Abstract
One embodiment of the present invention relates to a context modeling method and context modeling apparatus, and to an image encoding/decoding method and image encoding/decoding apparatus using the same. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the context modeling method and the context modeling apparatus, and the image encoding/decoding method and the image encoding/decoding apparatus using the same, comprise: a context generation unit which determines the context of a peripheral block using the correlation between the motion vector of a block neighboring the peripheral block of the current block and the motion vector of the peripheral block; and a context selection unit which selects the context of the current block corresponding to the context of the peripheral block. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the context of a motion vector is generated based on the correlation with the motion vector of the peripheral block, and candidate motion vectors are adaptively provided in accordance with the condition of the peripheral block so as to efficiently encode the motion vector of the current block, thereby significantly improving the encoding performance of the motion vector of the current block, thus improving the encoding performance of a video compression apparatus or the quality of restored image.
