found location areas may include an operation of receiving a category selection command to select at least one category from among categories corresponding to the found location areas and an operation of displaying only location areas corresponding to the selected category from among the found location areas. In other words, an input of a keyword is received from a user, location areas corresponding to the received keyword are searched, and search results are classified and displayed according to categories such as restaurants, culture, shopping, or transportation. A time for a user to ascertain unnecessary search results by selecting his/her desired category may be reduced.
In addition, according to another embodiment of the present invention, the operation of searching the location areas corresponding to the received keyword and displaying the found location areas may include an operation of searching for a shop name or a business category corresponding to the received keyword and an operation of displaying location areas associated with the found shop name or business category as a found shop name or name of the business category. The location areas associated with the found shop name or business category may include at least one location area corresponding to the found shop name or business category. Accordingly, in a case where it is possible that there are two or more service provision areas at which a location-based service is provided, a user may designate a shop name or a business category so as to receive the location-based service with respect to all location areas including the shop name or business category.
In addition, according to another embodiment of the present invention, the operation of determining the service provision area (operation S210) of FIG. 2 may include an operation of receiving advertisement information and an operation of determining a service provision area corresponding to the received advertisement information. For example, an advertisement maker provides an advertisement including location information to a user so as to provide, if the user approaches the service provision area corresponding to the advertisement, a service displaying discount information or coupon information provided in the advertisement. Even in a case of an advertisement made by the advertisement maker does not include location information, a user himself/herself may designate location information so as to register the location information in a location-based service.
Next, the location-based service providing method according to an embodiment of the present invention includes the operation of ascertaining whether the wireless terminal is within the predetermined range from the service provision area by using the first location detection method (operation S220) and the operation of ascertaining, when the wireless terminal is within the predetermined range, whether the wireless terminal is within the service provision area by using the second location detection method (operation S230). At this time, the ‘predetermined range from the service provision area’ refers to the vicinity of the service provision area that is designated by a user so as to detect the location of the wireless terminal by replacing the first location detection method with the second location detection method. The wireless terminal determines whether there is a need to use a more precise and accurate location detection method, that is, the second location detection method, by detecting an approximate location of the wireless terminal using the first location detection method.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, in the location-based service providing method, the first location detection method may be a location detection method that consumes less power than the second location detection method. For example, the first location detection method may include a location detection method using A-GPS, and the second location detection method may be a location detection method using GPS. In addition, the first location detection method may include a method of determining whether a wireless terminal approaches a service provision area via a WiFi map.
According to another embodiment of the present invention, an area not requiring a high-power location detection method, for example, a GPS method, utilizes only a low-power location detection method, for example, an A-GPS method or a location detection method using location information of a base station, and thus unnecessary power consumption of a wireless terminal may be reduced. In addition, when the wireless terminal is within a predetermined range from a service provision area, a high-power location detection method is automatically activated/inactivated in providing a location-based service, and thus a user may be conveniently provided with the location-based service.
According to another embodiment of the present invention, the operation of ascertaining using the location detection method (operation S220) may include an operation of ascertaining whether a wireless terminal is within a predetermined range from a service provision area using location information of a base station communicating with the wireless terminal. At this time, the ‘predetermined range from a service provision area’ may include a coverage of at least one base station corresponding to the service provision area. A user terminal ascertains location information of a base station connected thereto at present. The wireless terminal may manage a database containing an ID and location information and receive only ID information when being connected to the base station or may receive location information whenever being connected to the base station. For example, the operation of ascertaining using the location detection method (operation S220) may determine, when a base station communicating with a wireless terminal is within a service provision area or when the service provision area overlaps with a coverage of the base station communicating with the wireless terminal or is within the coverage, that the wireless terminal is within a predetermined range from the service provision area.
Next, the location-based service providing method according to the embodiment of the present invention includes the operation of, when the wireless terminal is within the service provision area, providing a service corresponding to the service provision area (operation S240).
At this time, the operation of providing the service corresponding to the service provision area (operation S240) may include an operation of, when the wireless terminal is within the service provision area, executing a service of executing an application.
