- Such a video coding standard is, for example, H.264. ITU-T standard indicated by 26x and ISO / IEC standard indicated by MPEG-x.
- the latest and most advanced video coding standard is currently H.264. H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC standard (see Non-Patent Document 1).
- the coding approach that underlies most of these standards is based on predictive coding including the main steps shown in (a) to (d) below.
- A The video frame is divided into pixel blocks in order to compress the data of each video frame at the block level.
- B Identify temporal and spatial redundancy by predicting individual blocks from previously encoded video data.
- C The specified redundancy is removed by subtracting the prediction data from the video data.
- D The remaining data (residual block) is compressed by Fourier transform, quantization, and entropy coding.
- the current video coding standard differs in the prediction mode used to predict each macroblock.
- Most video coding standards use motion detection and motion compensation (interframe prediction) to predict video data from previously encoded and decoded frames.
- the block data may be extrapolated from adjacent blocks in the same frame (intra frame prediction).
- the image encoding apparatus uses a coded picture in front of or behind the encoding target picture in the display order as a reference picture. Then, the image encoding device derives a motion vector of each block by performing motion detection of the encoding target picture with respect to the reference picture. The image encoding device generates predicted image data by performing motion compensation using the motion vector derived as described above. Then, the image encoding device reduces redundancy in the time direction by encoding the difference between the generated predicted image data and the image data of the encoding target picture.
- Non-Patent Document 2 An image coding apparatus that uses a predicted motion vector designation mode generates a plurality of motion vector predictor candidates based on a coded block adjacent to a coding target block. Then, the image encoding device selects a motion vector predictor from among the plurality of generated candidates.
- the image encoding device encodes the motion vector of the encoding target block using the selected prediction motion vector. Specifically, the difference vector between the motion vector of the encoding target block and the selected prediction motion vector is variable-length encoded.
- the image coding apparatus adds the index of the selected motion vector predictor (also referred to as a motion vector predictor index) to the encoded bitstream.
- the image decoding apparatus can select the same prediction motion vector as the prediction motion vector selected at the time of encoding at the time of decoding.
- FIG. 1 is a block diagram showing an example of the configuration of a conventional variable length variable vector decoding method.
- FIG. 2 is a flowchart showing an example of an operation flow of a conventional variable vector variable-length decoding method.
- the difference vector value is binarized to form a binarized string.
- the binarized sequence is divided into a flag indicating a positive / negative sign, a prefix portion corresponding to a portion below the TH value (threshold value) of the absolute value of the difference vector, and a suffix portion corresponding to a portion above the TH value (see FIG. 6).
- the sign is positive or negative.
- the flag indicating the positive / negative sign is 0.
- the flag indicating the sign is 1.
- the TH value is 8.
- the prefix portion corresponds to a portion constituting 8 or less in the binary sequence of the absolute value of the difference vector.
- the suffix part corresponds to a part constituting 9 or more in the binary sequence of the absolute value of the difference vector.
- the arithmetic coding / decoding method is different for each of the positive / negative sign flag, prefix part and suffix part.
- the arithmetic coding / decoding method will be described later.
- the difference vector variable length decoding unit A00 acquires the bit stream BS including the difference vector information, and inputs it to the difference vector restoration control unit A01 and the difference vector 0 determination unit A02.
- the difference vector restoration control unit A01 takes in the X component (horizontal component) and the Y component (vertical component) of the acquired difference vector information in order, and whether the difference vector information during the decoding process is the X component or the Y component. Manage how.
- the difference vector 0 determination unit A02 decodes a flag indicating whether or not the X component of the difference vector is 0 from the acquired bit stream (step SB00). If the X component of the difference vector is not 0 (NO in step SB01), the difference vector prefix part decoding unit A03 decodes the prefix part of the X component of the difference vector (step SB02). Next, if there is a suffix part of the X component of the difference vector (YES in step SB03), the difference vector suffix part decoding unit A04 decodes the suffix part of the X component of the difference vector (SB04). If there is no suffix part (NO in SB03), the suffix decoding process is skipped. Next, the difference vector plus / minus code decoding unit A05 decodes the sign of the X component of the difference vector, and the difference vector restoration unit A06 restores and sets the X component of the difference vector (SB05).
- the difference vector restoration unit A06 sets 0 to the X component of the difference vector (step SB06).
- the difference vector restoration control unit A01 switches to the side indicating that the switch A07 is the X component (the upper terminal in FIG. 1), and outputs the X component of the difference vector.
- step SB07 is performed for step SB00
- step SB08 is performed for step SB01
- step SB09 is performed for step SB02
- step SB10 is performed for step SB03
- step SB11 is performed for step SB04
- step SB12 is performed for step SB05.
- step SB13 corresponds to step SB06. Since these operations are the same except that the components are different, detailed description thereof is omitted.

- the difference vector 0 determination unit 102 decodes a flag indicating whether or not the Y component of the difference vector is 0 (S204). If the Y component of the difference vector is not 0 (NO in S205), the difference vector prefix part decoding unit 103 decodes the prefix part of the Y component of the difference vector (S206). On the other hand, when the Y component of the difference vector is 0 (YES in S205), 0 is set in the Y component of the difference vector (S207). Abstract
