Description

PRESS-STUD OR SNAP FASTENER, PARTICULARLY FOR ITEMS OF CLOTHING AND THE LIKE
The present invention relates to a press-stud, or snap fastener, particularly for items of clothing and the like.
Nowadays press-studs or snap fasteners are increasingly common, and appreciated both in clothing and for application on other articles, for example on leather goods, purses, shoulder bags, and in various other sectors.
Generally a press-stud, or snap fastener, comprises a first female annular element and a second male annular element, each one of which is provided with a respective central hole the edge of which provides engagement for a corresponding rivet for fixing to a corresponding flap of an article with which the press-stud is associated.
The first annular element has a central flat portion, for contact with the flap to which it is fixed, and an outer portion, substantially C-shaped in cross-section, which forms a channel which is open internally in a radial direction and accommodates an elastic annular body, for reversible locking, which is designed to engage a central collar of the second annular element, surrounding it substantially in an undercut arrangement.
The second annular element is shaped so as to have an opening for the passage of the first annular element, and an annular seat for the same first annular element.
Such press-studs, although known and appreciated, show limitations when, while closed, they are pushed or pulled in directions transverse to the direction of mutual engagement, a situation that arises for example when such press-studs are adapted to close a shirt, or a jacket, and the overlapped closing flaps, joined to each other by such press-studs, are improperly tensioned or pulled in a direction that is transverse with respect to the direction of engagement.
Generally what occurs in these cases is that the first annular element can be released from the second annular element, thus causing the unwanted opening, for example, of the jacket.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a press-stud that, with respect to conventional press-studs, is capable of ensuring a hold even in a direction that is substantially perpendicular with respect to the direction of engagement.
Within this aim, an object of the invention is to provide a press-stud that is not however less easy to open with the usual methods of opening.
Another object of the invention is to provide a press-stud with a performance and lifetime which are not inferior to those of conventional press-studs.
A further object of the invention is to provide a press-stud that can be fixed to an item of clothing or other article with the usual conventional methods and tools.
Another object of the invention is to provide a press-stud that can be made using known systems and technologies.
This aim and these and other objects which will become more evident hereinafter are achieved by a press-stud, or snap fastener, particularly for items of clothing and the like, comprising a first female annular element and a second male annular element, each one of which is provided with a respective central hole the edge of which provides engagement for a corresponding fixing rivet, said first annular element having a central flat portion, for contact with a flap of an article to which it is fixed, and an outer portion, substantially C-shaped in cross-section, which forms a channel, which is open internally in a radial direction and accommodates an elastic annular body, for reversible locking, which is designed to engage a central collar of said second annular element, surrounding it substantially in an undercut arrangement, said central collar being contoured with the outer diameter of its lower base smaller than the outer diameter of its opposite end part, said second annular element being shaped so as to have an opening for the passage of said first annular element, and an annular seat for said same first annular element, characterized in that the annular perimetric edge of said opening extends radially so as to form an extraction-preventing rim, which is adapted to prevent the escape of said first annular element from its seat in the second annular element, when said first annular element is arranged below said extraction-preventing rim with a corresponding outer perimetric annular portion thereof.
Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become more apparent from the description of two preferred, but not exclusive, embodiments of the press-stud according to the invention, illustrated by way of non-limiting example in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a sectional side view of a press-stud according to the invention in a first embodiment thereof, in the closed configuration;
Figure 2 is the same sectional view as in Figure 1 with the press-stud strained along a direction that is perpendicular to the direction of engagement;
Figure 3 is a sectional side view of two details of the press-stud according to the invention in the first embodiment thereof, separated from each other;
Figure 4 is a sectional side view of a press-stud according to the invention in a second embodiment thereof, in the open configuration;
Figure 5 is a sectional side view of two details of the press-stud according to the invention in the second embodiment thereof, coupled to each other;
Figure 6 is a sectional side view of the press-stud according to the invention in the second embodiment thereof, in a configuration determined by a stress which is substantially perpendicular to the direction of engagement, i.e. of closing, for the press-stud.
With reference to the figures, a first embodiment of a press-stud, or snap fastener, particularly for items of clothing and the like, according to the invention, is generally designated with the reference numeral 10.
The press-stud 10 comprises a first female annular element 11 and a second male annular element 12, each one of which is provided with a respective central hole 13 and 14 the edge of which provides engagement for a corresponding rivet 15 and 16 for fixing to a flap, respectively LI and L2 in Figures 1 and 2, of an item of clothing or of another article of which the press-stud 10 is a part.
The first annular element 11 has a central flat portion 17, for contact with the flap LI to which it is fixed, and an outer portion 18, substantially C-shaped in cross-section, which forms a channel 19, which is open internally in a radial direction and accommodates an elastic annular body 20, for reversible locking.
The elastic annular body 20 is constituted, in such first embodiment of the invention, by a broken metallic ring.
The elastic annular body 20 is designed to engage a central collar 21 of the second annular element 12, surrounding it substantially in an undercut arrangement.
The central collar 21 is, in fact, shaped with the outer diameter of its lower portion 22 smaller than the outer diameter of its opposite end portion 23.
The second annular element 12 is shaped so as to have an opening 24 for the passage of the first annular element 11, and an annular seat 25 for the same first annular element 11.
