Description
DEVICE WITH PEDALS FOR GYM ACTIVITIES
DESCRIPTION
This patent relates to devices for gym activities and in particular concerns a new device with pedals for gym activities.
In the existing art devices for gym activities which help the user perform exercise simulating running, pedalling or other physical activities are known.
Known examples include stationary indoor bicycles, comprising a frame with saddle where the user sits as if on a normal bicycle, a handlebar for gripping by the user and a pedalling system with pedals connected via a chain to a wheel with resistance or flywheel.
The user must pedal as if on a normal bicycle, exerting effort as a result of the flywheel or other means, such as brakes, which contrast the rotation of the wheel.
Using these stationary indoor bicycles, the user strengthens or tones the muscles of the legs, while muscles of other parts of the body, such as the arms or the muscles of the trunk, are not substantially affected.
For this purpose other gym devices are known such as rowing machines or devices or machinery that specifically strengthen the muscles of other parts of the body, the abdominal muscles or muscles of the back and torso in general.
The object of this patent is a new pedalling device for gym activity which is primarily intended to make the user engage in complete and balanced physical activity involving arms, legs, and also the muscles of the torso, back and abdomen.
Another object of the present device is not to require the use of any motorized mechanism for the operation of the equipment.
Another object of the present invention is to have a minimum footprint. These and other aims, direct and complementary, are achieved by the new device for gym activities, comprising in its main parts a frame structure comprising at least one pair of uprights and a pedalling system comprising two rotating pedals mounted on a tubular structure constrained and suspended between the uprights and rotatable with respect to the uprights themselves.
The pedalling system is foreseen to be freely rotating or countered for example by means of flywheels, brakes or other devices.
The user must step up on the pedals with one foot on each pedal and, remaining in a substantially upright position, grasping the uprights with his hands or arms or grasping a crossbar positioned above the pedals without other supporting elements, pedal.
Thus the user's only support points are the pedals and grasping points for the hands on the uprights and/or crossbar.
This pedalling system is foreseen to be adjustable in height, by constraining the tubular structure to the uprights at different heights relative to the ground.
The device can comprise uprights which are telescopic and/or the upper crossbar which is adjustable in height, varying its height with respect to the ground, depending on the height of the user.
In essence, the footprint of the device, both during use and when not in use, is minimal, given that it is represented only by the pedalling system and the frame structure.
The user of the device works with the muscles and joints of the legs and arms but also with the muscles of the torso to maintain the correct position, thereby engaging in complete and balanced physical activity.
The characteristics of the new device with pedals for gym activities will be better clarified by the following description with reference to the drawings, attached by way of a non-limiting example.
Figure 1 shows a three-dimensional view of the whole of the new device (1) according to a first possible embodiment, while Figure 2 shows a front view of the new device (1) and Figure 3 shows a detailed view of the pedalling system only (2).
Figure 4 shows a front view of the new device (1) according to a further embodiment of the pedalling system (2).
This is a new device with pedals for gym activities (1).
The new device (1) comprises a pedalling system (2) with at least two pedals (21) and a supporting structure (3) for the pedalling system (2).
Said structure (3) in turn comprises at least one pair of uprights (31) preferably resting on a platform or lower support base (32).
Said uprights (31) are tubular elements, for example with a square cross- section, and are preferably telescopic, that is in turn formed by two or more segments (33, 34) sliding axially between them, being for example inserted one inside the other and relatively translating in an axial direction.
The relative position of these segments (33, 34) of each upright (31) may be able to be locked in order to adjust and lock the height of the upright (31) itself according to the height of the user.
For example, the external lower segment (33) of each upright (31) is rigidly constrained to said base (32) by means of mounting brackets or other solidly connected fastening means (311) and comprises a plurality of holes (331) for the insertion of a screw or locking pin (332), suited to be inserted in corresponding holes (341) made in the internal upper segment (34).
To facilitate the adjustment of the height of the uprights (31) on the internal segment (34) a lever (342) can be mounted and inserted into a groove (333) correspondingly made on the wall of the external segment (33) and projecting therefrom to be grasped by the user.
Therefore, to adjust the height of the uprights (31) it is sufficient to remove the locking pins (332), raise or lower the internal segment (34) acting on the lever (342) and then re-lock the segments (33, 34) by inserting the locking pin (332).
Between the uprights (31) there is at least one crossbar (35) positioned above the pedals (21), suited to be grasped by the user's hands and placed at a height, with respect to the pedalling system (2), greater than the length of the legs of the user, so that the user, standing on the pedals (21), grasps the crossbar (35) with his hands remaining in a substantially erect position without other supporting points in addition to the pedals (21) and the crossbar (35).
In the preferred embodiment, the crossbar (35) is placed at a height greater than the height of the user, who therefore remains standing on the pedals, in an upright position and with the arms upwards.
Said crossbar (35) is made up of at least one tubular element, for example with a round cross-section, and constrained to the internal upper segments (34).
Alternatively, the upper crossbar (35) can be substantially U-shaped with two vertical segments (351), each suited to be inserted axially in the internal upper segments (34) of the uprights (31).
In a first embodiment, said pedalling system (2), shown in detail in Figure 3, comprises a pair of pedals (21) mounted in a rotary way around horizontal axes on a tubular structure (22) suited to be constrained at the two opposite
ends (221) to the uprights (31) by means of bearings (222) that allow the free rotation of the tubular structure (22) around horizontal axes with respect to the uprights (31) themselves.
In the preferred embodiment, said ends (221) are constrained to the uprights (31) by means of U-shaped brackets (312) fixed on the inner sides of the uprights (31) and in which the ends (221) and relative bearings (222) are inserted.
On each of the uprights (31) there are two or more brackets (312) aligned one above the other, corresponding in position on the two uprights (31), in order to vary the height of the pedalling system (2).
In particular, said tubular structure (22) of the pedalling system (2) comprises, between the ends (221), a pair of U-shaped segments (223) on which the pedals (21) and a central joining segment (224) are mounted in a rotary manner.
Said pedalling system (2) can be supported by additional means or support uprights (225), such as the one shown in Figure 2, resting on the base (32) and constrained to the central segment (224) of the tubular structure (22) of the pedalling system (2) by means of a joint with bearings (226) to allow rotation.
The relative rotation of said pedals (21) and the relative rotation of the tubular structure (22) is preferably free.
Alternatively it is possible that the pedalling system includes brakes or flywheels suited to increase the resistance of rotation.
For example, in Figure 4, said structure (22) of the pedalling system (2) comprises a flywheel (4) with a horizontal axis constrained by means of a pin (41) for example to an upright (31), and where said structure (22) of the pedalling system is connected to the flywheel by motion transmission
means, such as at least one wheel (42) and chain (43), with at least one free wheel mechanism.
The user, shown in Figure 1, rests his feet on said pedals (21) and grasps the uprights (31) and/or the crossbar (35) with his hands. For this purpose, the uprights (31) and/or the crossbar (35) comprise soft and/or antislip elements or handles suited to be grasped.
Therefore, with reference to the preceding description and the attached drawings, the following claims are made.
