Description
SECURITY DEVIATOR FOR MULTIPOINT LOCKS
The present invention relates to a security deviator for multipoint locks.
Multipoint locks are a particular type of lock which comprises a central lock proper, to which respective deviators are connected by means of adapted transmission rods.
Deviators are devices provided with a bolt intended to engage detachably in a selvage of the doorjamb that corresponds to the leaf with which said lock is associated. A translation of the rods, which is a consequence of an external action of the user intended for the extraction/retraction of the bolt from the central lock (the rods are connected to the central bolt, following its rule of motion), thus determines the extraction/retraction of the bolt of the deviator connected to it.
It is known to use deviators provided with hook-shaped bolts designed to enter the selvage by hooking into it: this ensures higher security of the closure.
However, this technical solution has the problem of poor mechanical resistance against break-in attempts.
The break-in operations required to force the retraction of a bolt constituted by an oscillating hook are in fact simpler than those required for the retraction of a translating element (classic bolt).
If one is able to grip an edge of the oscillating hook with a tool, it is in fact possible to force its retrograde rotation, whereas with translating bolts the only effective grip point for forcing retraction would be the end, which being inserted deeply in the selvage is difficult to reach.
Moreover, it is very common to use, in leaves and doors, gaskets made of deformable material which are intended to prevent the passage of air and drafts.
If these elements are present, the adoption of deviators with oscillating hook-shaped bolts is substantially prevented, since one necessary
condition for their correct operation is optimum alignment between the deviator and the selvage, an alignment which is often compromised by the elastic pushing action applied by the gaskets.
The aim of the present invention is to solve the problems described above, by proposing a security deviator for multipoint locks that is adapted to hook into the respective selvage, is difficult to break into and complicated to tamper with.
Within the scope of this aim, an object of the invention is to propose a security deviator for multipoint locks which is adapted to work even in case of installation on doors and leaves provided with gaskets for avoiding drafts and passages of air between the leaf (door) and the doorjamb.
Another object of the invention is to propose a security deviator for multipoint locks that has the technical advantages in terms of security against break-in that are typical of a traditional translating bolt and the advantages of a hook-shaped oscillating bolt.
A further object of the invention is to provide a security deviator for multipoint locks which has low costs, is relatively simple to provide in practice and safe in application.
This aim and these and other objects which will become more apparent hereinafter are achieved by a security deviator for multipoint locks of the type comprising a main lock, provided with a case for containing at least one first bolt, which can move between a protruding configuration and a retracted configuration with respect to the surface of said case, controlled by a respective movement element, and at least one rod for connection with a movable element of a deviator of the type comprising a box-like containment body for at least one second bolt, which can move between a protruding configuration and a retracted configuration with respect to the surface of said box-like body, characterized in that the second bolt of said deviator comprises at least one element which translates between a first extracted configuration and a retracted configuration with respect to said
box-like body,- provided with an internal accommodation cavity for an oscillating prong which can move between a first arrangement which is inside said translating element and a second arrangement which protrudes from the contour of said translating element, said translating element and said prong being controlled by a respective interconnection rod.
Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become more apparent from the description of a preferred but not exclusive embodiment of the security deviator for multipoint locks according to the invention, illustrated by way of non-limiting example in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a schematic side view of a multipoint lock provided with security deviators according to the invention;
Figure 2 is a partially sectional schematic side view, taken along a transverse plane, of a security deviator according to the invention in the retracted configuration;
Figure 3 is a partially sectional schematic side view, taken along a transverse plane, of a security deviator according to the invention in a partially extracted configuration;
Figure 4 is a partially sectional schematic side view, taken along a transverse plane, of a security deviator according to the invention in the extracted configuration;
Figure 5 is a partially sectional schematic side view, taken along a transverse plane, of a security deviator according to the invention at the initial step of retraction.
With reference to the figures, the reference numeral 1 generally designates a security deviator for multipoint locks 2.
