본 발명은 이차 전지용 배터리 모듈에 관한 것으로, 더욱 상세하게는 밀폐 구조를 통해 배터리 셀이 외부와 밀폐되어 기밀성을 유지할 수 있는 이차 전지용 배터리 모듈에 관한 것이다.
통상적으로 2차 전지는 재충전이 가능하고 대용량화가 가능한 것으로 대표적인 것으로 니켈카드뮴, 니켈수소 및 리튬이온전지 등이 있다. 이중에서 상기 리튬이온전지는 장 수명, 고용량 등 우수한 특성으로 인하여 차세대 동력원으로 주목받고 있다. 이 중에서, 리튬 2차 전지는 작동 전압이 3.6V 이상으로 휴대용 전자 기기의 전원으로 사용되거나, 또는 수개를 직렬 연결하여 고출력의 하이브리드 자동차에 사용되는데, 니켈-카드뮴 전지나, 니켈-메탈 하이드라이드 전지에 비하여 작동 전압이 3배가 높고, 단위 중량당 에너지 밀도의 특성도 우수하여 급속도로 사용이 증가되고 있는 추세이다.
상기 리튬 2차 전지는 다양한 형태로 제조가능한데, 대표적인 형상으로는 리튬 이온 전지에 주로 사용되는 원통형(cylinder type) 및 각형(prismatic type)을 들 수 있다. 최근 들어 각광받는 리튬 폴리머 전지는 유연성을 지닌 파우치 형(pouched type)으로 제조되어서, 그 형상이 비교적 자유롭다. 또한 리튬 폴리머 전지는 안전성도 우수하고, 무게가 가벼워서 휴대용 전자 기기의 슬림화 및 경량화에 유리하다.
상기 파우치형으로 되는 배터리 셀은 다수 개를 적층하여 직렬 또는 병렬로 연결하는 배터리 모듈 형태로 구현될 수 있다. 배터리 모듈은 다수 개가 적층되는 배터리 셀을 외부로부터 보호하기 위해 알루미늄과 같은 재질의 케이스를 통해 배터리 셀을 감싸는 구조로 이루어진다.
통상의 배터리 모듈은 다수의 배터리 셀을 커버하기 위한 케이스가 완전히 밀폐되지 않아, 배터리 셀에서 발생되는 유해가스가 배터리 모듈 외부로 유출되어 사용자가 유해가스에 노출되고, 배터리 셀 과열 시 배터리 모듈 내로 산소가 공급되어 발화될 수 있는 문제점이 있었다.
본 발명은 상기와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 안출된 것으로서 본 발명의 목적은, 배터리 모듈의 이중 밀폐 구조를 통해 안정성이 높은 이차 전지용 배터리 모듈을 제공함에 있다.
본 발명의 배터리 모듈은, 복수 개의 배터리 셀이 적층되며, 상기 배터리 셀 각각의 양극탭 및 음극탭이 이웃하는 배터리 셀의 양극탭 및 음극탭과 전기적으로 연결되는 이차 전지용 배터리 모듈에 있어서, 상부가 개방되며, 상기 배터리 셀이 안착되는 하부케이스; 상기 하부케이스의 개방면을 밀폐하는 상부케이스; 상기 하부케이스와 상부케이스의 결합면에 밀착 구비되는 제1 실링부재; 및 상기 하부케이스와 상부케이스의 결합면 둘레에 도포되는 제2 실링부재; 를 한다.
이때, 상기 제1 실링부재는, 이중사출로 상기 하부케이스에 일체로 되며, 상기 하부케이스의 상면에는, 상기 제2 실링부재가 도포되는 제2 실링홈이, 상기 결합면 외측 둘레를 따라 하방으로 함몰 된다.

이하, 상기와 같은 본 발명의 일실시 예에 대하여 도면을 참조하여 상세히 설명한다.
