Abstract
A process for preparing an alkylsilane compound comprising: dimerizing one or more alpha olefins to produce one or more vinylidenes; and contacting the vinylidene with a silane compound having a silicon-hydrogen bond to form an alkylsilane is disclosed. An alkylsilane compound may prepared by dimerizing one or more alpha olefins to produce one or more vinylidenes; and contacting the vinylidene with a silane compound having a silicon-hydrogen bond to form an alkylsilane. A method of coating materials comprising contacting the material with an alkylsilane wherein the alkylsilane was formed by dimerizing one or more even numbered alpha olefins to produce one or more vinylidenes; and the vinylidene was contacted with a silane compound having a silicon-hydrogen bond to form the alkylsilane is also described.
