Description

A toy system and a toy article
Technical field The present invention relates to a toy system according to the introductory portion of the accompanying claim 1.
The present invention also relates to a toy article according to the accompanying claim 1 1.
Background
Previously known since long is a toy system, known under the name Meccano®, the system comprising, preferably, metallic sheet metal components like plates, beams etc provided with holes and arranged to be built together by means of screws and nuts, the system further being intended to comprise other components, machine elements, e. g. axes, wheels, gear-wheels etc, the components being reusable. This prior art is described in GB 190100587. A problem with this known system is that the sheet metal components are flat and thin, which implies that the constructions built, e. g. a car, a motorcycle etc., has the function of the intended construction but it does not really look like the real thing.
An object of the present invention is to provide a solution to, primarily, the problem de- scribed.
Summary of the invention
This and further objects of the present invention are obtained with a toy system accord- ing to the accompanying claims 1 and 11.
Further advantages are obtained by what is specified in the accompanying dependent claims. Brief descriptions of the drawings
A better understanding of the present invention will be had by reading the following detailed description in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which like details are designated with like designations and in which
- Fig. 1 diagrammatically shows a system element with an applied additional element of a first embodiment of a portion of a system according to the present invention seen towards the main extension plane of the system element;
- Fig. 2 shows a section A-A of fig. 1 ;
- Fig. 3 shows the system portion of fig. 1 seen from the left in fig. 1 ;
- Fig. 4 shows the element of fig.l seen from above in fig.1 ;
- Fig. 5 shows a section B-B of fig. 4 seen from above in fig. 4
- Fig. 6 shows the element of fig. 4 seen from above in fig.4 and
- Fig. 7 shows two system elements connected by a bolt joint and seen in their width direction.
Detailed description of preferred embodiments
A toy system according to the present invention comprises at least one system element 10, fig. 1 and 2, having at least one flat portion 11 with at least one mounting hole 12 running substantially perpendicular to the main extension plane of said flat portion. The system elements of the system may be of various length and are, generally of a so called Meccano® type. Thus, said system elements are preferably metallic and made of sheet metal. Said at least one hole is arranged for receiving a joint element, normally a screw of a bolt joint 13, fig. 7, for fastening and, thus adding, another system element 14, fig. 7, e. g. an angle element, having a corresponding mounting hole, by means of a nut of the bolt joint. Preferably, system elements are provided having multiple mounting holes 12 equidistantly distributed along the system element center line.
Preferably the mounting holes are of a predetermined shape. Preferably, said mounting holes are circular of a predetermined diameter or, for oblong holes, width, and preferably one and the same diameter or width.
Further, according to the present invention, the toy system comprises at least one additional element 15, fig 1-6, comprising at least one protrusion 16 arranged to fit in a mounting hole 12 of a system element for fastening said additional element, said addi- tional element being configured to provide a shape differing, in many applications considerably, from the system element shape to the combination of the system element and the additional element as can be seen in the example shown in fig. 1-6, an additional element 15 being applied to a system element 10 as can be seen in fig. 1.
According to the present invention additional elements provide a cover to a system element construction, the additional elements providing, primarily, a more real thing shape and appearance to a built article. Thus, in a toy system according to the present invention a framework for a desired toy article or object, e. g. a car or a motorcycle, is intended to be built of said system elements. The framework is then intended to, to a desired extent, be combined, e. g. covered, with additional elements to provide a more real thing, e. g. car like or motorcycle like, shape and appearance to the desired toy article. Other examples of articles or ob- jects to be built by means of a system according to the present invention are other types of vehicles, fantasy characters, animals, dinosaurs or any other desired object.
Preferably, additional elements of the system are made of plastic. According to the present invention the additional elements are, thus, preferably configured to add a consider- ably more real thing shape and appearance to an article comprising a framework comprising said system elements, plastic offering a possibility to produce even complicated shapes for the additional elements to a comparatively low cost. The additional elements of plastic offer extensive possibilities to add very detailed shape or appearance to the desired article or object to be built to a comparatively low cost. Thus, even such details that differ between different manufacturing years for a certain car model may easily be provided by means of said additional elements.
According to preferred embodiments additional elements are provided comprising more than one protrusion arranged to co-act with multiple mounting holes of a system ele- ment. According to preferred embodiments said protrusions are arranged mutually equi- distantly and to correspond to equidistantly arranged holes of a system element for co- action.
Further, according to preferred embodiments, fig. 3-6, said additional elements comprise at least one protrusion on one planar side 17 and an element portion 18 on the opposite side, said element portion being designed to provide said shape differing from the sys- tern element shape to said combination of the system element and the additional element.
According to preferred embodiments said additional elements are of a color adapted to the article to be constructed or built. For the same purpose said additional elements comprise at desired portions patterns or ornaments.
Above, the function of the toy system according to the present invention should to a considerable and sufficient extent have been made clear.
Further, the present invention has been described in association with examples and preferred embodiments. Of course further examples and embodiments may of course be imagined without departing from the basic inventive idea. Thus, there are a number of system elements of Meccano® type to be used for constructing article frameworks and article functions, such elements being wheels, gearwheels, shafts etc. Traditionally such elements are metallic but such elements may be made of plastic and the system according to the present invention may comprise metallic system elements as well as system elements made of plastic.
Said additional elements are according to preferred embodiments LEGO®-like and may be configured substantially like LEGO® parts and not compact but to a great extent hollow to keep the amount of plastic down. Thus, the protrusions may be arranged on an inner framework of said additional elements.
Further, said additional elements may be made of another material than plastic, e.g. a rubber based material, such as neoprene
According to the general idea according to the present invention the elements of the toy system are preferably reusable and releasable to be assembled into new configurations.
Thus, the invention should not be considered to be limited to the embodiments shown but may be varied within the scope of the accompanying claims.
