Abstract

The invention relates to a rotary piston engine, comprising a housing that has a substantially trochoidal cut-out. At least one rotary piston is arranged rotatably on an eccentric shaft in said cut-out. Viewed in the axial direction of the eccentric shaft, the housing is delimited by at least one side plate. Said side plate has a central bore that accommodates the eccentric shaft. At least one sealing device is provided on at least one end face. Said sealing device slides on the inner surface of said side plate during operation. A plurality of side plate grooves are provided on the inner surface of the side plate. Said side plate grooves run substantially helically from an outer region of the side plate toward the central bore. Piston points are located opposite the side plate grooves on the rotary piston. The projection of the speed vector of the piston point on the tangent of the course of the side plate groove in said piston point has a radially inward directed component. A radially inward directed fluid flow is achieved by a movement of the piston in cooperation with the side plate grooves in a lubricant present between the rotary piston and the side plate, and thus the sealing action of the sealing device is improved.
