Abstract
The present invention relates to a cooling tower for cooling water that has been used in a thermal process, comprising a wall (14), which delimits an interior chamber (16) of the cooling tower (10), an influent port (30) for introducing water heated in the thermal process into the interior chamber (16) of the cooling tower (10), one or more atomizer units (32) disposed in the interior chamber (16) for the purpose of atomizing the heated water in the interior chamber (16), an inlet port (18) for feeding air into the interior chamber (16), wherein the air interacts with the sprayed water in the interior chamber (16), an outlet port (20) for discharging the air and the evaporated water from the interior chamber (16), and a catch basin (34) for collecting the cooled water, wherein the catch basin (34) comprises an effluent port (36) for discharging the cooled water from the interior chamber (16), wherein a sound insulating means (40) is provided in the interior chamber (16) for the purpose of damping the sound produced during the operation of the cooling tower. The invention further relates to the use of mats composed of PVC webbing or vertically premounted geotextiles and of self-supporting panels (44) having a watertight cladding (46) as sound insulating means (40) in cooling towers (10).
