Abstract

The invention relates to the field of electrical engineering and the electric power industry and can be used for determining the location of a fault on a high-voltage or ultra-high-voltage three-phase power transmission line. The technical result is an increase in the sensitivity and accuracy of fault detection on power transmission lines as a result of more accurate isolation of the front of a transient fault from the aggregate of noises subject to the normal law of distribution. The technical result is achieved in that the currents and voltages are measured at each end of the line, a fault signal is isolated from the measured currents and voltages, the coefficient of kurtosis of the isolated fault signal is calculated in a sliding time window, the calculated coefficient of kurtosis is compared with a threshold value, the time at which the threshold is exceeded is recorded with the aid of a satellite navigation system, and the distance to the fault is calculated according to the difference in the times at which the threshold is exceeded, as recorded at the ends of the line. The method is realized with the aid of a device which comprises phase current and phase voltage meters, the outputs of which are connected to a unit (1) for isolating a fault signal from the measured phase currents and voltages. A unit (2) for calculating the coefficient of kurtosis of the isolated fault signal in a sliding time window is connected to the output of unit (1). One input of a comparator (3) for comparing the coefficient of kurtosis calculated by unit (2) with a threshold value set at the other input of the comparator (3) by a unit (4) is connected to the output of unit (2). The output of the comparator (3) is connected to the capture input of a timer (5). The output of a unit (6) for receiving clock pulses from a satellite navigation system is connected to the inverting input of the timer (5). The output of the timer (5) is connected to a communication unit (7) which transmits to a dispatcher desk the time at which the front of a transient fault arrives at the corresponding end of the power transmission line.
