Abstract

The present invention relates to a toy (10), in particular to a toy for animals, especially horses. We describe a toy comprising a primary frame (13), a housing (13) adapted for rotation about a first axis within the primary frame, the primary frame further comprising a mounting point (16). The housing includes at least one cavity (12) for receipt, in use, of an edible product such as a lick - a molasses or salt-based composition formed in a generally cylindrical shape.

TOY
The present invention relates to a toy, in particular to a toy for animals, especially horses. CD 460845 shows a toy for horses in which a "lick" is held within a ball- shaped housing. The lick is a molasses or salt - based composition formed in a generally cylindrical shape. The ball-shaped housing prevents the horse from biting into the lick or licking it excessively and provides entertainment for the horse.
The present invention seeks to develop on this product.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a toy comprising a primary frame, a housing adapted for rotation about a first axis within the primary frame, the primary frame further comprising a mounting point.
Preferably, the housing includes at least one cavity for receipt, in use, of an edible product.
Advantageously, at least one supplementary frame is provided intermediate the housing and the primary frame arranged such that the housing is pivotable or rotatable with respect to its immediately adjacent frame and each frame is pivotable or rotatable with respect to its immediately adjacent frame.
The above and other aspects of the present invention will now be described in further detail, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying figures in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of a toy in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the primary frame of the embodiment of Figure 1 ; and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the housing of the embodiment of Figure 1.
The figures show a toy 10 comprising a housing 1 1 having a cavity 12 for receipt, in use, of a molasses, salt or other edible product such as a lick (not shown) Accordingly, cavity 12 is shaped and dimensioned to fit the shape and size of the intended product. Suitably, the housing has a cavity on two faces. Housing 1 1 is mounted within a frame 13. Housing 1 1 includes a pivot pin 14 on two opposite sides which cooperate with corresponding pivot mounts 15 formed in frame 13. Accordingly, housing 1 1 is able to rotate or rock within frame 13. In the embodiment shown, the housing is arranged to rotate about an operatively horizontal axis. In alternative embodiments (not shown) the axis is vertical or inclined between vertical and horizontal.
The frame 13 further includes a mounting point 16 to provide a fixing point for the apparatus. In the embodiment shown, the mounting point is shown in Figure 1 as a loop to allow suspension of the apparatus from a convenient point, such as a structural element of a stable. If suspended in this way, the apparatus thus allows the housing 1 1 to be rotatable about two axes. Alternative suspension arrangements are possible.
In alternative embodiments (not shown) one or more supplementary frames are provided between the housing 1 1 and an outermost frame to provide a yet further axis or axes of rotation to the housing, in the manner of gimbal. In the embodiment shown, housing 1 1 includes a plurality of checks 17 arranged to cooperate with legs provided on the container of a conventional lick to retain the lick within housing 1 1.

Claims

1. A toy comprising a housing adapted for rotation about a first axis within a primary frame, the primary frame further comprising a mounting point.
2. A toy as claimed in claim 1 wherein the housing includes at least one cavity for receipt, in use, of an edible product.
3. A toy as claimed in claim 2 comprising two cavities arranged on opposite faces of the housing.
4. A toy as claimed in claim 1 , claim 2 or claim 3 wherein at least one supplementary frame is provide intermediate the housing and the primary frame arranged such that the housing is pivotable or rotatable with respect to its immediately adjacent frame and each frame is pivotable or rotatable with respect to its immediately adjacent frame.
