Abstract
Patent is the type of diving and swimming equipment, can be used by people fond of swimming. Quadrofin paddle (fig.l) consists of a cheek 1 with proper paddle 2 attached perpendicular to it, with an ability to rotate about axis 3 and the detent of the paddle 4. The cheek is made of hard material because it will take the load from the paddle during the stroke. The inner side of the cheek is made of soft material (e.g. neoprene or foam plastic). The quadrofin paddle is attached perpendicular to the cheek, the size and form depends on swimming mode. The paddle can be made of different materials - rubber or plastic, or combination. The paddle has an edge rigidity 5 along the axis of its rotation for the cross bending prevention. The paddle detent is also fastened to the cheek and determines the angle of attack of the paddle during the stroke. The detent is removable for different swimming modes or mechanically adjusted, to change the angle of attack of the paddle directly during the stroke. Two identical paddles are fastened to the front and back shin, gastrocnemius and shinbone with shin muscle is embraced by the cheeks, fixation is better due to big contact area. The paddles are fastened symmetrically for the steady load distribution during the stroke and to avoid turning of the paddle round the axis of shin.
Description
Quadrofin
Description
This type of invention refers to the diving equipment, can be also used by people fond of swimming.
There are several types of swimming equipment called fins. These are common flippers and monofin, they are fastened to the swimmer's feet and have the main active paddle, which is the continuation of the feet. T e paddle moves in the surface perpendicular to the surface of swimmer's body.
The main disadvantages of these two types of fins:
- idle swing of the swimmer's body due to the movement of two legs in the surface simultaneously (monofin) or by turns (flippers);
- impossibility to use the breaststroke or others of this type;
- uncomfortable swimming on water surface caused by the idle swing of the body and periodic immersion of swimmer's face in water;
- uncomfortable (flippers) and impossible (monofin) walking on solid surface.
The closest counterpart - «Fin for breaststroke way» (patent RU 2108830, A63B31/08), the fin has a galosh and adjacent paddle. The paddle is in sagittal plane and consists of several parts: plantar, front and back shin.
The disadvantages of this type of fin:
- functional is only the leg movement;
- the fin requires highly skilled breaststroke swimming technique;
- this type of fin doesn't let person walk on the solid surface and push off the obstacle.
The invention offered simplifies the swimming technique, avoid idle, by certain swimming technique will give an opportunity to use both phases of leg movement, and possibility to walk on solid surface. It has extra function: the possibility to adjust the angle of attack of the paddle during the stroke, it will be also possible to change the paddles for certain conditions.
Technological result is achieved due to the unusual structure of quadrofin: two paddles attached by cheeks to front and back shin athwart to shin axis, symmetrically to these axis.
Each paddle rotates about axis of fixation, perpendicular to the shin axis at an angle fixed by a detent, which makes the angle of attack during the stroke and provides lengthway movement. This paddle arrangement makes possible the reversed phase strokes, which avoid idle swing of the body. Quadrofin is attached to swimmer's shin and it is possible to walk on the solid surface and push off the obstacle in order to reach water or go out.
On the invention draft you can see:
- figure 1 - one of various possible types of quadrofin paddle
- figure 2 - fixation of quadrofin to the leg
- figure 3 - optimal swimming technique using quadrofins
Two identical paddles are fastened to the front and back shin (fig 2), gastrocnemius and shinbone with shin muscle is embraced by the cheeks, fixation is better due to big contact area. The paddles are fastened symmetrically for the steady load distribution during the stroke and to avoid turning of the paddle round the axis of shin.
It is possible to use the breaststroke because quadrofin gives sizeable attack area during the stroke.
The most optimal quadrofin use (fig 3): straighten body and legs making rhythmic narrow movements: join and disjoin legs in swimmer's body surface. The angle of disjoin depends on angle of attack chosen by detent 5, but doesn't exceed 30 degrees not to produce strong braking effect.
Hands can be straighten forward, backward or make rhythmic breaststrokes synchronically with legs.
This invention consists of several elements, but all of them have simple forms and can be made by means of casting, vacuum molding of rubber or plastic. Weight and technical characteristics depend on materials chosen.
