Abstract

The dental drill guide is an apparatus for drilling parallel bores in jawbone for insertion of dental implants. The drill guide of present invention comprise an articulated arm made up of a plurality of links pivotally connected to each other, and wherein said links have a structure which allows rotation of said link.

Description

DENTAL DRILL GUIDE
FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a dental device that functions to assist in inserting implants in the jaw and in placing implants parallel with each other or parallel with a non-implant appliance supported in the mouth.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Implants are now commonly used for providing anchor points in the jaw to which supports are made for a single tooth, for multiple teeth, for bridges and/or for prosthetic devices. If more than one implant is to be installed in the jaw or if implants are to be used in combination with existing non-implant appliances, it is highly desirable that all the implants be parallel with each other. This parallelism makes for precise and uniform angulation of implants in the jaw and also provides precise abutments in anchor teeth for bridges and the like.
Several attempts in have been made in the prior art for obtaining a paralleling device. For example a device consisting of two arms, wherein one arm is attachable to an anchor means whereas the other arm is used to guide the burr for drilling the necessary holes. The burr is typically led through a bore in the other arm.
U.S. Pat. No. 5,302,122 discloses a dentistry implant paralleling device consisting of several identical shaped links capable of being pivotally connected for forming a chain. Furthermore, one of the links may be connected to a dentist hand piece and a link at the other end of the chain may be attached to an anchor means in the jaw. By the use it is possible to drill a hole in the jaw parallel to the anchor means. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention seeks to provide a novel and improved dental drill guide particularly useful for correct drilling holes for installment of implant fixtures, as well as other dental procedures which require accurate alignment of a series of holes. The drill guide of the present invention allows drilling holes in the mandible or maxilla, the holes being accurately spaced one from each other and correctly positioned in relation to adjacent teeth. The drill guide accurately guides the drill bit to drill a hole at the required angle in relation to the inclination of the alveolar bone. The holes are drilled parallel to each other for their entire depth.
There is thus provided in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention a drill guide having an articulated arm made up of a plurality of links pivotally connected to each other, and said links have a structure which allows rotation of said link. The drill guide also comprise a plurality of posts which are used for connecting said links to each other and also for measuring the length of bore holes.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS By way of example, embodiments of the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying figures of drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a side view of a drill guide of present invention.
FIG.1 B is a top view of a drill guide of present invention.
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a post of a drill guide of present invention.
FIG. 3A is a perspective view of a link of a drill guide of present invention.
FIG. 3B is a perspective view of a first part of a link of a drill guide of present invention. FIG. 3C is a perspective view of a second part of a link of a drill guide of present invention.
FIG. 3D is a perspective view of a first part of a link of another embodiment of drill guide of present invention. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
The drill guide of present invention has a form of an articulated arm 1 made up of a plurality of links 3 having a different length (the preferred length of the links is 12, 10, 7 mm and a minimum length is 3 mm, said link length is measured between center of openings 31 1 and 321), said links 3 are connected to each other by posts 2, thus forming the articulated arm 1 structure of drill guide of present invention. The link 3 is made up of a first part 31 and a second part 32, said parts are coupled to each other by rotating connection, which could be in form of male 312/312a and female 322 threaded/not threaded connections . Said links 3 are pivotally connected to each other by posts 2, said posts 2 have threaded section 23, and said posts 2 are screwed through threaded openings 311 and 321 of links 3. The post 2 comprise a head portion 21 (used for manual rotation of post 2) with hexagonal socket 22 (for engagement with driver tool), a threaded section 23 and a length indicator 24 with length marks 25 and which is used for measuring bore hole depth. The length indicator 24 also could be used for measuring bore hole depth in X-ray imaging.
The drill guide of present invention is used for drilling parallel holes in jawbone, wherein hole's position is determined by length of link 3 and position of said opening 321 through which the burr is led. Although illustrative embodiments have been shown and described, a wide range of modification change and substitution is contemplated in the foregoing disclosure and in some instances, some features of the embodiments may be employed without, a corresponding use of other features. Accordingly, it is appropriate that the appended claims be construed broadly and in a manner consistent with the scope of the embodiments disclosed herein.
