货物运输过程中, 每经过一个中间站均有工作人员将该电子铅封内的信息扫描入 档。 如果某个环节货物被盗, 此时锁绳 4必定已被剪断, 断开射频天线 3的回路, 从而 导致电子箱封的失效, 此时再扫描该电子箱封, 已经读不出信息, 这样工作人员就会及 时得知所锁定的货物失盗了, 方便确定失窃地段并及时査找货物。
该电子铅封还可以使用在箱包等物品上。
