Abstract

The invention relates to a method and device for detecting elementary particles such as protons, ions, electrons, neutrons, photons or the like, in a detector (1), wherein an electrical field is applied to the detector (1) and wherein a charge pulse is generated in the detector (1) when a particle passes through the detector (1) and every charge pulse is subsequently converted into an electric signal. In order to remove polarisation charges occurring in the detector (1) during operation, a compensating voltage (HV1, HV2) is applied in each case temporarily to one electrode of the detector (1). Thus, it is possible to remove polarisation charges inside the detector (1) in a simple manner and thereby to restore the detector (1) to the original state thereof.