For example, a user desires to be provided, using a location-based service, with a service of executing a ‘preacquaintance’ application that, if the user arrives at a predetermined location, notifies the user of the arrival of the user. Specifically, the user desires to be provided with a notification, if the user is located near a department store B, of purchasing a badminton racket. The wireless terminal receives ‘department store B’ for determining a location-based service as an input of a keyword from the user. As search results of the ‘department store B’, ‘department store B entrance’ is displayed in a ‘shopping’ list, ‘department store B parking lot’ is displayed in a ‘transportation’ list, ‘department store B y application providing server’ is displayed in an ‘application providing server’ list, and ‘department store B z cafe’ is displayed in a ‘coffee shop’ list. A user may rapidly designate the service provision area as the ‘department store B entrance’ without performing an unnecessary search operation (scrolling down or the like) by selecting the category of ‘shopping’ and may be provided with a preacquaintance service for ‘purchasing badminton racket’.
For example, a user desires to refuel in a refuelling station C using a ‘preacquaintance’ service of the ‘preacquaintance’ application. The wireless terminal receives ‘filling station C’ for determining a location-based service providing area as an input of a keyword from the user. As search results of the ‘filling station C’, ‘filling station C’ rather than ‘filling station C point m’ or the like is displayed at the top of a search list, and the user may select the ‘filling station C’ and determine the ‘filling station C’ as a service provision area. At this time, any of various methods of displaying the ‘filling station C’ may be used. The ‘filling station C’ may be displayed in the form of an icon rather than text. At this time, the service provision area may be determined as all points of ‘filling station C’ located in the country. When the wireless terminal approaches any one point from among the ‘filling stations C’ in the country, the user may be provided with a preacquaintance service for refueling.
The operation of, when the wireless terminal is within the service provision area, providing the service of FIG. 2 including the operation of providing a service of executing an application (operation S240) will be described in detail with reference to FIGS. 6A and 6B.
In addition, according to another embodiment of the present invention, the operation of providing the service corresponding to the service provision area (operation S240) of FIG. 2 may include an operation of, when the wireless terminal is within the service provision area, displaying advertisement information corresponding to the service provision area. In other words, an advertisement maker may provide an advertisement including location information to a user so as to provide, if the user approaches the service provision area corresponding to the advertisement, a service displaying discount information or coupon information provided in the advertisement.
For example, a user sees a discount coupon for a sticker photo studio. The user does not need to go the sticker photo studio at the moment, but the user thinks that he/her wants to use this coupon for a meeting with his/her friend after a few days. In this case, the user may be provided with the location-based service according to the embodiment of the present invention. In other words, the wireless terminal may determine the service provision area corresponding to the received advertisement information and provide, when the wireless terminal is within the service provision area, the location-based service of displaying advertisement information corresponding to the service provision area. At this time, even in a case of an advertisement not including location information by the advertisement maker, the user himself/herself may designate location information and register the location information in the location-based service. For example, when the user performs a long-touch on a received advertisement (when the user maintains the long-touch for over a predetermined time, a location-based service registration menu is displayed, and thus the user may register a menu item as a new alarm. Various other methods including a double-touch (touch twice within a short period of time), a multi-touch, and the like, as well as the long-touch, may be used.
As another example, a user meets a friend, and the user and the friend agree to go to a sticker photo studio nearby, and then the user activates a location-based service with respect to an advertisement that is previously registered. When the user had a good time at, for example, a restaurant, a coffee shop, a karaoke establishment, and the like, if a wireless terminal approaches the sticker photo studio, the wireless terminal displays an advertisement of the sticker photo studio. The user is provided with information regarding a discount coupon, the location of the sticker photo studio, directions to the sticker photo studio, and the like from the advertisement. When the wireless terminal connects the advertisement with the location-based service and thus the wireless terminal is located in a service provision area corresponding to the advertisement, the user may be conveniently provided with coupon and discount information and an advertisement maker may obtain a greater advertisement effect.
FIG. 3 is a diagram for describing operations of a wireless terminal 301 providing a location-based service, according to another embodiment of the present invention. According to another embodiment of the present invention, the wireless terminal 301 uses a location detection method using location information of a base station as a first location detection method and uses a location detection method using GPS as a second location detection method . Arrows in FIG. 3 represent the movement of the wireless terminal 301.
