Abstract

A process for producing a porous ceramic (1) comprising zirconium oxide, cerium oxide and/or hafnium oxide and also a correspondingly produced ceramic (1) are provided. In this process, zirconium, cerium and/or hafnium are melted together with at least one more noble metal and at least one element having an affinity for oxygen to form a melt, the melt is cooled with solidification, the solidified melt is subjected to an internal oxidation in which zirconium, cerium and/or hafnium and also the at least one element having an affinity for oxygen oxidize, and the more noble metal is finally leached out so as to leave the porous ceramic.
