Description

METHOD OF PROVIDING A SCRATCH-ABLE PRINTED MATTER
TECHNICAL FIELD [0001] The present invention relates to a method of providing a scratch-able printed matter. More particularly, the invention relates to a method of providing a scratch-able printed matter on a printable material having a substrate bearing a first printed matter. The invention has application in diverse industries requiring printable material with such scratch-able printed matter and some examples of relevant fields cover lottery tickets, contest tickets, tickets of draws and prizes, banking pins and codes, fun tickets for kids, scratch and win tickets, recharge coupons and so on.
BACKGROUND ART [0002] The prior art describes various techniques to provide such scratch-able printed matter. US Patent no. 5803504 titled "Multicolor Overprinting of Scratch-Off Lottery Tickets" describes a method of producing lottery tickets using an overprinting layer comprising an image obtained from a design in which four/ six/ seven colors in the design have been separated into screened half tone images of each color and then said images are superimposed in separate printing steps. This invention uses one or more colored elastomer layers to form the scratch off layer.
[0003] Known printing mechanisms use one or more elastomers, which may be of different types. Generally the kind of elastomer used in printing processes is Polyisoprene or the Liquid Isoprene rubber (LIR). LIR acts as the reactive plasticizer. In terms of its functions as a plasticizer, LIR is the rubber with the highest molecular weight which has the plasticizing function. In terms of its function as a reactive, it is vulcanisable. It has excellent adhesive properties and is also abrasion resistant. Polyisoprene has however the disadvantage of being unstable to heat and oxygen because it does not contain any impurities such as proteins, phosphorous, amines and the alike. Also, human skin when exposed to polyisoprene suffers from irritation and it causes allergic skin reaction if absorbed by the skin. When stored at elevated temperatures, polyisoprene releases isoprene, which reacts with high levels of nitric oxides in the industrial environment and contributes to the formation of topospheric ozone. Topospheric ozone is one of the leading atmospheric pollutants.
[0004] The problem to be solved is to provide a scratch-able printed matter on a printable material without use of elastomersand the problem is solved by a method of providing a scratch-able printed matter on a printable material having a substrate bearing a first printed matter, comprising the steps of providing said first printed matter on said substrate; covering said first matter with a first layer, wherein said first layer comprises at least one layer of release varnish; applying a second layer to said first layer; wherein said second layer comprises at least one layer of any one of ink, varnish or coating or a combination thereof; applying a third layer over said second layer to conceal said first printed matter, wherein said third layer comprises at least one layer of any one of ink, foil or OVD (Optical variable device print) or a combination thereof; and applying a fourth layer of graphic design on said third layer, wherein said fourth layer comprises of an image or a line work or a combination thereof; whereby on application of said four layers to said printable material, a scratch-able printed matter is produced and when a user scratches said scratch-able printer matter, said first printed matter at the substrate becomes visible to the user.
