Abstract

A portable stove (1) has a ground-engaging base (17) of thermally insulating material engaging the bottom a gas canister (12). The gas canister (12) is connected by a gas supply conduit (5) to a gas burner (3) which is surrounded by a bowl shaped windshield (7). The windshield positively engages and supports the lower part of a receptacle (2), thus forming a chamber in which the burner (3) is located to minimise the loss of heat. The base (17) can be removed from the gas canister (12) and engaged with the bottom of the receptacle when the contents of the receptacle have been heated to minimise the loss of heat through the bottom wall (23) of the receptacle.
