Abstract
La présente invention se rapporte à un dispositif d'affichage à cristaux liquides qui peut réduire les coûts, présente une excellente productivité et peut également obtenir un rapport de contraste élevé dans une large plage d'angles de vision. Selon la présente invention, le dispositif d'affichage à cristaux liquides est pourvu, dans l'ordre suivant : d'un premier polariseur; d'une première couche biréfringente de second type (nx < ny ≤ nz); d'une première plaque λ/4 (nx > ny ≥ nz); d'une cellule à cristaux liquides; d'une seconde plaque λ/4 qui présente un coefficient Nz qui est sensiblement similaire à celui de la première plaque λ/4; d'une seconde couche biréfringente de second type; et d'un second polariseur. L'axe lent en plan de la première plaque λ/4 forme un angle sensiblement de 45° par rapport à l'axe d'absorption du premier polariseur. L'axe lent en plan de la seconde plaque λ/4 est sensiblement perpendiculaire à l'axe lent en plan de la première plaque λ/4. L'axe d'absorption du second polariseur est sensiblement perpendiculaire à l'axe d'absorption du premier polariseur. L'axe lent en plan de la première couche biréfringente de second type est sensiblement perpendiculaire à l'axe d'absorption du premier polariseur. L'axe lent en plan de la seconde couche biréfringente de second type est sensiblement perpendiculaire à l'axe d'absorption du second polariseur. Les molécules de cristaux liquides dans une couche de cristaux liquides sont orientées sensiblement de façon verticale à une surface de substrat. Ainsi, un affichage noir est réalisé.
