As a result, the dispenser's operation is optimized for a particular rolled product or suite of rolled products. If a different rolled product, for example a rolled product of a different product manufacturer, is inserted into the dispenser, the dispenser may not function properly. For example, the product may become jammed in the dispenser or the cutter blade in the dispenser will not properly cut the product being dispensed.

This provides for more stability for the roll contacting members 46 to securely hold the roll cap in a roll of web material.
  • the roll cap 14 may be prepared from a wide variety of material including plastic materials, metal materials, cardboard and the like, provided that the material is durable enough to support the roll of the web material while on the support. Since the roll cap 14 is desirably not removable form a core when the roll material is depleted, it is generally preferred, that the roll cap be prepared from a material that is recyclable or is biodegradable. Suitable biodegradable plastics include, for example polymer derived from plant based materials, such as polylactic acid. However, other suitable plastics maybe used that are not biodegradable.
  • the roll cap 14 of the present invention is typically inserted into a rolled product that is to be dispensed from a dispenser.
  • a rolled product 60 shown is a rolled product 60.
  • the rolled product 60 contains a web material 66 which is rolled into a roll 61 .

  • the core will generally have a tubular cylindrical shape, as is shown in FIG 8.
  • the core 62 when used, may be prepared from various materials, including, for example, plastic, cardboard, or any other suitable material which is rigid enough to have the web material 66 wound thereon.
  • the core should be prepared from a material which is recyclable or biodegradable.
  • Suitable biodegradable plastics include, for example, polymers from plant based materials, such as polylactic acid.
  • the web material 66 may be wound without a core. In the present invention, it is not critical whether a core is used to wind the web material.

  • the roll cap 14 By having the roll cap 14 in one of the ends 71 , 72 of the rolled product 60, the rolled product may be inserted into a dispenser containing a support of the present invention such that the user or maintainer of the dispenser knows that the proper web material is being dispensed from the dispenser.
  • the web material 66 may be a wide variety of materials that are typically dispensed from a roll.
  • the web material may be paper, for paper towels, toilet tissue or facial tissue, nonwoven materials such as those used in wipers and the like and any other similar materials.
  • the web material will be paper materials used for paper towels or toilet tissue.
  • the roll holder 12 of the present invention may be used in a sheet dispenser 1 10.

  • a sheet dispenser will have a back panel 1 16, a first side 1 12, a second side, a cover (not shown).
  • the cover is the portion of the dispenser which is typically visible to a user when the user approaches the dispenser 1 10 to obtain a sheet of the web material.

  • the roll cap and roll holder could be color coordinated. For example, roll cap 141 could be red and the corresponding roll holder would also be red.
  • Roll cap 142 could be green and the corresponding roll holder would also be green. That way a maintainer of the dispensers using the system would be able to quickly identify which roll cap was intended to be installed in the dispenser.
  • the system could be used in different types of dispensers or the same type of dispenser.
  • the roll caps could be placed in different types of web material or the same type of web material.
  • the roll caps and the roll holder of the present invention provide a way to ensure that rolls of material not intended to be dispensed from the dispenser cannot be effectively loaded into the dispenser.
  • an adapter 200 in another embodiment of the present invention, provided is an adapter 200, as is shown in FIGS 1 1 and 12.
  • the engagement barrier 28 serves to limit the roll holder's 12 ability to accept a roll of web material without a particular roll cap for that particular roll holder 12.
  • the adapter 200 is for converting a roll holder 12 having an engagement barrier 28 to accept standard rolls of web material without specific roll cap or to a different roll cap.
  • a roll holder 12 with the adapter attached as is shown in FIG 13, will accept a standard roll of web material, with a standard sized core.
  • the core size may vary from one manufacture to another. By standard sized core, it is intended to mean those cores typically used to roll a web material. Alternatively, the roll may be coreless, meaning that no core is used.
  • the adapter of the present invention may be sized to accept coreless rolls as well.
  • the adapter 200 has a first end 202 and an opposite second end 204.
  • the second end 204 is adapted to be adjacent the roll holder 12 having an engagement barrier 28, such that the adapter 200 at least partially covers an engagement barrier 28 on a roll holder 12.
  • By “at least partially covers” it is intended that the second end 204 of the adapter 200 obscures from view a portion of the engagement barrier 28, as is shown in FIG 13. It is noted that covering the entire engagement barrier 28 is also contemplated to be within the scope of the present invention.
  • the first end 202 and the second end 204 are joined to one another by a connecting surface, such that the first end 202 is offset from the second end 204 such that the first end 202 is extended away from the roll holder 12. To hold the adapter 200 in place on the roll holder 12, a connection means is used.
  • the adapter is shown to be a cylindrical structure. It is also shown that the adapter has a cap-like structure, where the interior 208 of the adapter is hollow. Alternatively, the interior 208 could have the shape of the engagement barrier or the roll holder the adapter 200 is going to be engaging. It is pointed out that the adapter 200 can have other shapes such that the connecting surface 206 may have a smaller or larger diameter than the second end. Generally, the connecting surface 206 of the adapter 200 will have a cylindrical surface, as is shown in FIGS 1 1 and 12. Alternatively, the connecting surface could have a conical shape (not shown).
  • connection means may be an adhesive, a friction fit, an engagement member extending from the adapter or a connecting member recessed into the adapter.
  • the engagement members 210 extend out from the second end of the adapter 200.
  • the engagement members 210 are sized and shaped to fit into a complementary member 212 which is present on the roll holder 12, as is shown in FIGS 12 and 14.
  • the complementary member 212 is sized and shaped to accept and retain the engagement members 210, when the engagement members 210 are brought into contact with the complementary member 212.
  • the complementary member 212 is a slot which is thru the roll holder.
  • the engagement members are legs with a protrusion 214.
  • the protrusion 214 serves to lock the engagement member 210 into the complementary member 212. Any structure or method that will allow the adapter 200 to remain engaged with the roll holder 12 when a roll of web material is loaded into the dispenser and onto the adapter 200 engaged with the roll holder 12 may be used in the present invention, provided the adapter 200 will remain engaged with the roll holder under the weight of the roll of web material.
  • the engagement member 210 may be a single member, or multiply members. As shown in FIG 1 1 , there are two engagement members 210.
  • An additional optional feature that may be present on the roll holder 12 is a groove or channel 216 that will allow the second end 204 of the adapter 200 to rest against or into the engagement barrier 28.
  • the groove or channel 216 can also serve to stabilize the adapter 200 when the adapter 200 engages the roll holder 12.

Abstract

L'invention porte sur un système de support de rouleau pour un distributeur de matériau en bande enroulé qui assure que le matériau en bande enroulé approprié est installé dans le distributeur et que le matériau en bande enroulé est aligné de manière appropriée dans le distributeur. Le système limite la dimension du mandrin ou du bouchon de mandrin qui peut être supporté par le support dans un distributeur de serviettes. L'invention porte également sur un système pour fournir différents capuchons et supports de rouleau dimensionnés pour assurer que le distributeur distribue un matériau en bande que le distributeur est conçu pour distribuer.
