Description
Sterile packed humid tissues for treating skin irritations such as diaper rash Field of the invention
The present invention relates to a sterile moist tissue for being applied to affected skin in order to treat skin irritations such as diaper rash and hence a product for treating such skin irritations.
Background of the invention
Different forms of skin irritations are common place. This includes diaper rash experienced by infants and irritations caused by incontinence experienced by senior citizens among others. Diaper rash ranges from mild outbreaks with few red bumps or a mildly affected area, while still uncomfortable to the child, to more severe forms compromising large affected areas with for instance bleeding sores, causing severe pain and discomfort to the infant.
These problems have been addressed in a number of different ways including powders, ointments, creams, and lotions which are applied to the individuals' bottom, where after diapering takes place. However, all such products traditionally used to treat diaper rash or the like, contain a number of different substances potentially exposing the infant or the affected citizen to various allergens or compounds not necessary in order to treat the aforementioned irritation. Furthermore it is well known that allergy and allergic reaction has become an increasing problem among children and citizens in general, making the need for lowering the exposure to allergens extremely relevant. Moreover, the topical application of the ointments etc. results in residual ointment or lotion being deposited on the caregiver's fingers. Perfectly, this should immediately be washed away, that is, the caregiver should wash his/her hands. In reality this is not always possible, either because the child or individual cannot be left alone while washing one's hands or because a sink is not readily available. This means that the ointments or creams cannot be washed from the hands after every application, and can hence be transferred to clothing or plastic or glassware used for the preparation of food. Ultimately, the child or individual carries the risk of ingesting the ointment or cream. That is, the caregiver and the
child is further exposed to allergens. Furthermore, the use of some products directed against diaper rash actually prevents the irritation from healing as fast as possible due to the coverage of the rash with hydrophobic substances which is not optimally facilitating the growth of new cells of the epidermis.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a method for treating skin irritations which overcome the above-mentioned disadvantages of the prior art.
Summary of the invention
The present invention relates to a product for treating skin irritations such as diaper rash among infants or skin irritations caused by i.e. incontinence among senior citizens or others, said product comprising the steps of:
a. Unpacking and covering the irritated skin with a sterile packed tissue, which is moisturized by means of sterile water or sterile non allergenic solutions b. Retaining said tissue in contact with the skin and subsequently mounting a diaper.
The invention has a clear advantage over already existing technologies, since it is desirable to provide a readily usable method which effectively could treat skin irritations such as diaper rash without applying any allergens to the affected individual. On the same time the present invention facilitates the optimal healing process of the affected skin, which means that the healing process takes place in a moist environment. Furthermore, this present invention, withholding the solution, is easy to use and handle, in the daily environment of the user and the caretakers being either parents or professionals.
In an embodiment of the invention the product for treating skin irritations such as diaper rash, uses a tissue of any material that do not disturb the irritated skin area such as wool, silk, cellulose, cotton, viscose, acrylics, milk proteins, and fibers from wood. The choice of material for the tissues can in principle relate to many different materials as long as it is non allergenic, non hazardous, and does not disturb the
irritated skin area and can be kept moist and packed in a sterile, single form, which allows easy handling, when treating the affected skin area.
In another embodiment of the invention the tissue can be moisturized by means of a sterile NaCl solution such as isotonic NaCl or by means of any sterile aqueous solution which is non allergenic or non hazardous. This could also be a mild sterile mild aquatic gel, as long as it is non allergenic and non hazardous. Since it is well known that the healing process of the epidermis is facilitated in a moisturized sterile environment, it is important to provide such an environment, which principally could be accomplished in several different ways apart from sterile water, some of them being mentioned above.
In yet another embodiment of the invention the product relates to the aforementioned tissue, wherein the width of the tissue is in the range from 1-15 cm and the length of the tissue is in the range from 1-20 cm. This means that the tissue is suitable for treating both small irritated skin areas and large irritated skin areas. Size wise it is important that the tissue can cover the affected area, which also leads to the fact that other sizes can be relevant in order to solve the problem. However, if the affected skin area is larger than the aforementioned sizes, it will be possible to use more than one tissue in order to cover the whole area of the affected irritated skin a, i.e. the diaper rash area.
In yet another embodiment of the invention the product relates to said tissue being of various forms such as a circle or as a polygon, as it in some cases might be an advantage to be able to provide a tissue which more exactly covers the irritated skin area, in order to facilitate the comfort of the affected individual.
Moreover, in an embodiment of the invention, said product relates to the aforementioned tissue which can consist of a bottom layer, which is moist and a top layer which is coated in order to keep said tissue moist for longer periods. In some instances this might be an advantage, especially if it is assumed that the period before next diapering, or shift of said tissue, will be prolonged.
Furthermore, the present invention also relates to a tissue which is intended for treating skin irritations such as diaper rash, which tissue is sterile packed and moisturized by means of a sterile water compound. Said tissue could effectively treat skin irritations such as diaper rash without applying any allergens to the affected individual. On the same time the present invention facilitates the optimal healing process of the affected skin, which means that the healing process takes place in a moist environment. In an embodiment of the invention said tissue is of any material that does not disturb the irritated skin area such as wool, silk, cellulose, cotton, viscose, acrylics, milk proteins, and fibers from wood. The choice of material for the tissues can in principle relate to many different materials as long as it is non allergenic, non hazardous and does not disturb the irritated skin area and can be kept moist and packed in a sterile, single form, which allows easy handling when treating the affected skin area.
In another embodiment of the invention the sterile water compound may comprise a sterile mild NaCl solution such as isotonic NaCl or any sterile aqueous solution which is non allergenic or non hazardous. The sterile water compound may according to an embodiment also be bound by a mild sterile aquatic gel, as long as it is non allergenic and non hazardous. Since it is well known that the healing process of the epidermis is facilitated in a moisturized sterile environment, it is important to provide such an environment, which principally could be accomplished in several different ways apart from sterile water, some of them being mentioned above.
In yet another embodiment of the invention the tissue, can be of sizes wherein the width of the tissue is in the range from 1-15 cm and the length of the tissue is in the range from 1-20 cm. This means that the tissue is suitable for treating both small irritated skin areas and large irritated skin areas. Size wise it is important that the tissue can cover the affected area, which also leads to the fact that other sizes can be relevant in order to solve the problem. However, if the affected skin area is larger
than the aforementioned sizes it will be possible to use more than one tissue in order to cover the whole area of the affected irritated skin, i.e. the diaper rash area.
In another embodiment of the tissue can be of various forms such as a circle or as a polygon, as it in some cases might be an advantage to be able to provide a tissue which more exactly covers the irritated skin area, in order to facilitate the comfort of the affected individual.
Moreover, in an embodiment of the invention, the tissue can consist of a bottom layer, which is moist and a top layer which is coated in order to keep said tissue moist for longer periods. In some instances this might be an advantage, especially if it is assumed that the period before next diapering, or shift of said tissue, will be prolonged.
