- the optical transceiver may receive data packets from the wave division multiplexer 124 and may convert into digital data packets.

- the system disclosed according to one or more embodiment of the present invention is capable of providing various services such as but not limited to TV signals, voice communication, data communication, IP video, CATV services etc. over the same Passive Optical Network (PON) to multiple dwellings within a radius of at least, but not limited to 20 km wherein each dwelling may support multiple independent STBs using standard off the shelf products for CATV and DBS/DTH.

Abstract
L'invention concerne un système de transmission permettant de fournir simultanément des services utilisant le protocole IP et/ou des services n'utilisant pas le protocole IP à une pluralité de nœuds récepteurs par un réseau optique passif unique. Le système de transmission comprend un terminal de ligne optique (OLT), connecté à une ou à plusieurs passerelles en vue de recevoir des signaux numériques d'un ou de plusieurs services utilisant ou non le protocole IP, ledit terminal de ligne optique convertissant les signaux numériques reçus en signaux optiques. Le système de transmission comprend de plus un ou plusieurs diviseurs destinés à recevoir les signaux optiques provenant du terminal de ligne optique, les signaux provenant dudit terminal étant reçus par le diviseur par un câble à fibre optique unique et une ou plusieurs unités de réseau optique (ONU), qui se situent au niveau des nœuds récepteurs respectifs pour permettre de recevoir les signaux optiques provenant du diviseur. L'unité de réseau optique convertit le signal optique reçu en signaux numériques, et transmet les signaux numériques aux nœuds récepteurs en vue de fournir un ou plusieurs services utilisant ou non le protocole IP.