도 1 내지 도 4를 참조하면, 본 발명의 일실시 예에 따른 배터리 모듈(10)은 양극탭 및 음극탭이 노출되는 복수개의 배터리 셀(100)이 적층되며, 배터리 셀(100)의 양극탭 및 음극탭은 이웃하는 배터리 셀(100)의 양극탭 및 음극탭과 전기적으로 연결된다. 복수의 배터리 셀(100)은 이차 전지의 사용 용도에 따라 직렬 또는 병렬로 연결된다.
또한, 복수 개가 적층되는 배터리 셀(100)의 계면에는 냉각부재(200)가 개재되어, 배터리 셀(100)에서 발생되는 열을 외부로 방출한다.
냉각부재(200)는 냉각패드(210)와 냉각핀(220)으로 구성되며, 냉각패드(210)는 배터리 셀(100)의 계면에 밀착되어 배터리 셀(100)에서 발생되는 열을 흡수하여 냉각핀(220)으로 전달하고, 냉각패드(210)의 측면 외측으로 연장 형성되는 냉각핀(220)은 배터리 모듈(10)의 외부로 열을 방출한다.
이때 본 발명의 일실시 예에 따른 배터리 모듈(10)은 복수 개의 냉각부재(200)와 냉각부재(200)의 사이에 개재된 배터리 셀(100)이 케이스(300)의 내부에 위치하며, 밀폐되는 것을 특징으로 한다. 또한, 냉각패드(210)의 측면 외측으로 연장 형성되는 냉각핀(220)은 케이스(300)의 외부에 노출되도록 배치되어, 외부 공기와 공랭식으로 냉각될 수 있다.
본 발명의 일실시 예에 따른 배터리 모듈(10)은 냉각부재(200)가 공랭식으로 냉각되는 것으로 기재 및 도시되어 있으나, 냉각부재(200)의 냉각 방식을 공랭식으로 한정하는 것은 아니며, 유체를 통해 냉각부재(200)를 냉각하는 수냉식도 적용될 수 있음은 자명하다.
도 1 및 도 2를 참조하면, 케이스(300)는 하부케이스(310), 상부케이스(320), PCB커버(330)를 포함하여 이루어진다. 하부케이스(310)는 복수 개가 적층되는 배터리 셀(100)과 냉각부재(200)가 수용되도록 상부가 개방되는 함체 상으로 이루어진다. 또한, 하부케이스(310)는 배터리 셀(100)과 냉각패드(210)를 수용하고, 냉각핀(220)은 외부에 노출되도록 양측면이 개방된다. 상부케이스(320)는 하부케이스(310)의 상부를 밀폐하도록 구성되며, 적층되는 배터리 셀(100)의 전극탭 형성부에 구비되는 PCB(Printed Circuit Board, 400)가 외부에 노출되도록 PCB공간(325)이 형성된다. PCB커버(330)는 상기 PCB공간(325)을 밀폐하도록 구성된다.
이하, 상술된 하부케이스(310)와 상부케이스(320)의 결합에 의해 케이스(300) 내부에 구비되는 배터리 셀(100) 및 냉각패드(210)가 외부와 완전히 밀폐되기 위한 본 발명의 일실시 예의 배터리 모듈(10)의 세부 실시 예에 대하여 도면을 참조하여 상세히 설명하기로 한다.
도 3 및 도 4를 참조하면, 냉각부재(200)의 일면과 타면에는 측면 실링홈(221)이 형성된다. 측면 실링홈(221)은 냉각패드(210)와 냉각핀(220)의 경계면을 따라 상하 길이 방향으로 형성된다. 냉각부재(200)의 일면에 인접한 냉각부재(200)의 타면에는 측면 실링홈(221)과 대응되는 측면 실링홈(221')이 형성될 수 있다. 측면 실링홈(221)과 이웃하는 측면 실링홈(221')에는 측면 실링부재(230)가 삽입되어, 측면 실링홈(221)과 이웃하는 측면 실링홈(221')을 연결함과 동시에 배터리 셀(100)의 양측면을 외부로부터 밀폐한다. 따라서 배터리 셀(100)에서 발생되는 유해가스가 양측면으로 배출되는 것을 방지하고, 외부 산소가 배터리 셀(100) 내부로 유입되는 것을 방지한다.
