Abstract

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung zur Erfassung eines seitlichen Umfeldes eines Fahrzeuges (1), wobei mittels zumindest einer an jeweils einer Fahrzeugseite (1.1, 1.2) angeordneten Bilderfassungseinheit (B1, B2) fortlaufend Bilddaten erfasst und auf einer der jeweiligen Bilderfassungseinheit (B1, B2) zugeordneten Anzeigeeinheit (A1, A2) ausgegeben werden. Erfindungsgemäß wird mittels der erfassten Bilddaten ein seitlicher Abstand des Fahrzeuges (1) zu wenigstens einem seitlich zu dem Fahrzeug (1) befindlichen Objekt ermittelt und bei Unterschreitung eines ersten Grenzwertes des seitlichen Abstandes wird auf der Anzeigeeinheit (A1, A2) eine Abstandsinformation (I) angezeigt.
