Abstract
A vertical axis wind turbine comprises a rotor built from curved fabric-covered blades on top of a mast which is hinged at the base. The rotor drives a vertical shaft which is coupled to an electricity generator at ground level. The mast is supported by stays which connect to ground anchors around the base and can be used in the raising and lowering of the mast.