Referring to FIG. 3, the wireless terminal 301 at an initial location determines a service provision area 310. Such an operation of the wireless terminal 301 of FIG. 3 corresponds to the operation of determining the service provision area (operation S210) of FIG. 2.
The wireless terminal 301 determining the service provision area 310 ascertains, using the first location detection method, whether the wireless terminal is within a predetermined range from the service provision area 310. The determining operation of the wireless terminal 301 corresponds to the operation of determining the service provision area (operation S220) of FIG. 2.
In FIG. 3, the first location detection method is a method of ascertaining whether a wireless terminal is within a predetermined range from the service provision area 310 by using location information of a base station communicating with the wireless terminal. In FIG. 3, the predetermined range from the service provision area 310 is a coverage 320 of a base station 325, which includes the service provision area 310. Thus, the wireless terminal 301 ascertains, using location information of a base station that is communicating with the wireless terminal 301 at present, whether the wireless terminal 301 is within a predetermined range from the service provision area 310, that is, whether the wireless terminal 301 is within the coverage 320 of the base station 325. Since the wireless terminal 301 is communicating with a base station 345 at present, it is determined that the wireless terminal 301 is not within the coverage 320.
If the wireless terminal 301 moves and thus the wireless terminal 301 is located within the coverage 320 of the base station 325, the wireless terminal 301 communicates with the base station 325, and thus it is determined that the wireless terminal 301 is within the coverage 320 of the base station 325.
If the wireless terminal 301 is within the coverage 320, and the wireless terminal 301 ascertains, using the second location detection method, whether the wireless terminal 301 is within the service provision area 310. Such an operation of the wireless terminal 301 corresponds to the operation of determining the service provision area (operation S230) of FIG. 2. In FIG. 3, the second location detection method is a location detection method using GPS. FIG. 3 shows that a GPS signal is received when the wireless terminal 301 moves to the service provision area 310.
When the wireless terminal 301 moves to the service provision area 310 and thus the wireless terminal 301 is located within the service provision area 310, the wireless terminal 301 provides a service corresponding to the service provision area 310. Such an operation of the wireless terminal 301 corresponds to the operation of determining the service provision area (operation S240) of FIG. 2.
When the wireless terminal 301 moves to be outside of the service provision area 310, the wireless terminal 301 stops providing a location-based service. However, since the wireless terminal 301 is still located within a predetermined range from the service provision area 310, the second location detection method, that is, a location detection operation through reception of a GPS signal, is continuously performed. When the wireless terminal 301 moves again to be outside of the coverage 320 of the base station 325, the wireless terminal 301 may reduce unnecessary power consumption by stopping receiving the GPS signal and using a method of detecting an approximate location of a wireless terminal using location information of a base station communicating with the wireless terminal 301.
FIG. 4 is a diagram for describing a location-based service providing method according to another embodiment of the present invention. In detail, FIG. 4 shows a flowchart of a method of determining a service provision area based on location setting information corresponding to an application.
The location-based service providing method according to another embodiment of the present invention may include an operation of installing a new application in a wireless terminal (operation S411), an operation of ascertaining whether the application includes location setting information (operation S412), and an operation of determining, when it is ascertained that the application includes the location setting information, the location setting information of the application as the service provision area (operation S410).
In addition, when the application does not include the location setting information at the time when the application is installed, thee location setting information is received from a server operated by an application maker, or when the application and the location setting information are simultaneously updated, the location setting information may be newly designated. At this time, the location-based service providing method according to another embodiment of the present invention may include an operation of a user executing a previously-installed application (operation S421), an operation of a terminal ascertaining whether the application includes the newly updated location setting information (operation S422), an operation of invoking, when it is ascertained that the application includes the newly updated location setting information, an application program interface (API) associated with a location-based service (operation S423), and an operation of determining the location setting information updated by the invoked API as the service provision area (operation S410).
According to another embodiment of the present invention, since the service provision area is automatically determined based on the location setting information included in the application, it is possible to save the user trouble of re-inputting or setting location information of the application in order to use the location-based service by interlocking with the application.
