Abstract

A rotary internal combustion engine comprises a pair of housings (100, 200), a rotor (300) and a plurality of vane assemblies (400, 500, 600, 700). Each housing has an axial sinusoidal profiled circular groove on its inner side surface. The rotor has a plurality of axial through holes (301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306, 307, 308). The vanes of the vane assemblies are slidably mounted in the hole and slide and oscillate axially on the housings. By providing axially moving vanes instead of radial vanes, the rotary internal combustion engine can minimize the effect of centrifugal force and minimize excessive friction, rubbing, warping, bending of vanes.
