Definitions

  • the present invention refers to a method of photodepilation, especially designed to apply this technique in people with tanned skin.
  • Photodepilation is a technique that is performed with applications of intense pulsed light on the skin, also known as IPL (intense pulsed light). The light is selectively absorbed by the hair follicles destroying the reproductive capacity of the hair. Photoepilation is a system similar to that of the laser beam to end hair that guarantees such long-lasting results, which can be considered almost definitive.
  • photodepilation destroys the hair follicle by means of selective absorption by it and, in particular, of its melanin of a certain wavelength that is emitted by an intense pulsed light generator ( ⁇ PL). In this way the light energy is transformed into thermal energy and this resulting heat is responsible for damaging the hair follicle.
  • ⁇ PL intense pulsed light generator
  • the melanin present in the hair shaft, follicular epithelium and the matrix effectively absorbs the laser energy of these wavelengths. But the Melanin present in the epidermis competes for light energy as it passes through this structure on its way to the hair follicle.
  • the use of cooling systems ice, gel, cryogen, sapphire or metals limits the epidermal thermal damage caused by the competitive absorption of epidermal melanin and allows higher and more efficient energy densities to be delivered.
  • the current intense pulsed light (IPL) equipment emits a mixed light composed of many types of photons that travel at multiple wavelengths in a range of 590nm. up to 1200nm ..
  • the behavior of the light is similar to that of a bulb, the light moves in all directions and it is the equipment that controls that only a certain type of lights pass depending on the filter that is placed at the exit of the light.
  • the exposure time of the follicle to light is normally of the order of 10 ms., Regardless of the distance between the center and the epithelial sheath of the hair, this time facilitates that the time of irreversible thermal damage is the optimum to achieve the best results.
  • a single pulse or shot is emitted on the treated area, which has been indicated above, has a duration of 10ms.
  • the objective of the present invention is the implementation of a working methodology with photodepilation equipment that allows the use of this technique in tanned skins, based on the use of two components:
  • the light-emitting device also called the slang handle, which has been commonly used has wide wavelengths in photodepilation treatments. However, it has been shown that the sector of spectra that has the greatest influence in the process of destruction of hair cells is that which is concentrated between 700 and 900 nm; consequently a manipule has been designed that only works this frequency gamma to be used in the depilation of tanned skins. In the methodology of the present invention it is considered that these wavelengths are the most suitable to allow the absorption of light by melanin in a more optimal way and at the same time allow to reach sufficient depth for the light to reach to the hair follicle.
  • the exposure time of the follicle to light has been increased by 10 ms. at 50 ms., regardless of the distance between the center and the epithelial sheath of the hair, these times facilitate that the time of irreversible thermal damage is the optimum to achieve the best results.
  • Another factor that has been substantially modified is increasing the amount of pulses emitted. It has gone from emitting a single pulse to a multi-pulse system, in which in a burst a number of shots between 3 and 7 shots. The overlap of consecutive shots allows us to obtain two very important effects:
  • the follicle is subjected to consecutive discharges. The temperature rises and more cells are destroyed.
  • Figure 1 shows a scheme of the spectrum of light emitted following the method of the invention.
  • Figure 2 depicts a sapphire crystal that constitutes a light filter or lens with a 700-900 nm coating.
  • the photodepilation method of tanned and / or dark skins is directed to the realization of these treatments in people with skin phototypes from I to V or who have undergone recent tanning that do not cause damage or skin irritation
  • This method uses a sapphire lens (1) adaptable to photodepilation handles, with a special coating (2) that only allows the emission of light in the range between 700 and 900 nm. (see figure 1).
  • this lens installed in the applicable photodepilation applicators or handles, in combination with the establishment of new shooting duration parameters and the multiple number of shots, allows to obtain better results and in a much safer way, as it has been He was able to test on freshly tanned and / or dark skin undergoing photodepilation treatments with intense pulsed light equipment.
  • Exposure time of light on the skin 35 ms.
  • the established time between pulses is 0.7 sec., So the number of pulses is a function of the exposure time of the light on the skin.
  • Efficacy of the treatment Thanks to the implantation of a multiple pulse system and the ability of the skin to get rid of excess temperature, the follicles are subjected to a greater amount of energy. The amount of hair removed in each session is greater and the results are much more lasting.