The multipoint locks 2 that can be provided with the deviator 1 comprise a main lock 3, which is provided with a case 4 for the containment of at least one first bolt 5, which can move between a protruding configuration and a retracted configuration with respect to the surface of
said case, controlled by a respective movement element 6, and a rod 7 for connection with a movable element 8 of a deviator 1 of the type comprising a box-like containment body 9 for at least one second bolt 10.
The second bolt 10 can move between a protruding configuration and a retracted configuration with respect to the surface of the box-like body 9.
With particular reference to the inventive concept of reference for the present invention, the second bolt 10, of the deviator 1, comprises at least one element 11 which translates between a first extracted configuration and a retracted configuration with respect to the box-like body 9.
Said translating element 11 is provided with an internal cavity 12 for accommodating an oscillating prong 13, which can move between a first arrangement inside the translating element 11 and a second arrangement which protrudes from the contour of said translating element 11.
Said translating element 11 and said prong 13 are controlled by the respective interconnection rod 7 by means of the movable element 8.
In practice, upon the rotation of the key, i.e., of the respective movement element 6, the first bolt is extracted from the main lock 3 and the interconnection rods 7 translate and, by operating on the movable element 8 of the at least one deviator 1, cause the exit of the translating element 11 from the box-like body 9 and of the prong 13 from said translating element 11 (extraction of the second bolt 10).
According to a particular constructive solution of unquestionable interest in practice and in application, the translating element 11 of the second bolt 10 has a pair of side walls 14 which converge toward the free end and form a substantially wedge-like shape for the free end of the element 11.
Each wall 14, during entry into the respective selvage (not shown in the accompanying figures), during the extraction of the second bolt 10, constitutes an inclined plane for the sliding of the edge of said selvage: this causes the consequent alignment of the second bolt 10 with the selvage,
even in contrast with elastic means, such as sealing gaskets, arranged between the installation leaf of the de viator 1 and the corresponding jamb.
If gaskets intended to limit the passage of air and drafts are present in the installation wing of the multipoint lock 2 (or in the jamb), they might cause the leaf to remain in a slightly axially offset position with respect to the ideal alignment between the bolts 5 and 10 and the respective selvages.
The converging shape of the walls 14 and therefore the wedge effect produced by them during entry in the respective selvage causes an alignment of the leaf with the selvage and therefore a correct operation of the prongs 13.
It is stressed that the wedge-like shape of the walls 14 is particularly useful not only if there are gaskets but also to ensure a correct alignment even if thermal deformations of the doorjamb, of the leaf and/or of the assembly occur. In the case of aluminum profiles, especially of the thermal break type, the difference in temperature between the internal surface and the external surface (or even just the simple exposure of the external surface to solar radiation) can cause deformations suitable to trigger mechanical tensions among the parts (with possible bending of some parts). Having a bolt 10 with wedge-shaped walls 14 ensures safe and efficient closure alignment of the leaf with the doorjamb even in such deformation conditions caused by a thermal gradient.
It should also be noted that the prong 13 is constituted by a substantially L-shaped lever which is pivoted to the translating element 11 in a portion 16 thereof.
Said lever 15 has a first end 17, which can move from a first arrangement of complete accommodation within the respective translating element 11 to a second configuration of substantially radial protrusion with respect to an edge of said translating element 11.
In the second protruding configuration, the first end 17 enters a cavity of the selvage, hooking into it and thus ensuring higher security with respect
to break-in attempts.
Moreover, the lever 15 is completely concealed within the translating element 11 and thus protected against external actions intended to move, cut and/or break it.
According to a particular constructive solution, the substantially L- shaped lever 15 has a second movable end 18 which is coupled to a pusher
19 of the movable element 8 coupled to the interconnection rod 7.
The portion 16 for pivoting to the translating element 11 is substantially intermediate with respect to the two ends 17 and 18.
