Abstract

The invention relates to a starter for an internal combustion engine, provided with a starter pinion mounted in such a way that it can be moved in relation to a drive shaft, said starter pinion being connected to a pinion shaft. The starter pinion is coupled to the pinion shaft in a rotationally fixed, but axially movable manner. The starter pinion and the pinion shaft can be inserted into each other by the axially facing front sides thereof.
