Definitions

  • the present invention relates to the field of paper processing and converting machines, in particular of machines for converting so-called tissue paper to produce toilet paper, kitchen towels, or the like.
  • tissue paper converting In the field of paper converting, in particular tissue paper converting, semifinished products are produced in the form of elongated products that must be cut to- measure to obtain the products destined for packaging and consumption.
  • elongated products An example of these elongated products are the piles of interfolded napkins or handkerchiefs that exit from the interleaving machine and shall be subdivided into single packs.
  • elongated products to be cut are the rolls or log of web materials, for instance single- ply or multi-ply tissue paper, that shall be cut into rolls of smaller axial length destined for packaging and consumption.
  • logs or rolls are produced by rewinding machines receiving the web material from one or more parent reels that are unwound by an unwinder, and winding the web material again thus forming logs of diameter equal to the diameter of the products destined for consumption and of axial length equal to a multiple of the axial length of the finished rolls.
  • the logs thus obtained shall be cut into single rolls or small rolls, eliminating the head and tail trimming if necessary.
  • so-called severing machines are known, sequentially cutting each log into a plurality of rolls that are subsequently packed.
  • the severing machine comprises a device for feeding the logs along one or more adjacent channels according to a respective feeding path passing across a cutting area or station.

These devices are also called “clamps". They are usually arranged on both the sides of the cutting plane. Abstract