도 2 및 도 5를 참조하면, 하부케이스(310) 상에는 제1 실링부재(S1)가 안착되는 제1 실링홈(311)이 형성된다. 제1 실링홈(311)은 하부케이스(310)와 냉각핀(220) 및 하부케이스(310)와 상부케이스(320)의 결합면에 형성될 수 있다. 따라서 제1 실링홈(311)에 제1 실링부재(S1)가 안착되어 제1 실링부재(S1)를 통해 하부케이스(310)와 냉각핀(220) 및 하부케이스(310)와 상부케이스(320)를 밀착시킨다. 이때 제1 실링부재(S1)가 맞닿는 상부케이스(320)의 하면에는 밀폐홈(323)이 상방으로 함몰 형성될 수 있다. 밀폐홈(323)을 통해 제1 실링부재(S1)가 밀착되는 실링 면적이 넓어짐으로 실링 효과를 배가시킬 수 있다.
이때, 제1 실링부재(S1)와 하부케이스(310)는 이중사출로 형성될 수 있다. 상기 이중사출이란 2종의 다른 수지를 사출하는 방법으로, 본 발명에서 하부케이스(310)를 제작할 경우, 경도가 높은 하부케이스(310)를 제작한 후, 경도가 낮은 제1 실링부재(S1)를 사출하여 제작하는 방법을 말한다.
상기와 같은 구성의 본 발명의 일실시 예에 따른 배터리 모듈(10)은, 냉각부재(200)의 냉각핀(220) 사이에 위치한 측면실링부재(230)와 하부케이스(310)에 냉각핀(220)과 접하는 곳에 형성되는 제1 실링부재(S1)로 인해서, 배터리 셀(100)의 양측면으로 유해가스가 유출되는 것을 방지하고, 하부케이스(310)와 상부케이스(320)가 접하는 곳에 형성되는 제1 실링부재(S1)를 통해 상부케이스(320)와 하부케이스(310)가 접하는 곳으로 유해가스가 유출되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
제1 실링부재(S1)는 고무재질의 탄력성을 가지는 재료로 제작되어 냉각핀(220)과 상부케이스(320)가 제1 실링부재(S1)에 밀착되었을 때 실링이 되어 케이스(300)의 내부가 밀폐되는 것이 바람직하다.
또한, 하부케이스(310) 상에는 제2 실링부재(S2)가 안착되는 제2 실링홈(312)이 형성된다. 제2 실링홈(312)은 하부케이스(310)와 냉각핀(220) 및 하부케이스(310)와 상부케이스(320)의 결합면에 형성되되, 제1 실링홈(311)의 외측에 형성될 수 있다. 특히 상부케이스(320)의 둘레면과 하부케이스(310) 및 냉각핀(220)의 둘레면과, 하부케이스(310)를 실링할 수 있도록 형성된다. 따라서 제2 실링부재(S2)는 상부케이스(320)와 하부케이스(310)가 결합된 상태에서 제2 실링홈(312)에 도포되어 상부케이스(320)와 하부케이스(310)를 실링한다. 제2 실링부재(S2)는 도포된 후 경화되어 상부케이스(320)와 하부케이스(310)의 실링이 가능한 통상의 실리콘 재질이 적용될 수 있다.
따라서 제2 실링홈(312)에 제2 실링부재(S2)가 도포되어 제2 실링부재(S2)를 통해 하부케이스(310)와 냉각핀(220) 및 하부케이스(310)와 상부케이스(320)의 밀폐를 더욱 견고히 한다. 특히 제2 실링부재(S2)를 통해 외부에서 배터리 셀(100)로 유입되는 산소를 차단시킬 수 있다.
