Abstract

The invention relates to the field of electrical engineering, more specifically to designs for overhead ground wires made by twisting steel wires with an embedded optical cable, and can be used for suspension on overhead power lines to protect against direct lightning strikes and to provide optical communication via the cables embedded in the overhead ground wire. The overhead ground wire with an optical communication cable comprises: a central tube containing optical fibres and a water-repellent filler. The tube is made from a heat-shielding and high-tensile composite material (carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic). The first layer is made up of seven wires; the second layer is made up of two alternating sets of seven steel wires; and the third layer consists of fourteen steel wires. The first, second and third layers are made of wires of different diameters with the same lay length and direction and with linear contact between the wires of the first, second and third layers, which are plastically deformed; the degree of reduction over the area of the cross-section of the ground wire is 2-4%; the area of contact between the wires in the layers is increased, and the ground wire as a whole is rendered more compact. The invention increases the resistance of the ground wire to lightning strikes, vibration and the effect of short-circuit currents and breaking load after short-circuit current testing, while enabling the optical communication cable to remain functional throughout a long service life in an overhead power line.