FIG. 5 is a diagram for describing a location-based service providing method according to another embodiment of the present invention. Hereinafter, an example of location setting information corresponding to an application will be described with reference to FIG. 5.
An application maker may include location setting information 502 in an application 501 made, and register the application 501 in an application providing server. The ‘application providing server’ refers to an online space with respect to which an application may be uploaded or downloaded. The application 501 registered in the application providing server may include a name, location setting information, and an identifier for identifying the application in the application providing server. The location setting information 502 of the application 501 may include location information for determining a service provision area. Referring to FIG. 5, ‘location information: latitude XX, longitude YY’ as the location information for determining the service provision area is displayed in the location setting information 502. Accordingly, the service provision area is determined based on latitude XX and longitude YY.
When the application 501 is installed in a wireless terminal, the wireless terminal ascertains whether the application 501 includes the location setting information 502. When it is ascertained that the application 501 includes the location setting information 502, the wireless terminal determines the service provision area based on the location setting information 502 included in the application 501. Such an operation corresponds to the operation of ascertaining whether an application includes location setting information (operation S412) and the operation of determining, when it is ascertained that the application includes the location setting information, the location setting information of the application as the service provision area (operation S410) of FIG. 4.
In addition, when the application 501 is previously installed, the wireless terminal ascertains whether the updated location setting information is present when installing the application 501. When the updated location setting information is present in the application 501, the wireless terminal determines the service provision area based on the updated location setting information. Such an operation corresponds to the operation of ascertaining whether an application includes updated location setting information (operation S422), the operation of invoking an API associated with a location-based service (operation S423), and the operation of determining the location setting information updated by the invoked API as the service provision area (operation S410) of FIG. 4.
According to another embodiment of the present invention, it is ascertained whether a location-based service is activated with respect to an installed application, and if the location-based service is activated, the location-based service may be provided. In order to activate the location-based service with respect to the application, a command for determining whether to activate the location-based service may be included in location setting information included in the application.
Referring to FIG. 5, ‘location-based service: YES’ as a command for determining whether to activate the location-based service with respect to the application is displayed in the location setting information 502. Accordingly, the location-based service may be activated with respect to the application.
As shown in FIG. 5, by including a command for activating the location-based service in the application installed in the wireless terminal, the location-based service may be automatically activated when the application is installed. Alternatively, the installed application may include a configuration of activating the location-based service. Alternatively, an integrated setting application managing the location-based service may be separately present so that the integrated setting application may selectively activate the application. In this case, the integrated setting application may provide functions managing a list of all applications associated with the location-based service and setting whether to provide the location-based service to each application and may provide various types of user interfaces.
FIGS. 6A and 6B are diagrams for describing an example of a location-based service providing method according to another embodiment of the present invention. Hereinafter, an example of an operation of providing, when a wireless terminal is included in a service provision area, a service of executing an application will be described with reference to FIGS. 6A and 6B. According to another embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a service that allows the wireless terminal to determine the service provision area based on location setting information corresponding to the installed application and that executes the application when the wireless terminal is in the service provision area. At this time, the wireless terminal may interlock the application with the location-based service so as to, when the wireless terminal is located in the service provision area, automatically execute the application or to allow a command for executing the application to be received from a user, thereby saving the user trouble of executing the application.
For example, when a ‘megabox’ application provided from a movie theater by the name of ‘Megabox’ is installed in a wireless terminal, the wireless terminal ascertains whether or not the application includes location setting information. If it is ascertained that the ‘megabox’ application includes location setting information of Samseong Station, the wireless terminal determines Samseong Station as a service provision area. When the wireless terminal moves to Samseong Station corresponding to the service provision area of the ‘megabox’ application and approaches a movie theater, the application may be automatically executed without an additional input from a user as shown in FIG. 6A. If the application is executed, the user is provided with information associated with a movie show time and ticketing, a coupon, and the like. The information provided to the user from the application may include not only public information such as a movie schedule or discounts, but also personal information such as a coupon that may be provided according to a membership grade of the user or a gift card that the user individually has.
According to another embodiment of the present invention, if a wireless terminal is located within a service provision area, the wireless terminal may display whether to execute an application for a user in an alarm manner and may or may not execute the application according to the user’s selection.