도 4 및 도 6을 참조하면, PCB(400)는 인쇄회로기판으로 배터리 셀(100)의 전극탭에 연결되어, 배터리 모듈(10)의 전압 및 여러 가지 정보를 관리 및 수집하는 역할을 한다.
PCB(400)가 배터리 모듈(10)에 설치 시 상부케이스(320)의 PCB공간(325)을 통해 일부분이 개방되어 외부에서 PCB(400)로 연결할 수 있도록 설계하는 것이 바람직하다.
이때, 개방된 부분으로 유해가스가 노출될 수 있기 때문에, PCB(400)와 상부케이스(320)가 접촉되는 부분에 제3 실링부재(S3)가 형성되어, 개방된 부분으로 유해가스가 노출되는 것을 방지할 수 있다. 이를 위해 PCB(400)에는 상부케이스(320)의 결합 및 제3 실링부재(S3)의 안착을 위한 상부케이스 결합홈(410)이 형성된다. PCB(400)는 메인기판(400a)과 메인기판(400a)의 고정 및 설치를 위해 메인기판(400a)둘레에 형성되는 프레임기판(400b)으로 구성된다. 상부케이스 결합홈(410)은 프레임기판(400b)의 상면에서 하방으로 함몰 형성된다. 상부케이스 결합홈(410)에는 PCB공간(325) 둘레에서 내측으로 연장되며, 연장되는 내측 끝단에서 하방으로 연장되는 상부케이스(320)의 PCB결합돌기(326)가 끼워져 PCB(400)와 상부케이스(320)가 결합된다. 또한 상부케이스 결합홈(410)에 안착되는 제3 실링부재(S3)를 통해 PCB(400)와 상부케이스(320)가 밀폐 결합된다.
제3 실링부재(S3)와 상부케이스(320)는 이중사출로 형성될 수 있다. 상기 이중사출이란 2종의 다른 수지를 사출하는 방법으로, 본 발명에서 상부케이스(320)를 제작할 경우, 경도가 높은 상부케이스(320)를 제작한 후, 경도가 낮은 제3 실링부재(S3)를 사출하여 제작하는 방법을 말한다.
또한, PCB(400)가 외부로 노출되는 것을 방지하기 위해서, PCB커버(330)를 구비하여 외부적인 충격에 의해 PCB(400)가 파손되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
제3 실링부재(S3)는 고무재질의 탄력성을 가지는 재료로 제작되어 PCB(400)와, 상부케이스(320)가 제3 실링부재(S3)에 밀착되었을 때 실링이 되어 케이스(300)의 내부가 밀폐되는 것이 바람직하다.
이때, 프레임기판(400b)은 제4 실링부재(S4)를 도포하기 위한 공간이 추가 형성된다. 이를 위해 상부케이스 결합홈(410)의 폭은 PCB결합돌기(326)의 폭보다 넓게 형성될 수 있다. 따라서 PCB결합돌기(326)는 상부케이스 결합홈(410)의 외측에 결합되도록 하고 상부케이스 결합홈(410)의 내측에는 제4 실링부재(S4)가 도포되도록 한다. 따라서 제4 실링부재(S4)는 상부케이스(320)와 하부케이스(310)가 결합된 상태에서 상부케이스 결합홈(410)에 도포되어 PCB(400)와 상부케이스(320)를 실링한다. 제4 실링부재(S4)는 도포된 후 경화되어 PCB(400)와 상부케이스(320)의 실링이 가능한 통상의 실리콘 재질이 적용될 수 있다.
따라서 상부케이스 결합홈(410)에 제4 실링부재(S4)가 도포되어 제4 실링부재(S4)를 통해 PCB(400)와 상부케이스(320)의 밀폐를 더욱 견고히 한다. 특히 제4 실링부재(S2)를 통해 외부에서 배터리 셀(100)로 유입되는 산소를 차단시킬 수 있다.
