- a low-end mobile phone refers to a device that can make and receive telephone calls over a radio link while moving around a geographic area by connecting to a cellular network.
- "low-end" mobile phones lack a web browser or other functionality to enable Internet protocol suite communications (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, email, etc.). In other words, low-end mobile phones do not support Internet connectivity in the traditional sense.
- "low-end" mobile phones may include features and/or functionality such as a digital camera, Bluetooth connectivity, games, alarm clock, or other applications that do not use Internet protocol suite communications.
- Mobile cloud printing solution may consist of smartphones with printing apps, operating system printing capabilities, or email-based printing services, relying on server-side resources to render content and deliver it to printers. Handling and transmitting this content makes use of computing, storage, and networking capabilities present in this class of devices (e.g., smartphones, tablets, notebooks, desktop computers, etc.). The relative lack of computing capabilities on low-end mobile phones directly impacts the ability of applying web-based (e.g., smartphone) printing solutions.
- web-based e.g., smartphone
- low-end phones may be used to perform a variety of tasks ' , such as paying bills or buying train tickets. These transactions with business systems often occur via text messaging (e.g. Short Message Service or SMS) and/or voice calls. As described herein, these business transactions and other phone interactions are leveraged to provide a printing solution to low-end mobile phones.
- a user calls a voice service (e.g., Interactive Voice Response or IVR) or sends a text message to perform a business transaction or request information (e.g. , paying a bill, buying a movie ticket, requesting an account statement, etc.). - a mobile phone gateway 212 receives phone interactions from a low-end mobile phone 240. These phone interactions are received via a telephony signaling protocol (e.g., Signaling System No. 7 (SS7) or other suitable protocol). Examples of phone interactions over a telephony signaling protocol include USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) sessions, text messaging (e.g., Short Message Service or SMS), voice communication (e.g., IVR), or touch tone phone inputs on the phone keypad.

- mobile phone gateway 212 converts the low-end mobile phone interactions to web interactions and/or instructions.
- web interactions could be interactions typically performed by a user on a web browser or they could be instructions performed by a web service to interact with content hosted on the World Wide Web.

- the appropriate network printer e.g., the printer from which the request was received or other printer identified in the print request.