The particularity of the invention lies in the fact that the annular perimetric edge 26 of the opening 24 extends radially so as to form an extraction-preventing rim 27, which is adapted to prevent the release of the first annular element 11 from its seat 25 in the second annular element 12, when the first annular element 11 is arranged below the extraction- preventing rim 27 with a corresponding outer perimetric annular portion 28 thereof. In particular, in such first embodiment, the second annular element 12 comprises an outer jacket 29, clearly visible in Figure 3, with a profile that is substantially C-shaped in cross-section.
A first radially extending annular portion of such outer jacket 29 defines the extraction-preventing rim 27.
The second opposite radial annular portion 30 forms a resting element for the edge 31 of a bottom 32 which is locked thereat by an annular locking insert 33, with a profile that is L-shaped in cross-section, arranged inside the outer jacket 29 so as to press the edge 31 of the bottom 32.
The bottom 32 has a region 34 in low-relief with respect to its edge
31, which defines, with the facing portion of the L-shaped insert, an annular interspace 35.
The radial dimensions of such annular interspace 35 are such as to allow an annular tab 36, which extends radially outward from the base 22 of the collar 21 , to perform a radial translational motion thereat, when the collar 21 is entrained in translational motion by the first annular element 11 , which is in turn moved, by means of the rivet 15, by the traction of the two flaps LI and L2 in opposite transverse directions.
Figure 2 clearly shows, by way of example, the first annular element 11 translated laterally with its outer perimetric annular portion 28 below the extraction-preventing rim 27.
In such first embodiment of the invention, which should be understood to be illustrative of the invention, such outer perimetric annular portion 28 is an outer edge of the outer portion 18 of the first annular element 11 , rounded off by the minimum necessary in order to not incur the risk of slipping from the configuration of engagement below the rim 27, and thus in order to maximize the surface of the perimetric portion 28 available to face the rim 27.
Figure 2 also shows how, with the first annular element 11 in such position, the collar 21 of the second annular element 12 is also shifted, entrained in the same direction by the annular body 20 of the first annular element 11.
Figures 4 to 6 show a press-stud according to the invention in a second embodiment thereof, also intended to be by way of non-limiting example of the invention; such press-stud in the second embodiment is generally designated with the reference numeral 110.
The press-stud 110 comprises a first female annular element 111 and a second male annular element 112, each one of which is provided with a respective central hole 113 and 114 the edge of which provides engagement for a corresponding rivet 115 and 116 for fixing to a flap of an item of clothing or of another article of which the press-stud 110 is a part.
In such second embodiment, an elastic annular body 120, for reversible locking is present.
The elastic annular body 120 is constituted, in such second embodiment of the invention, by a polygonal ring, for example hexagonal, made of plastic material.
The elastic annular body 120 is designed to engage the central collar 121 of the second annular element 112, surrounding it substantially in an undercut arrangement.
Differently from the first embodiment described above, in such second embodiment of the press-stud according to the invention 110, the second annular element 112 comprises an outer jacket 129, with a profile that is substantially C-shaped in cross-section, with a first radially extending annular portion thereof which forms the extraction-preventing rim 127, and with the second opposite radial annular portion 130 folded so as to pinch the edge 131 of the bottom 132, which is no longer locked thereat by an annular locking insert 33 but by the same folded annular portion 130.
The collar 121 is integral with the bottom 132, and thus is fixed with respect to the outer jacket 129.
In such second embodiment, there is play between the elastic annular body 120 and the channel 119 in which it is accommodated.
This ensures that upon the translational motion of the flap LI with respect to the flap L2 (see Figure 6), the contoured body 111a of the first annular element 111 moves, entrained by the rivet 115, but not the elastic annular body 120, which remains in its central position of engagement with the collar 121.
Similarly to the first embodiment, the annular perimetric edge 126 of the opening 124 extends radially so as to form the extraction-preventing rim 127, which is adapted to prevent the release of the first annular element 111 from its seat 125 in the second annular element 112, when the first annular element 111 is arranged below the extraction-preventing rim 127 with a corresponding outer perimetric annular portion 128 thereof.
Both in the first embodiment described above and in the second embodiment of the press-stud according to the invention, the extraction- preventing rim 27 and 127 prevents the first annular element 11 and 111, entrained in a radial direction and having reached the stroke limit within its seat 25 and 125, from lifting in the direction of decoupling thus causing the disengagement of the elastic annular body 20 and 120 from the collar 21 and 121 of the second annular element 12 and 112.
In practice it has been found that the invention fully achieves the intended aim and objects.
In particular, with the invention a press-stud is provided that, with respect to conventional press-studs, is capable of ensuring a hold even in a direction that is substantially perpendicular with respect to the direction of engagement.
Moreover, with the invention a press-stud is provided that is not however less easy to open with the usual methods of opening.
Furthermore, with the invention a press-stud is provided with a performance and lifetime that are not inferior to those of conventional press- studs. Moreover, with the invention a press-stud is provided that can be fixed to an item of clothing or other article with the usual conventional methods and tools.
Last but not least, with the invention a press-stud is provided that can be made using known systems and technologies.
The invention thus conceived is susceptible of numerous modifications and variations, all of which are within the scope of the appended claims. Moreover, all the details may be substituted by other, technically equivalent elements.
In practice the materials employed, and the contingent dimensions and shapes, may be any according to requirements and to the state of the art.