한편, 케이스(300) 내부에 유해가스로 축적되어 케이스(300)가 팽창되어 안정성에 문제가 될 수 도 있다. 이를 방지하기 위해서, 상부케이스(320)에 가스관홀(322)을 형성하고, 가스관홀(322)에 가스관(321)을 삽입하여 가스관(321)을 통해서 유해가스를 특정구간으로 유해가스를 이동하여, 케이스(300)가 팽창되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
본 발명의 상기한 실시 예에 한정하여 기술적 사상을 해석해서는 안 된다. 적용범위가 다양함은 물론이고, 청구범위에서 청구하는 본 발명의 요지를 벗어남이 없이 당업자의 수준에서 다양한 변형 실시가 가능하다. 따라서 이러한 개량 및 변경은 당업자에게 자명한 것인 한 본 발명의 보호범위에 속하게 된다.

Claims (8)

  1. 복수 개의 배터리 셀이 적층되며, 상기 배터리 셀 각각의 양극탭 및 음극탭이 이웃하는 배터리 셀의 양극탭 및 음극탭과 전기적으로 연결되는 이차 전지용 배터리 모듈에 있어서,
    상부가 개방되며, 상기 배터리 셀이 안착되는 하부케이스;
    상기 하부케이스의 개방면을 밀폐하는 상부케이스;
    상기 하부케이스와 상부케이스의 결합면에 밀착 구비되는 제1 실링부재; 및
    상기 하부케이스와 상부케이스의 결합면 둘레에 도포되는 제2 실링부재;
    를 포함하는, 이차 전지용 배터리 모듈.
  2. 제 1항에 있어서,
    상기 제1 실링부재는,
    이중사출로 상기 하부케이스에 일체로 형성되는, 이차 전지용 배터리 모듈.
  3. 제 1항에 있어서,
    상기 하부케이스의 상면에는,
    상기 제2 실링부재가 도포되는 제2 실링홈이, 상기 결합면 외측 둘레를 따라 하방으로 함몰 형성되는, 이차 전지용 배터리 모듈.
  4. 제 1항에 있어서,
    상기 배터리 모듈은,
    PCB를 더 포함하며,
    상기 상부케이스에는, 상기 PCB의 설치를 위한 PCB공간이 관통 형성되고,
    상기 PCB와 상기 상부케이스의 결합면에는 제3 실링부재가 밀착 구비되는, 이차 전지용 배터리 모듈.
  5. 제 4항에 있어서,
    상기 제3 실링부재는,
    이중사출로 상기 PCB에 일체로 형성되는, 이차 전지용 배터리 모듈.
  6. 제 4항에 있어서,
    상기 PCB는,
    상기 PCB와 상부케이스의 결합면 둘레에 도포되는 제4 실링부재; 를 더 포함하며, 상기 제4 실링 부재는, 상기 제3 실링부재의 외측 둘레에 도포되는, 이차 전지용 배터리 모듈.
  7. 제 6항에 있어서,
    상기 배터리 모듈은,
    상기 PCB의 상면 둘레를 따라 하방으로 함몰되는 상부케이스 결합홈;
    상기 상부케이스의 상기 PCB공간의 둘레를 따라 하방으로 돌출되는 PCB결합돌기; 를 포함하며,
    상기 제3 실링부재는, 상기 상부케이스 결합홈에 이중 사출로 형성되며,
    상기 제4 실링부재는, 상기 상부케이스 결합홈에 결합되는 상기 PCB결합돌기의 외측에 도포되는, 이차 전지용 배터리 모듈.
  8. 제 7항에 있어서,
    상기 제4 실링부재가, 상기 상부케이스 결합홈 상에 도포되도록 상기 PCB 결합홈의 폭은 상기 PCB 결합돌기의 폭보다 넓게 형성되는, 이차 전지용 배터리 모듈.
