Description

A TELEVISION COMPRISING A SOUND PROJECTOR
The present invention relates to a television comprising an integrated sound projector.
Use of sound projectors occupying less space and integrated into the television in order to enhance the sound received from the television becomes widespread. A large number of speakers are disposed on the sound projector and the said speakers send sound beams to different points in the room wherein the television is placed. The sound beams projected by the speakers reverberate from the walls of the room wherein the television is placed and surround sound reaches to the user that creates a home-cinema effect. The biggest problem in sound projectors arises when the device cannot be positioned accurately in the room. Moreover, the furniture in the room obstructs the sound beams and sound in desired quality cannot be delivered to the user. When the television is repositioned in the room wherein it is placed or when the television is moved to another room, the sound settings of the sound projector need to be re-adjusted, and in the case the sound settings are not re-adjusted desired sound performance cannot be achieved.
In the state of the art United States Patent Application No. US2010/042925, an integrated sound projector system used in televisions is explained. The graphic simulation of the course the sound beams projected by the sound projector follow is displayed by means of a user interface on the screen.
The aim of the present invention is the realization of a television comprising an integrated sound projector and wherein the setting parameters of the sound projector thereof can be easily changed.
The television realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof comprises an integrated sound projector and a camera that takes the images of the environment wherein the television is placed and delivers them to the control unit. The images of the room taken by the camera are recorded in the memory and up-to-date images of the room taken by the camera every time the television is started up are transmitted to the control unit to be evaluated. The control unit compares the images taken by the camera with the images recorded in the memory, and when the control unit detects any obvious difference between the images, it decides that the position of the television in the room or the room wherein the television is placed is changed and warns the user to renew the settings of the sound projector.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the control unit provides the user to be warned to renew the setting parameters of the sound projector by means of the sound setting menu displayed on the screen or of any audio or light warning.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the camera provides the inner volume of the room wherein the television is placed to be scanned with a wide angle by being rotated over the casing 180 degrees or 360 degrees by means of a movement mechanism.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the television comprises a light source with LEDs disposed thereon, connected to the camera, rotating together with the camera and that provides a clean image to be taken by illuminating the area of the room that the camera will take the image of.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the television comprises a microphone disposed at the television watching distance of the user, receiving the sound beams projected by the speakers and providing the sound projector settings to be adjusted by means of the sound settings menu displayed on the screen by feed-backing the sound beams to the television and the control unit warns the user to adjust the sound settings by using the microphone when it detects that the sound projector requires to be adjusted upon comparing the up-to-date images taken by the camera with the images recorded in the memory.
In another embodiment of the present invention, sound setting parameters set up according to various possible environments the television can be placed are recorded in the memory, the control unit recommends the sound setting parameters most suitable to the images recorded in the memory and the up-to-date images to the user or automatically adjusts the sound projector by itself when it detects that the sound projector requires to be adjusted upon comparing the up-to-date images taken by the camera with the images recorded in the memory.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the control unit makes a comparison by evaluating main lines such as side walls – ceiling – floor junctures in the room in the images taken by the camera and recorded in the memory and does not take furniture or smaller objects into consideration in the images compared. Thus, the user is warned to renew the sound projector settings only when the position of the television is definitely changed.
By means of the embodiment of the present invention, the user is warned to renew the sound projector settings when the position of the television in the room or the room wherein the television is placed is changed, thus high sound performance is obtained from the sound projector in any environment the television is placed.

The television (1) comprises a casing (2), a screen (3), a sound projector (5) having more than one speaker (4) arranged thereon in an array, operable for creating surround sound in a room (R), projecting sound beams in different angles to the aimed areas in the room (R) and a control unit (8) having a memory (7) wherein the setting parameters of the sound projector (5) are recorded.
The television (1) of the present invention comprises
- a camera (9) integrated onto the casing (2) and that takes the images of the room (R) wherein the television (1) is placed,
- the memory (7) wherein the images of the room (R) taken by the camera (9) are recorded and
- the control unit (8) that, during the operation of the television (1), compares the up-to-date room (R) images taken by the camera (9) with the room (R) images prerecorded in the memory (7) and decides that the room (R) wherein the television (1) is placed or the position thereof in the room (R) is changed upon detecting any difference between the images and that provides the user to be warned to renew the setting parameters of the sound projector (5) by means of the sound setting menu (M) displayed on the screen (3) or of any audio or light warning.
During the first set-up of the television (1) of the present invention, the sound projector (5) settings are adjusted and at the same time the camera (9) is activated and images of the room (R) wherein the television (1) is placed is taken by the camera (9) and recorded in the memory (7). The control unit (8) matches the images recorded in the memory (7) and the setting parameters of the sound projector (5). The control unit (8) compares the images taken by the camera (9) with the images recorded in the memory (7) by activating the camera (9) at determined intervals. The control unit (8) provides the user to be warned to renew the sound projector (5) settings upon detecting any obvious difference between the up-to-date images taken by the camera (9) and the images recorded in the memory (7) in the control performed after the position of the television (1) in the room (R) or the room (R) wherein the television (1) is placed. When the sound projector (5) settings are renewed according to the new position of the television (1), images related to the new position are recorded in the memory (7). At the following sound settings – position changes, the last recorded room (R) image is taken as reference.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the control unit (8) automatically activates the camera (9) every time when the television (1) is brought to the run mode from the stand-by mode and decides whether there is a change in the position of the television (1) by comparing the room (R) images taken from the camera (9) with the room (R) images recorded in the memory (7).
In another embodiment of the present invention, the television (1) comprises a movement mechanism (10) that provides the inner volume of the room (R) wherein the television (1) is placed to be displayed by being scanned with a wide angle by moving the camera (9) to the right and left and/or upwards-downwards.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the movement mechanism (10) provides all the areas of the room (R) wherein the television (1) is placed facing the screen (3) and the sound projector (5) to be displayed by being scanned by rotating the camera (9) 180 degrees on the casing (2) at the side that the screen (3) and the sound projector (5) face.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the movement mechanism (10) provides the inner volume of the room (R) to be all around displayed by being scanned by rotating the camera (9) 360 degrees on the casing (2).
In another embodiment of the present invention, the television (1) comprises a light source (11) composed of preferably more than one LED connected to the camera (9), illuminating the area of the room (R) that the camera (9) will take the image of.