It is deemed necessary to illustrate that the pusher 19 comprises a contoured slot 20 for the sliding accommodation of a pin 21.
The second end 18 of the substantially L-shaped lever 15 is pivoted on the pin 21.
Therefore, the movement of the pusher 19 causes a corresponding movement of the end 18 of the lever 15 (due to the presence of the pin 21, which joins them mechanically); the end 18, however, can rotate with respect to the pin 21 and therefore with respect to the slot 20 of the pusher 19, with consequent possible rotation of the lever 15 about its portion 16 for pivoting to the translating element 11.
The security deviator 1 comprises a slider 22 which has a surface which interferes with the pin 21 during its translating stroke in the respective slot 20.
This allows the deviation of the pin 21 toward the bottom of the slot
20 upon a retraction of the pusher 19 that corresponds to a retraction of the second bolt 10.
When the movement of the interconnection rods 7 causes the retraction of the second bolt 10, the pin 21 is thus forced toward the bottom of the slot 20, with consequent retraction of the translating element 11 and a retrograde rotation (toward the configuration for full insertion in said element 1) of the lever 15.
The translating element 11 furthermore comprises at least one internal stroke limiting shoulder 23 for the internal edge 24 of the first end 17 of the substantially L-shaped lever 15 if the lever 15 is in this arrangement inside the translating element 11.
The specific teachings of the present invention also extend to the provision of a multipoint security lock 2 of the type comprising a main lock 3, provided with a case 4 for containing at least one first bolt 5, which can move between a protruding configuration and a retracted configuration with respect to the surface of the case 4, controlled by a respective movement element 6, and at least one rod 7 for connection to the movable element 8 of at least one deviator 1 of the type comprising a box-like containment body 9 for at least one second bolt 10, which can move between a protruding configuration and a retracted configuration with respect to the surface of the box-like body 9.
The at least one second bolt 10 of the deviator 1 comprises at least one element 11 which translates between a first extracted configuration and a retracted configuration with respect to the box-like body 9, provided with an internal cavity 12 for accommodating an oscillating prong 13 which can move between a first arrangement inside the translating element 11 and a second arrangement which protrudes from the contour of the translating element 11.
The translating element 11 and the prong 13, in this case, are controlled by a respective interconnection rod 7.
More specifically, the deviators 1 are at least two, a first deviator 1 arranged above and a second deviator 1 arranged below the central main lock 3.
Advantageously, the present invention solves the problems described above, proposing a security deviator 1 for multipoint locks 2 that is adapted to hook into the respective selvage, making any break-in and tampering attempts difficult.
Efficiently, the security deviator 1 is also suitable for working in case of installation on doors and leaves provided with gaskets for preventing drafts and passages of air between the leaf (door) and the doorjamb.
The particular shape with converging walls 14 of the translating element 11 in fact allows it to act as an alignment wedge during entry into the respective selvage, contributing to the compression (if necessary) of any gaskets that are present.
Conveniently, the deviator 1 has the technical advantages, in terms of security against break-ins, that are typical of a translating traditional bolt and the advantages of a hook-shaped oscillating bolt.
This is due to the fact that it comprises, in a single component, both types of bolt, suitably protected against break-ins.
Positively, the deviator 1 has low costs and is relatively simple to provide in practice and safe in application.
The invention thus conceived is susceptible of numerous modifications and variations, all of which are within the scope of the appended claims; all the details may furthermore be replaced with other technically equivalent elements.
In the exemplary embodiments shown, individual characteristics, given in relation to specific examples, may actually be interchanged with other different characteristics that exist in other exemplary embodiments.
In practice, the materials used, as well as the dimensions, may be any according to requirements and to the state of the art.
Where technical features mentioned in any claim are followed by reference signs, those reference signs have been included for the sole purpose of increasing the intelligibility of the claims and accordingly such reference signs do not have any limiting effect on the interpretation of each element identified by way of example by such reference signs.
